welcome to the organic green doctor blog

i am a family physician who was diagnosed with
early mild cognitive impairment(mci) amnestic type on december 21, 2010
this is a precursor to alzheimers disease
because of this diagnosis i have opted to stop practicing medicine
this blog will be about my journey with this disease
please feel free to follow me along this path
i will continue blogging on organic gardening, green living,
solar power, rainwater collection, and healthy living
i will blog on these plus other things noted to be interesting

alzheimers news-we need your help

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-WE NEED YOUR HELP
Image result for organicgreendoctor
i am a week away from receiving my final infusion in the i dont know if i am getting the placebo or not aducanumab study
after this infusion i will go into the next phase of the study which i will call i know now i will not be getting the placebo but will be getting the real thing aducanumab study

my journey all started when i decided to enter a study to feel like i was doing my part to find a treatment or if we are lucky a cure for this disease

i saw my mother and my younger brother struggle with this disease

so i entered a study to be in the normal control group
thats when things changed
i got diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment the precursor stage to early alzheimers disease
it changed my life and my familys lifes

i entered the adni 2 study for 5 years then from there went into the aducanumab study
which uses monthly infusions of an antibody against the bad beta amyloid in the brain
this stuff being deposited is where alzheimers starts
stop it and you might slow down or stop alzheimers
it seems this is what it may do

so how did i find these studies
i went to these two sites
clinicaltrials.gov
trial match via the alzheimers association website
these led me to the alzheimers center at ut southwestern in dallas

why
i wanted to do my part

what is one of the two major obstacles to finding a cure for this disease

well
go look in the mirror
thats right
you

its volunteers for these studies
without them
these new treatments wont happen

help us
find a cure
volunteer

here is an article from the national institutes on aging that lists multiple websites for where you can volunteer for studies
there are studies in every state

then
the other obstacle is money
research doesnt just happen
it needs money lots of money
the feds now pour more money in for research
but we need more
bill gates threw in millions for research
thanks bill

a lot of funding and edcuational services come from the alzheimers association and the other independent ones in each state

most of these sites have alzheimers walks to raise money

you can go to www.alz.or/walk and type in your location and they will give you your nearest alzheimers association walk to end alzheimers

in texas
this alzheimers texas independent alzheimers site has several walks in central texas

in arkansas the arkansas alzheimers has several walks in that state

in the los angeles area
the alzheimers greater la  has its walk on october 28th
this is the group i am doing a alzheimers panel on early memory loss at the ucla medical center santa monica on september 29th

in santa barbara
i will be doing the alzheimers association walk on november 3rd
i will be posting a link to my teams page ie organicgreendoctor soon so you can sign up and or donate to our team

i will be doing a talk at the valle verde center in santa barbara on october 4th and for the alzheimers association

Image result for organicgreendoctor.com joe nash
in southern arkansas
my younger brother joe died in his early 60s from alzheimers disease
he was diagnosed in his mid 50s
his diagnosis and death and my moms diagnosis and death are what drives me to find a treatment or cure for me and those of you who are destined to be diagnosed with this disease
Image result for organicgreendoctor
my mother nell was diagnosed in her mid 70s and died in her early 80s
they both lived in southern arkansas

his wife and children have a team in the southern arkansas walk to end alzheimers on september 22nd

they had a long journey with him
they want to honor him
they want to help find a treatment for his kids and grandkids and their cousins and their uncles and aunts and for those others of you who are destined to be affected by this
awful alzheimers disease

here is the link to his team
#team joe nash
if you can sign up and walk with them and or donate to the cause

for those of you who couldnt make the long trip to little rock in the past to support his family
and well also to support the nash family in our fight against this disease
show up to show your support for them and for us

so
volunteer for studies
walk and or donate to the cause

we are
so so close
to finding a treatment and a cure

im doing all i can to advance the cause
we need all yalls help

alzheimers news-its not my drug

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-ITS NOT MY DRUG
Image result for organicgreendoctor
several folks contacted me yesterday asking if the drug that was in the news was my drug
it was on a lot of tv channels and on my newsfeeds yesterday and today

that drug is called ban2401
my drug is called aducanumab
both are made by biogen

Image result for ban2401
ban2401 attacks the amyloid at a particular site called protofibrils
aducanumab attacks the amyloid at a different site
both drugs grabs the amyloid and removes it
both are antibodies against the amyloid given as an injection or an infusion

ban2401 is about 2-5 years behind my drug aducanumab
ban2401 is in phase 2 studies
aducanumab is in phase 3 studies

the aducanumab phase 3 study ends for me after my next 2 infusions in 6 weeks
others in my study are further behind me
there are about 1200+ of us in the aducanumab study

it should be all finished in 2019 with the final results out probably 2020
it could be on the market the following year or two pending fda approval
ban2401 wont be available if it continues to do well until 2021+

dont worry starting in october i begin to definitely receive the aducanumab and not the placebo and will receive it for another 18 months or longer
that should carry me into 2020 when the results come out
if it doesnt work then ill stop it
if it does work then ill probably stay on it since they usually will continue the studies for a long term after that
ie
im covered for now

ban2401 in this phase 2 study didnt work except at the higher doses
it worked best in folks like me with the apoe 4 gene
this higher dose study has only about 200-300 folks in it
the drug in the higher dose not only removed the amyloid
but
the patients memory improved by 30% on the memory tests they used

Image result for aducanumab
aducanumab results from nature

my drug aducanumab in its phase 1 study on 100+ patients also worked best at the higher doses
the amyloid was mostly removed
the higher the dose the more removed
also all in the phase 1 study had improvement in their memories
except
those who received the placebo
it always sucks to be in the placebo group

so unlike the ban2401 drug it worked at the lower doses just not as strongly
the folks in the phase 1 study of aducanumab have now been followed for over 5 years
they have continued to have less amyloid in the brain and have showed continued improvement in their memory

my aducanumab drug also has higher side effects at the higher doses
in fact in the phase 3 study they dropped the highest dose because of the side effects
the biggest side effect is micorobleeds that may occur as the amyloid plaques are removed
a side effect that most of us with this disease would readily accept
but
the fda doesnt like them

when my drug aducanumab publishes its results next year or next expect the same hype that the ban2401 is getting now
the difference is that it will be available first for treatment for alzheimers disease

it probably will be used in folks with prealzheimers disease
prealzheimers disease is where many of you are
you dont have symptoms but your amyloid pet scans and or your spinal fluid for amyloid are positive
you just dont know that yet

it will be also used in folks like me with the diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment or those with mild alzheimers
it probably wont be used in moderate to severe alzheimers since by then so much damage has been done that little gain will come from using this expensive drug on those patients

getting diagnosed early is going to be important in the near future if you are going to be able to stop or slow down this disease

in the meantime be aggressive in taking care of your health

the early the better is the rule

so thats my answer to the question
is this your drug

alzheimers news-thanks bill

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-THANKS BILL
Image result for organicgreendoctor
one of the goals of alzheimers researchers besides the main one of finding a  treatment or cure of this disease is to be able to identify folks with alzheimers early in the disease or even before symptoms start

if you can get to folks before symptoms start or before damage has been done
then you have a better chance of slowing or stopping the disease

once the damage is done
its done
its not repaired

thats why you see so many drugs fail
they are started too late
they cant fix whats already been broken
its like a vase dropped from a roof onto a sidewalk
its smashed to thousands of pieces that cant be put back together

so it is with an alzheimers brain

so if i really have alzheimers disease then its being going on for at least 15-20 years
it just hasnt taken over enough brain cells yet to make me have noticeable symptoms
that damage cant ever be repaired even if they find a treatment or cure

so thats why early detection then treatment even if there is no symptoms is so important

ive read for the last 8 years since i was diagnosed
that an early blood test to tell you if you have alzheimers is almost here
they seem to say that each year
its not here yet

Image result for bill gates
now
enter bill gates
one of the richest men in the world
who has given lots of his money away for good causes
basically he got his money off us all who bought his products and now he is giving it to more needy folks

he recently donated well over 100 million just for alzheimers research
now
he has donated 30 million just to find an affordable test like a blood test for early detection of this awful disease
here is his statement

“Imagine a world where diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease is as simple as getting your blood tested during your annual physical.”

well i can imagine it
this money was put into a venture fund
he calls it diagnostic accelerator

we the federal government should be doing this by spending our money for a disease that is programmed to totally break our healthcare system in the near future
it will cost us billions of dollars

thanks bill
for doing what our federal government wont do for us

he is the definition of a philanthropist

on another note
biogen will be presenting data form the aducanumab study that i am in and one similar to it on sunday at a large alzheimers conference
expect to see news reports on their findings

expected approval for use by the fda if its approved will be 2020 or 2021
please hurry since i am scheduled to come off the aducanumab study in spring 2020
i dont want to lose anything ive gained

this aducanumab will not be a cure for alzheimers
it will be a treatment that will slow it down

alzheimers news-3 more and what it is

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-3 MORE AND WHAT IT IS
Image result for organicgreendoctor
yesterday at the ucla infusion center i received my 17th infusion in the biogen aducanumab study of either a placebo or the drug aducanumab
aducanumab is an antibody against the bad beta amyloid that is thought to be the cause of alzheimers dieseae
the aducanumab is the most promising drug thats being investigated now to eventually make to the market if it shows promise in slowing down or stopping the disease

yesterday i had a bad headache when i got home which for me is a good sign since thats a major side effect of his drug
if my headache which is still present this morning despite acetaminophen is from my infusion then that would mean i am getting the real drug which is a real good thing
as i discussed with the research director and nurse yesterday if i have side effects thats a good thing
folks like me who have the apoe4 gene are much more likely to have this headache side effect

in fact if i am getting this real drug the dose will be a lower dose to prevent worsening headaches which is caused by microbleeds where the bad beta amyloid plaques are being removed by the drug

a little micobleed i can handle
like i told them
the option for me and others well there really isnt one right now
a little headache and microbleed we will accept

dont worry they do regular mris of the brain to make sure this hasnt happened
in fact i have one in 10 days back at ucla

the only problem is if i were to have a microbleed which means im getting the drug then im out of the study
a bad thing that would be

starting in october all of those 1200 plus folks in the study who want to can continue for another 2 years receiving all of us the real drug and not the placebo with the possibility of getting it even longer if its promising in its effect against this awful disease

so if its approved for use i and we may if we didnt get the placebo get 4+ years of this drug before it reaches the market

for me eg it would have slowed down the disease for me so i would have more cognitive presence here on this earth

thats why i and the others have gone on this journey in hopes of getting some treatment not available elsewhere

otherwise it just taking meds like aricept (donepezil) and its cousins and living a healthy life and taking some recommended supplements
those are your options

its well worth the effort being in this study if it works
if it doesnt work then we have solved whether this approach works or not and science can move in another direction

this week the nih thats the national institute of health published this youtube video on
HOW ALZHEIMERS CHANGES THE BRAIN

if you have it or if you have a loved one who has it or if you are worried you have it
then
watch this video below to see what happens inside the brain

alzheimers news-right to try

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-RIGHT TO TRY
Image result for organicgreendoctor
there is not much i agree with trump on
but this one i do
its the right to try legislation that basicallly
lets folks who have run out of options take
drugs that are in phase 1 trials

now phase 1 is the first start to a process
that can take up to 10 or more years before
the drug gets approved and out to the public

eg
my drug aducanumab in its phase 1 study
did fairly well
it removed the measurable amyloid on
pet scans and showed some improvement
in memory for folks who got the
real drug

under this law one could access this drug
now to get treated for this incurable diseease

an advanced cancer might be a better
example though
weve all read about terminal cancer patients
trying to get access to a new drug still in
research

what do they have to lose
right

now alzheimers disease might not be the best
example since when you are in the terminal
stage its too late since so much damage has
been done that the brain cant be fixed

if you were early in the disease process like i
am then you might benefit from these
experimental drugs since the earlier the disease
is treated the more likely it can be slowed
or one day treated

so looking at all the stuff in research for
stopping alzheimers thats in phase 1 2 or 3
my drug aducanumab would be the one i
would choose
it seems it might help slow things down

now
in about 3 months i will definitely get the
real drug so i wouldnt do anything different
than im doing now

but lets say it was 2010 when i was diagnosed
via positive pet scans and positive spinal fluid
and positive genetic tests and positive memory
tests
well in 2010 if this drug was available and this
law was the law i could apply to get this drug
under the right to try law

i wouldnt hesitate one iota to do it

this warning though for folks
you will really have to do your homework on
the right to try drug to be sure you are not
getting some rip off drug or some drug that
is more toxic than your disease

nope i woulnt blink an eye since doing
nothing has only one outcome
its not a good one

i looked at all the stuff im taking now to slow
down this disease and i have noticed that
almost every prescription pill im taking
and every supplement im taking is not
approved by the fda for treating alzheimers
disease

why then am i doing it
well
the options are
well
theres not any

most if not all the things i take are based
some on scientific research some which
is done on animals

heres my list

aricept  (donepezil) is approved for use in
folks with alzheimers but not my diagnosis
mild cognitive impariment
the fda says i shouldnt be on this stuff
yet
new and old research suggests that starting
aricept (donepezil) early may and very
likely helps to prevent the deposition of
amyloid in the brain so starting it early
may be important in slowing down the
disease and not just the symptoms

irbesartan i take for high blood pressure
its also in a class of drugs that may slow
down the disease
again not fda approved for this

atorvastatin thats lipitor for cholesterol
control
again in studies lowering your cholesterol
may slow down the development of
alzheimers
not fda approved

folic acid and vitamin b12 for a high
level of homocysteine which is associated
with a increased risk for alzheimers as
well as heart attack and stroke
not proven not fda approved

omega 3 ditto
vitamin a ditto
curcumin or turmeric acid ditto
coconut oil ditto
probiotics ditto
co q 10 ditto
vit b 100 with all the b vitamins again ditto
bacopa ditto
melatonin to improve sleep ditto
aspirin ditto
and others

so you can see there is this level that most
of these are at that they are not definitely
proven to slow down or prevent alzheimers
but there is trending evidence that they
do or might work against this awful
fatal disease

if i wait for fda approval it may not ever
happen
so i have the right to try them if i want
to but i am careful to read and be sure
that none of these are snake oil type
drugs

if they work then im glad i did take all of
them
if they dont work then what have i lost
just a few bucks each month

if you decide to do the  right to try thing
make sure you know a lot about the drug
and what good researchers think it may
do

ive read a lot of stuff about drugs that
are definitely snake oil worthy

i try
i have the right to
as of now
theres not much else to do

alzheimers news-whats next

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-WHATS NEXT

Image result for organicgreendoctor
if you take a cholesterol drug
why do you take it

i know i know
because your doctor tells you to
but
why do you take it

you take the cholesterol drug so that down the road a few
years your arteries wont get all clogged up
and cause you to
have a stroke
have a heart attack

thats really why

so it is with the goal of a new alzheimers drug
you start it early years before its time to lose your memory

these new drugs
based on those in the works
prevents or removes beta amyloid from forming
or
maybe
prevents or removes the tau protein tangles that may form
after amyloid plaques form

both are believed to be what happens in alzheimers
to kill brain cells

so
all the new drugs for alzheimers slows or stops this process
hopefully

they like the cholesterol drugs will really need to be started
before symptoms start to have their maximum effect

the problem is many of them may not work at all
maybe
either they were tested wrong or they just dont work

some may have been tested in folks way too advanced in the
disease to have an affect on the outcome

much like taking cholesterol drugs after youve had
a major heart attack or stroke
it may help some but not much

we are now at the point
maybe a breaking point
in alzheimers research where its possible none of these new drugs
will work to cure or treat alzheimers

a former patient was diagnosed with lymphoma
she is about to start a 5 drug regimen to treat her lymphoma
which is now considered a curable cancer

one of the drugs she will take is an antibody against a protein
on the lymphoma cancer cell
it grabs the protein by doing so kills the lymphoma cell

my drug aducanumab grabs the beta amyloid protein and
extracts it from the brain

they work similar ways but on different proteins

now her antibody will not totally wipe out the lymphoma
thus she will be given 4 other drugs that each attacks the
lympoma cancer in different ways
they will weaken the cancer so it gets wiped out completely
ie a cure

thats what i think will happen in alzheimers treatment
my drug eg will be given to remove and prevent more amyloid
from being formed
being developed are drugs that attack the alzheimers forming
mechanism in the brain in different ways
this combo like the lymphoma treatment
may cure or keep the alzheimers at bay or stop it where its at

i read an article just this week that aricept (donepezil) that i take
that if given to prealzheimers folks
those who have beta amyloid accumulation with no symptoms
this may delay the deposition of beta amyloid if the aricept is
started early

oh wait what if you took aducanumab my drug with the aricept
would that make it work better like with treating cancer

i hope so since im on both of those now

usually aricept is started when symptoms start and the disease
starts to worsen

so
this week i noticed that he company that makes my drug has
gotten a favorite recommendation from the financial world
because well it seems the financial world seems to know these
things before the scientific world gets the information out
to all of us

i think what will happen is
aducanumab will not cure alzhiemers
it may slow it down or stop it where its at but if its stopped
the alzheimers will then take off again

a combo regimen will have to be used

well at least i am like my former patient with lymphoma
i am getting the preliminary treatment with my antibody to clear
things out until that regimen is invented

please hurry
we can hold down the fort for only so long

hows yours doing

HOWS YOURS DOING
organicgreendoctor: longevity
about 8 years ago mine kept inching upwards
even though i was doing things right
so
i finally gave in
i started blood pressure meds

the first one i took worked great
within the week my blood pressure was normal
then
i began to cough
i began to have what felt like something in my throat
i stopped the meds
it went away
i restarted the meds
it all came back

so i changed to a different blood pressure med

this week we were at a friends house in the la area
as i sat outside on their patio
there was this magazine
THE MAKEOVER ISSUE
real simple may 2018
i opened it
there was this article
on why do so many people have high blood pressure

this is a summary of the gist of what the article said

use to 140/90 was the limit
now
its at 130/80
at that reading the risk for heart atttack or stroke doubles

so when the recommendation changed
a way lot more of us just developed high blood pressure
or
also called hypertension

high blood pressure ranks 2nd to smoking as the leading
cause of death
did you know alzheimers disease may soon be number 3

men and women get it equally
black women are at greater risk
if it runs in your family you are at greater risk
just like with alzheimer disease

after these new guidelines there are  now 100 million of us
in the usa with this disease
most will have to get on one of several meds that are available

what other diseases you have may determine what particular
one you are given to take

when you read the side effects
realize that some of those side effects arent as bad as having
the diseases you can get from poorly controlled blood pressure
like stroke death heart attack kidney disease and
yes alzheimers disease

now there are lifestyle things you can do that may help
even if you do these you still may need medications

exercise
pick something to do and do it regularly

fix sleep issues

check your meds prescriptions and over the counter
eg thngs like the arthritis pills ibuprofen and naproxyn etc may
make your blood pressure go up
it did me

eat less salt and more veggies
i suggest the mind diet or mediterranean diet
all the foods are there they are just rearranged some

watch how much you drink
a little is good
too much can cause high blood pressure

watch your weight
no dont watch it
make it decrease
usually if you eat right drink less and exercise that will do it

de stress
whatever you like to do that makes you de stress do it
yoga or meditation
for me its gardening

make time for friends and families
ie socialize

so do those things
youll live longer
feel better
you might not even need blood pressure meds

if you do have to have them these healthy things keep the dose
you have to take lower

oh
if you do these lifestyle things over your lifetime
you will decrease your risk for getting alzheimers by
maybe 40%

its a no brainer
if you dont do something

alzheimers news-maybe a little here and a little there will help

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-MAYBE A LITTLE HERE AND A LITTLE
THERE MAY HELP

Image result for organicgreendoctor
the clocks aticking
i realized this this week
when an alzheimers wife called me about her husband
listening to his story i realized that he is past the halfway point
on that downward slide that doesnt end well
it that slide will intensify over the next several months
then he will fall off

he was diagnosed the same year i was
he was a working professional forgetting things
he has now reached the edge and will soon start that fall

when he and i were diagnosed
i really expected to be where he was today

instead
here i am giving advice to an alzheimers wife who
when you look at her you see the fatigue dripping from her face
that tired tired walk she has
he is taking her down with him it seems
not on purpose though
its part of the disease
this caregiving thing

she was asking me about getting him into research studies
i thought to myself
its too late way too late to do anything else for him
but love him and care for him
and
get yourself some relief and help

i didnt encourage her to seek research help
it would be fruitless

this last week merck the drug company is publishing results
of its study on its new bace inhibitor
that blocks the production of the bad beta amyloid that gets
deposited in the brain in alzheimers

in the study it worked but the folks didnt get better
maybe because the folks were like the above guy
too far along in the disease

now
the long term studies that are being done are done on folks
who are early in the disease or have no symptoms at all
ie they have positive scans for alzheimers
but who have no symptoms

those are the ones that may be helped by these bace inhibitors
they dont remove the stuff the amyloid and plaques like
the infusions that i am on

my infusions remove the amyloid and the plaques and stimulate the
garbage cells to clean up things
the bace inhibitors only stop the amyloid production
doing that after the fact doesnt undo whats been done

so for me and others my age
the drugs like the aducanumab is our last hope
if they dont work or the bace inhibitors dont work
the next wave of drugs for this awful disease is meant
for those in the generation behind us

if this stuff fails all we have to work with is maybes
like

eating a mediterranean or mind diet that may delay things if done
long term by a few years

looking at the 36 point plan outlined in dr bredesens reversal of
cognitive decline article
highlight the above and google it

i am doing all those things he recommends if i can tolerate them
no
they arent proven to help scientifically
they many of them are maybes

well doing all the healthy things on the list are almost sure to help
the supplements are maybes

but
my and our choices are what

there is not one if the aducanumab like drugs dont work

we are left with the maybes
we as a generation missed the ride to the cure

now i do feel like that something im doing has slowed things
down a lot
im not sure what it is
but
i plan on continuing what im doing
and
adding any maybes that may appear in research that
wont cause me harm or interfere with my medications

my most recent maybe is
cbd oil
ive found the research that says maybe
maybe

i know what dose to take
i plan to take it
just
when i come to visit texas or arkansas this summer
i have to leave it at home since i could get busted with it
in my possession

how does it work
it seems to help remove the bad beta amyloid in the brain
well why dont they just do the research to know if it does
for sure
the federal government makes it almost impossible to do the
research
so
i cant wait on this maybe
at least
i live in a state that allows me to purchase it legally here
and
not feel like a criminal

i can see it now
retired austin doctor arrested at the airport with illegal substance

so
im getting ready
if my aducanumab fails
starting now
to take my maybes
that maybe helps
maybe

ive told several well all of the doctors that i see what im doing
they give me that look
i know it cause i use to do the same thing to patients
but
i really have no other choice
other than do nothing

i know thats not going to help any

alzheimers news-its not fair

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-ITS NOT FAIR
Image result for organicgreendoctor.com joe nash
its not fair
that im still here and he is gone
we were born almost a year apart
we were really
almost like twins
fraternal twins
we were different but we did a lot together
some of it mischievous
quite mischievous

i wont give you any details
even though the statue of limitations are past

we have the same genetic background
now i know i have the homozygous double apoe 4 genes
im sure he had at least one if not two of them
he probably got two of those late onset alzheimers apoe 4genes

it doesnt seem fair though
that he got it so young in his early 50s
then once diagnosed
it seemed he just had a steady decline
down that final slide that people with alzheimers disease
have
one that once it starts cant be stopped

even in the future when new treatments come along
i doubt that when the slide starts that even this stuff
will work

he died in the last stages of alzheimers in august 2013
at the age of 62
i was 63
i had been diagnosed almost 3 years before he died with
mild cognitive impairment due to alzheimers disease
my memory had started a slow decline during this time
but
for some reason he has stopped that decline

i really thought that today at 68 that i would be where he was
when he was diagnosed
meaning that that decline would have started to begin
for me

it hasnt
my memory is stable
if not better
my health knock on wood seems to be good

why me
why not him

i think i was sort of lucky by accidentally having my memory issues
picked up real early before it was noticed
i had volunteered to be in the adni alzheimers study in the normal group

my early diagnosis made me change my life before symptoms showed up
being aggressive doing all the healthy things that one needs to do
to slow things down

its been shown that early diagnosis does alter that downward trajectgory
so that the decline when it happens gets pushed down the road some

when he was diagnosed it was probably too late to do much intervention
since its being shown that if we are going to stop this disease
it has to happen in folks before they have have symptoms
or
in folks extremely early in the disease process like i am

looking at whats going on in alzheimers research
there will likely be a treatment or treatments in 10 years
that will slow down the disease or stop it in its tracks

i think
what if that stuff had been available 15 years or so ago
for him and my mom
they both might still be with us
as would many of your loved ones

so
get diagnosed early
maximize your health
blood pressure cholesterol weight exercise diabetes sleep mental health issues
stay mentally active
consider supplements
volunteer for a clinical study see clinical trials.gov
youll know where you are with the diagnosis so when its time
for you to get treatment then you will know if you have it or not

his birthday is on april 8th
he would have been 67
he died in hospice on august 8 2013
he is missed by friends and family
especially his wife and kids and grandkids and siblings

we all would like to be able to see his smile again

we need a treatment and cure for this awful awful disease

alzheimers news-theres more coming

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-THERES MORE COMING
Image result for organicgreendoctor
in 2010 when i was diagnosed
it was 1 every 69 seconds
now
its 1 every 63 seconds
by 2050
its will be 1 every 33 seconds

i guess we arent making headway are we

in the last few years the deaths from alzheimers has increased
125 %
while most other major diseases like heart disease has decreased

we spend around $277 billion a year on alzheimers in the us
$186 billion of that is paid for by medicare and medicaid
if we could diagnose it early we might save 25% of the cost of
the lifetime care of each alzheimers patient

we cant afford to not do something about this disease

here is a nice article on all this

early and more accurate diagnosis is now available
like that i have had in the private world and in the research world
which in the future will allow us to began treating folks
when treatment arrives on the market which will save us money
in the long run

ive read where the life expectancy of a white male has dropped
maybe since they are dying earlier they wont get alzheimers
although heart disease and diabetic folks tend to be at an increased
risk for alzheimers
we cant win can we us males that are white

if we dont find a treatment or cure in the future
the numbers of folks over 65 with alzheimers disease
by 2050 will triple in numbers

again
by 2050 someone will develop alzheimers disease in the us
every 33 seconds

yes
theres more coming
we cant afford to not do something to slow this disease down

alzheimers news-dontcha remember

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-DONTCHA REMEMBER
Image result for organicgreendoctor
well thats sort of what im being asked to do today
see what i remember

i know i wrote after the alzheimers panel i was on a
couple of weeks ago
dont use the word remember is what those affected said

well today i have to test my memory skills
at the one year follow up for
biogens aducanumab research study at ucla
aducanumab is an antibody against amyloid which attaches
itself to the amyloid and removes it from the brain
its given as a monthly infusion

one of the indications that it is working is
an improvement or no change in ones memory

to get in the study
you have to undergo a lot of testing
labs scans neurological exams and memory testing

so one year ago there was a lot of memory testing
memory testing is the part of the research study that
i dont like
i call it sort of torture testing

if you have any memory issues
its bothersome real bothersome to do the memory testing

so one year ago the original testing is the baseline
memory testing that future testing
gets compared to

i had memory testing about 6 months ago
it was not as comprehensive as the beginning testing

from looking at the schedule today i probably will
have about 2 hours or so of memory testing

if this stuff is working
if i am getting the real drug and not the placebo
my memory will not have worsened
it may not  have improved
it may have just stayed the same
which is acceptable to me

i read today that alzheimers disease may be like hiv
you will be able to take medications that will stabilize
the disease so that it doesnt takeover the brain
thats ok with me
thats acceptible

my guess
my memory hasnt changed
its hard to tell if it got better since im so early into the
disease as it wasnt bad to begin with

ok i admit trump had a better moca memory test score than i did
on my first one

heres hoping i do remember things

also
i have to have a repeat liver enzyme test
they were slightly increased two weeks agao
i think because of the excessive acetaminophen and ibuprofen
and naprosyn along with some hydrocodone i took while
fighting the flu and the dental abscess
i do expect those to have settled back down to normal
heck
when i had my molar tooth removed last week and
had a bone graft done
i opted to skip the pain meds completely
they wanted me to alternate the ibuprofen and acetaminophen
i smiled
i didnt do that
i did take a couple of pain pills the first night but none since

there is nothing i want to interfere with me being in the study
nothing
it has the potential to be life changing for my wife she and i

so
im one year in
i have at least 2 plus years to go
in 6 months i will definitely be getting the real drug
aducanumab

i think my remembering is ok
