he could easily have been talking to congress in 2014

can we just let our system work instead of not work

let congress pass or not pass it
let the president then veto it
then send it back to congress
if they really want it theyll overide the veto
thats the way our system is set up

if you read this blog you know i am an advocate of
obamacare
right now i dont see another option out there
the old one didnt work well
remember i was part of that system
i saw its failures up close
yes i personally benefited from the old system
but most of you did not

so if you dont like it then present another one
maybe
leaving out all the special interest folks this time
and
excuse me house of representative quit wasting your
time overturning the healthcare law
use that time to do something else
we get the message you dont like it

how about an option

now covered that are republicans and independents

student loan debt
we have imprisoned a generation of our young folks
in a mountain of debt with some of them having
little to show for it
shame on you and us for letting this happen
parents just look whos set up residence in your spare room

we all know at least i do a lot of folks
hard working folks that pay taxes here

good american citizens
many are better citizens than some of us are
these folks were some of my best and favorite patients

so i say do it obama
its been too long awaiting

theres more things that need to be done

now they seem to be not as friendly

well texas football
but
well its about life too

for those readers from arkansas and elsewhere
charlie strong is the new coach this year at
texas
for awhile i thought his ethics were going to get
him ran out of town
but now hes winning so i guess hell stay


if you live in arkansas and know a lot of about football
you know who sporty carpenter is
my historian brother knows him well

well so the assistant coach said as my bro made this
defensive play that sacked the quarterback
in practice
so sporty didnt know my historian brother
as we had recently moved to this small town in arkansas
called magnolia
so sporty says where did you come from
meaning
what position did you play on defensive

my historian brother thinking he meant what school
did you move from
said
smackover
so all the way through high school thats what he was
called
smackover
even at his reunions 50 years later he is still called
smackover

sporty a well respected high school coach
and
later
the coach at henderson state college in arkansas
was sitting in the office talking with his defensive
ccoordinator
when the phone rang

when he hung up he said charlie you want to go to
florida to be the defensive coordinator there
so off he went the first time out of arkansas
eventually coaching the defense on the florida
national championship teams-tim tebo era


this man from arkansas
who played and lettered 4 years at batesville high school
who played football at central arkansas
best known for producing scotty pippin
was helped by his mentor
sporty carpenter

eventually the search committee from texas came acalling
we want you to come in and fix our program
this arkansas guy ending up in texas
sorry but in arkansas thats a bad thing to do
go to texas
i know i did it myself
even when i go back they look at me with a cautious eye
maybe like a traitor


but charlie came to texas
real strong he did
he cleaned house he did
follow my principles
all five + of them
or
hit the road jack

so many of them did
and
sorry
but
some of the players were good ones
some were seniors
even one was a former patient
break the rules and you are gone

so he depleted his team of 20+ players
several who were starters
hit the road jack

the other players im sure were not real sure about this
strong guy and his strong principles

there were lot of rumblings going on
hey were gettin our butts kicked
principles now can only go so far

he stuck to his principles
now
he has started to win
a bowl game is in the future
hopefully against am

so he now has a team full of players
who

go to class and sit at the front of the class
yes he spot checks them himself

cant smoke dope or use drugs
he has increased drug testing
get a positive test you get 3 chances but have to do counseling and
miss games
after number 4
hit the road jack

cant abuse their wives their girlfriends or degrade women
you have to respect them

no earrings

no guns no hes not talking about hunting so calm down
you hunters and nra folks

no stealing

well heck we want all our kids to do that
im sure all the coaches want their players to do this
but
the difference is

he enforces it!!

so
be strong
charlie strong

we need more of you in sports and in society
maybe even in politics

a true arkansan and texan
and american

i wanted this blog to be about alzheimers disease
but not all about it

so
i write on gardening political stuff things in the news
sports green living volunteering and other things that

it follows me as i travel along this journey
its slow right now but im hoping it doesnt pick up
anytime soon
it also follows new research thats going on
as i keep uptodate on it
also it follows my research studies as i progress through
them
eg my recent mri scan which i didnt pass gas in was normal
and has not changed in the last 4 years
whew

i of course i am always looking at the treatment side of
things as i want to jump in on something if it seems
promising
eg the reversal of cognitive decline article from ucla
that was written about here a couple of weeks ago
so i try to stay on top of things
and
let you know what im thinking and feeling


if i had to pick one blog on alzheimers disease to
follow it would be the
alzheimers reading room

he is a researcher who took care of his mom who had
alzheimers disease all the way through the journey
he has written a lot about that journey
helpful things always
he writes a lot about care giving
and
if something happens in the alzheimers world he has
it posted and comments on it

another blog i read that is heart wrenching at times

i do struggle to read this one sometimes
as this wife
a young wife struggles dealing with working caring for
her early onset 50 yr old husband her kids and all the stresses
she encounters as his disease marches on
not quite sure how she does it
her stress levels at time just oozes from the written words


i was reading
watching the lights go out

its about a retired doctor writer who developed memory
issues and was told he probably had alzheimers
i have followed him for about two years

during that time he has stabilized maybe improved
and
further testing reveals he may not have the disease
after all

as of now he has suspended his blog
so
sometimes things do happen in a good way

i would hope that this good ending could be
the epitaph for this blog
