shackin

SHACKIN
this weekend i attended the second annual
shack a thon at a local high school
that was sponsored by the habitat for humanity club
at the school

now ive worked with these kids several times over
the last 3 years
even calling on them at the last minute sometimes
to help with landscaping

it always a joy to work with them
all hard workers
many have done builds many times so they just
step in and start working

i especially like working with them doing the landscaping
this is a project we did
where i called on them at the last minute to help out
they just jumped in and got it done

on this particular day they had already worked at
one site doing a build
they jumped in their cars
drove 30 miles to this site
and
helped us finish the landscaping

so i looked forward to the shack a thon at their school
i recognized several of the kids
two were former patients

heres the rules for shack a thon
a school club gets a group together to build their shack
with
a role of duct tape
pallets
cardboard lots of cardboard
tyvek

then they have to sleep in it all night long

since i showed up
hey will you be a judge
luckily there were four of us

easily the best was the habitat clubs shack
the skill for the build was deemed from having
done this in past competitions
so
they asked not to be considered the winner
so as i stood watching these kids
talking to them
having worked with some of them in the past
all i could think was

we are leaving this world in good hands

also i was able to collect a load of cardboard for
future landscaping projects at our habitat builds
