ive heard it many a time
in doctor meetings
nurse conversations
facebook postings
family get togethers

those medicaid folks just need to
get a job
buy their own insurance

in the state of iowa
1 in 4 folks with alzheimers in that state end up
on medicaid
most were hardworking tax paying folks
its probably not different in other states

they may start out on a cash basis at the
long term care place
but when the money runs out
thats when medicaid kicks in
most of the patients social securityor pensions are
turned over to help pay the costs

there is some left over each month for the spouse
so she or he doesnt have to be too indigent

when the patient dies the government then looks back
and
takes over some of the patients assets

i personally dont have a problem with that
since medicaid paid for their care for weeks to
sometimes years

this happened in our family
since we have had family members in long term care
facilities for their later stages of alzheimers disease

interesting is that this system
doesnt care
what your politics is
what your race is
what your religion is
it sort of works for everyone

so if you are reading this
if you havent been affected by this financial delimma
its likely you will

so look closely
when you read and hear about those medicaid cuts
it will likely affect you eventually
the money may not be there for you or your loved ones care

think about how this will affect you
when you hear the rhetoric
dont let your politics get in the way

now i have the answer

NOW I HAVE THE ANSWER

i always wanted to know the answer
to the question
what would a penny do if you threw it
off the empire state building in new york

now
once when we were visiting new york on
vacation
i
well
sort of
did my own experiment
no
i didnt chunk a penny off the top of the
empire state building

all i could see
was some guy down below
1200+feet down there
with this penny impaled into his skull
or
worse into his brain
with
my fingerprints all over it

so
i chose instead
since i am a avid gum chewer
of peppermint gum
i chewed it real good going up the elevator
so it got all the juice out of it
i took it out of my mouth
rolled into a nice round ball
looked around
when no one was looking
i pushed it over the edge
and
watched it float downward downwards to the street

then
i waited for the sirens
wonder if ill get arrested
i thought

what it if it falls into some ladys long coiffured hair
so it would act like a trampoline like the fireman
hold up to catch you when you jump off a building

well none of that happened
as i walked out of the building
i noticed this blue circular splat on the sidewalk
i was afraid to scrape it up though
but
i was thankful it didnt cause no damage

but
i always wondered
would a penny hurt if you dropped it
that 1200+ feet off the empire state building
would it gain speed
and
be like a big boulder
crunching whatever was landed upon

well
i now know the answer

i didnt cause no harm

FARTHER ON THE OTHER SIDE

thats me looking for my prescriptions

thats what has happened to me
i have gone farther on the other side than i
use to be

no i didnt become some radical opposite viewed
person
but
i tell you with all the stuff thats going on in the us
from politics to race to football
i sometimes want to

this is about being on your side now
the patients side
now
ive complained about this before

its been a gradual change to the patient side

now
i still like to sit in the waiting room
waiting
waiting
waiting
thats why its called that
a waiting room

i do like to sit out there
though
to watch and listen to folks

sometimes
i just want to speak up
you know if you would take this for that
it would clear things up
and
you wouldnt have to sit and wait and spend money
to know what i know and will tell you for free

i also just like to watch folks
listen to the receptionists or nurses on the phone
huh
excuse me
we are sitting over here
i can hear you talking about ms smith
and
about her periods
about her depression
about her lab results
about her next appointments

privacy is a word that seems to be getting lost here

then
my oh my
try to get a prescription refill
now thats an ordeal

all i got to say is
cant anyone get your prescriptions right

yes
i have experienced this first hand
as
has my wife she

now
i know how the system works
i worked in it for years
i know how to go back through the system
to get it correct
but
my of my how do folks take care of this
who dont have my insight

i see a lot of frustration
aboiling

the doctors office says
no you call your pharmacists
they will send a request
we will then ok it
and
send it back
eventually
ok
so it may not be right
but
well at least you got some medicine
maybe
the dose will be wrong
or
the brand is ordered
or
the amount will be wrong
but
you will eventually get your medicine

so
you get your medicine
thats not the right dose
thats not the right amount
thats the brand and i use the generic

well
either we will send another request
or
you can just call back the doctor
or
worse
you will have to call back the doctor

so it starts all over again

somewhere in the system things arent written down right
once eg its in a computer wrong
well
it must be true since its written down
forever

im sure most of you have had this happen before

we sometimes buy our prescriptions at costco
and get a 6 months supply
since its cheaper to just pay cash for them
but
somehow the system cant understand that
it seems to only know 1 month or 3 months

now
i have the back door numbers to my doctors
i can circumvent the above inefficient system
to get things fixed

i have done that before
after i played the part of the typical patient

now i know the people involved all along the path
i realize they are doing their job as best as they can
but
somewhere this is written down wrong

it can cause a $10 prescription to become a $200 one

now multiple this by all yall who are patients
thats all of you

well
thats a lot of money and a lot of errors

i am slowly being driven farther to the other side
the patients side

this should be a requirement for all providers
to be on the other side

i dont like it much
