covid 19-the new variant taking over is xbb.1.5

COVID 19-THE NEW VARIANT TAKING OVER IS XBB.1.5

its seems the original wildtype covid virus has evolved over the last 3 years from one that killed a lot of people and made a a lot of folks real sick
to now one that is highly contagious but mainly doesnt kill its hosts ie us
the newest one is called xbb.1.5

it is a progeny of the original wildtype which begat alpha which begat beta which begat delta which begat omicorn which begat all those b viruses to now the xbb.1.55

that new one they say will be the one that will get you if you havent gotten it yet

it will also get all of us probably
again

lucky those of us who have gotten all our shots and may have gotten the infection have the best immunity against this virus

i read this usa today article about the xbb.1.5 linked here

everyone is at risk to catch it
its crazy infectious
lucky the rate of severe infections and deaths are low

you can get sick 2-14 days after exposure
it may take 10 days or longer to be non contagious again

getting covid puts you at risk for getting long covid

the covid 19 virus is the most successful virus in all of human history
basically its goal now is to infect as many people as possible without killing off the human host
this allows it to survive
yes it can reinfect you again and probably again

what to do
sorry
the recommendations havent changed

get all your covid vaxxines
wear your mask in high risk situations
avoid crowded indoor spaces
if you are high risk and you get covid seek out a prescription for paxlovid
it can keep you from getting hospitalized and from dying from covid

you get a prescription from your doctor
there is no cost for the medicine as  the government pays for it
eg we called our doctor and answered a list of questions and it was called in to our pharmacy
i started covid almost immediately after testing positive and was asymptomatic within 24 hours
yes
it leaves a worst taste ever in your mouth

it seems this virus will be with us for a long time
maybe forever

so i
wear a mask in high risk situations
avoid crowded indoor spaces
will get my last booster the bivalent one this weekend
we had to wait to get it since we had covid last fall

thats as much as i can do
if i catch it ill do paxlovid again

those who are vulnerable will be affected the most
the elderly
immunosuppressed folks
folks with certain diseases like obesity diabetes heart disease kidney disease lung disease cancer etc

protect yourself
