RAINBOWS
i have written several times about aspergers and autism
for some reason i seemed to have had a lot of patients
with this diagnosis in my practice
they ranged from the lowest level to the highest level

just before i quit practicing medicine before i was diagnosed
with early mild cognitive impairment amnestic type i met
a lady one day who brought her son in for an urgent care visit

it turns out she was the wife of one of my patients
she had an ipad she was looking at and writing on when
i walked into the room
what you doing i asked
she said im working on my blog
oh i said i have a blog too
little did she know that i already knew that my days practicing
were soon to come to an end
i was just waiting for the final diagnosis

since that day weve stayed in contact via email facebook and
blogging

she has two sons with aspergers and writes about their struggles
in their day to day lives
its hard to read sometimes as she fights for whats right for them

i introduced a relative to her blog
she has followed it regularly since then
and finds it helpful as she struggles with her sons aspergers

the blog confessions of an aspergers mom is sort of a in your
face blog at times
an approach you have to take sometimes with the system to
get what your child or in her case her two boys needs

this week my relative wrote a guest blog in the
confessions of an aspergers mom

take a moment and read this blog titled end of the rainbow

for my wife she and i it was gut wrenching to read thinking of
what she and her family and her son went through and are still
going through every day with there really being no end in sight

my wife she has a special place in her heart for the relatives son and
also found this soothing in a way but sad

so now we know his full story and know why he is where
he is with his life
we understand and can accept it all

IT WASNT ASPERGERS


when i heard about the shootings in connecticut i heard the
newscaster say that the shooter had aspergers
i thought oh no now they are going to start saying that
aspergers caused him to shoot those kids
here we go
you know how the news media can really distort things

those of us who have taken care of these kids and adults
know that violence is not part of their nature

im surprised that its not since they are the ones that
get bullied a lot in the schools
you know im correct
you know kids whove had this disorder and who are
bullied a lot at schools


aspergers (which is being changed to autism spectrum disorder)
are a higher functioning form of autism
my wife she calls them little professors
they are some of her favorite students

some have said that michael dell bill gates thomas jefferson
sir isaac newton hans christian anderson etc has/had a form of aspergers
dont know if thats true or not

but many have a super high intelligence and can have
amazing abilities in certain areas such as math remembering dates
remembering freeway exits music skills etc

many of my pediatric patients with autism or apergers fathers
seemed to be in the computer industry and were programmers or
computer engineers for dell amd ibm and other computer companies

when i would see the fathers as patients you could see some of the
aspergers characteristics in them

so no they are not a violent group of people

when i heard he had aspergers i thought to myself
he has something else wrong with him besides aspergers
that im sure will eventually come out when more
information is released on his mental health care

my blogging buddy who writes about her asperger kids
in her blog confessions of an aspergers mom
wrote a good blog yesterday and has a good reference
on thoughts on the subject

litlle dylan he was shot in the sandy hook killings had
autism and died in the arms of the aide who helped
him in his classes
she was one of his favorite people

so no being aspergers had nothing to do with this killing
except his other mental issues along with maybe being
bullied all his life may have pushed him over the edge

it wasnt aspergers
lets stay away from that idea
those guys are stigmatized enough as it is

4   confusion with time and place    people with alzheimers
can loose track of dates, seasons, and the passage of time
they may have trouble understanding something if it is not
happening immediately     sometimes they may forget where
they are or how they got there

whats typical   getting confused about the day of the week
but figuring it out later
(whew that one had me worried at first)

ONIONS
here in this area now is a good time to plant onions
as always you must have good soil
add 3-4 inches of compost (i make my own-chickens
keep it all stirred up for me)
add some organic fertilizer to the mixture
work all this into the soil
i plant my onion plants (not bulbs) every 4 inches in a
raised bed      then over time as they grow i thin them out
by picking every other one as my wife she tells me she
needs an onion

plant them about 1 inch deep and water in with seaweed
or an organic fertilizer like johns recipe

i will sprinkle with the organic fertilizer and work it in
every month or you can add the liquid organic fertilizer
every 2-3 weeks
i loosely put pine straw over the beds     i remove the
pine straw when the weather gets warm

the onions are ready to be picked when the tops die
here its usually in june

FAILED CROP
go to google to the right and type in cole crop and read
about my cole crop garden
cole plants are cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, caul-
flower, and kale and i include greens
well had the best plants have ever had since ive been
gardening
had them under the white row cover to protect them
from insects and the cold
well little did i know that there were aphids galore and
white flies just loving that nice warm environment
i was busy with work and dealing with my new diagnosis
so did not check on it like i should have
when i did make it to the cole crop they were covered
with the aphids and flies
had to pull every one of them up
the chickens loved them
they got to eat the aphids and flies plus got to eat he
cole plants also
double treat they said

temple couldnt speak until she was 4 years old
she now has a phd and is an author of several books
