ALZHEIMERS NEWS-HE LEFT HIS HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO BUT LOST HIS BRAIN TO ALZHEIMERS

last night we watched the 60 minutes segment on tony bennett and his battle with alzheimers disease
he is 95 and is no longer singing publicly anymore
he recently did one final show with lady gaga honoring him one final time

the family and his doctors decided it was time to stop

ok so i teared up multiple times watching the show

it was interesting to see an obviously cognitively impaired tony bennett with his dementia shuffling and dementia staring and lack of communication skills
suddenly
get transformed in front of our eyes
into this different person
its like a switch in the brain got turned on

he can sing his songs without assistance
his brain seemed to be working closer to normal

then
when its all over he converts back to his dementia persona

music turns on that switch in the brain
its been seen multiple times before

one video i recall and i blogged about was the elderly noncommunicative man in a long term care facility that when someone put earphones on him and turned on jazz music on an ipad
he became animated and alive

music activates so many different areas of the brain
it sort of jump starts the brain to working while the music plays

if you are in the alzheimers world i suggest you stop and watch the segment below on tony bennett
i found it fascinating and sad but happy segment

video link here if not showing on your iphone
so
try playing your loved ones with dementia their favorite music for them to enjoy
you may get rewarded with an increase in alertness
that will be good for your heart and soul
and
will give them a few minutes of happiness
in
that
tomb of dementia their brain is locked in

in my wishes when we did our will i asked that they play frequently my favorite music like country western or classical music or 60s and 70s music or willie nelson music or beatles music

hopefully it will open my brain back up some so i can enjoy life for a few minutes each day

i have set up my team for the walk to end alzheimers in santa barbara named
organicgreendoctor at this link

because of the pandemic we will not be walking at the walk site but will walk a route up to the santa barbara mission by ourselves wearing our alzheimers walk shirts and carrying our alzheimers flags

we will be thinking of our lived ones who had alzheimers
mom nell
brother joe
probably dad charles
and
me

i seem to be the lucky one to have gotten a temporary reprieve

please feel free to donate to our team to help raise funds to fight this awful disease
