DEAR MS B-U R SUNSHINE
ms b
you are a true ray of sunshine in our lives this week
we have our hands on you mostly all to ourselves this week
and
are we having fun or what
the first thing we did is go to our favorite mexican food restaurant
as we walked in
you had your new back pack on
its yellow
it a donald duck backpack
wonder where you got that
now a 2 year old is a busy person
but
sometimes they can make fun out of things
we never think about
probably having more fun that if we had taken
her somewhere
like a park or zoo
like yesterday
there is this old chair your gma she drugged home
it was all beat up real bad
ms b
i instantly saw an end product
a true duct tape chair
so i used 2 rolls of duct tape on this chair
its my favorite piece of furniture in our house
now
i think its your favorite
as you climbed up in it
looked up at me and smiled
please her eyes said
now this chair should be at every park
every daycare
it does so much
it easily goes around and around like a merry go round
it rocks back and forth like a rocking horse
plus its easier to hold on
then
it slides forward and backwards
like you were ice skating or something
i finally had to say
no mas no mas
heck
i was pretty dizzy afterwards
as you said
more more granddaddy
yes
you can say my name now
you ask me
you can have it
me thinks you will return to that old chair
many times while you are here
you love the big ole frog in our small pond
it jumps in
croaks a lot
now you can croak just like it
then
theres the little fishes we have swimming in there
those
ms b
are from the river
where
we plan to wagon you down to today
to throw rocks
get wet
maybe see a deer or a cow or a rabbit or a turkey
on the way we will go past the horseys and mule and cows
our plan is for you to be wet and dirty when you come back
with a big smile on your face
then
its into the garden
to trim off all our spinach
to pull up some big ole carrots
to pick some sweet peas
to pick some asparagus
then
we will plant our basil and our peppers
and
plant our black eyed peas on any bare ground left
maybe just maybe
ms b
we will have some blackeyed peas for new years day
that means good luck for the rest of the year
then
its bluebonnet picture time
we have saved a patch with your name on it
then
by this time
i think you will be all tuckered out
yep
u r our sunshine for sure

dear ms b-know what you eat
DEAR MS B-KNOW WHAT YOU EAT

ms
in this picture above you are helping me pour stuff on
your garden
in the container is a mixture of seaweed and fish emulsion
and molasses
an organic mixture that stimulates the growth of the veggies
in your square foot garden
you dont have to worry about any bad stuff being dumped
on top of the veggies that you eat from the garden
not so
though when you eat veggies grown elsewhere
especially non organically
now lucky for you
there is this fantastic farmers market near where you live
so much of what you eat veggie wise come from there
no here is a tale
of where some of our foods come from
please dont eat any of this stuff
now in arkansas
yes you have roots there
there is a lot of soybeans grown there
some places grow soybeans that have a gene to resist the spraying
of that monsanto stuff called roundup
dont ever let your daddy use this stuff
or
stuff with atracine in it commonly used in weed and feed

nrdc.org
that stuff makes frogs have one eye and 5 legs
who knows what it would do to your growing little body
so now this roundup resistant soybeans has led to weeds
that are now roundup resistant
you know
nature has a way to win in the end
lesson dont mess with it too much
they would spray this roundup all over the soybeans
to kill the weeds
the problem is there is a thing called natural selection
nature selected the weed that was resistant to this bad stuff
round up
so those weeds then start to take over
cause monsantos poison wont work no more
so they developed a new poison called dicamba
they developed a new plant resistant to round up and the new stuff
so they spray it on the soybeans to kill the weeds
problem is its not approved yet by the epa
monsanto does it anyway
they are the donald trump of poison makers
so
yep
you guessed it
natural selection the old nature always wins eventually
the soybean weeds called pigweed are developing resistant to the new stuff
now in my organic garden the weeds that do show up
are not resistant to my treatment
i reach down
grasp it tightly
pull it up
put it in my compost pile
to eventually be used to grow my weed free garden
wonder if monsanto ever thought of something like this

dear ms b-superbug
DEAR MS B-SUPERBUG

it seems that my generation called the baby boomers
are not leaving things better for your generation
not yet named
oh i just googled it
yours is called generation z
now ms b
ive been waiting for this to happen for years
i knew the day was coming
when our world as we know it may go away
when i was in medical school and residency
we use to be able to treat a womens uti
with just amoxacillin
even those cases where they developed the more serious
infections
many could be treated with plan old ampicillin which
is the same as amoxacillin
the most common germ is called e coli
then by the time i was in private practice
it got to where you used higher and higher doses
of amoxacillin to do its job
then it didnt work anymore
this stuff was given like water to animals even if
they werent sick
it was put in their feed
kids with colds
adults with sinusitis and colds
then eventually you couldnt use it for a uti
or ear infection or pneumonia
since it didnt work anymore
it was overused
the bugs all got resistant to it
then we had to start using sulfa drugs commonly
called bactrim and septra to treat a uti
then yes
just like the others
they got to where more and more folks with a uti
would come back not cured when you treated them
with this sulfa based drug
yep
you guessed it the bugs won again
then we switched to cipro
worked great for awhile
then
you guessed it
the bugs started winning again
now many of the bugs that cause a uti
are now resistance to the cipro
so now we use
well we are starting to run out of new things to use
there is not anything new antibioticwise
that is safe to regularly use
so this last week
now i have been expecting this too finally happen
the real superbug showed up here in the united states
in a lady who had a uti
the e coli was resistant to all antibiotics we have
even gorillacillin
it first showed up in pigs in africa
so what can we do
maybe nothing
we may be all screwed now
now ms b
why am i telling you this
because
i dont want to sugarcoat life for you
this is the real world we live in
ms b
in your lifetime you will lose family members and friends
to a bacterial infection we use to be able to treat
but now we cant
because of the superbug
its my fault
the healthcare systems fault
societys fault
the animal food industrys fault
the governments fault
that this is happening
im sorry
on this one
i dont have an answer
there may not be one

now
i talked to a guy who works for a large company that is involved
with internet security
he does not have facebook

he said
you would be shocked at how much the government
and private industry and crooks can find out about you
how much they have access to
well they already know most of it
so
ms b
i dont want you to have a cell phone

dear ms b-you will
DEAR MS B-YOU WILL

now ms b
part of this blog may be a little scary
but at the end it will be good
the large body of water near you
is called
the pacific ocean
i dont know if you have been in it yet
but you will im sure
now your water you dont have to worry about it
drying up
or
overflowing
at least i dont think you do
you never know with this climate change thing
going on
i think though when i look at the predicted high
ocean levels that where you live wont be underwater
dont move to houston or san francisco or miami
now near us is our biggest body of water
the ocean is hundreds of miles away from us
on this water
people do fun stuff
like
party at lot on weekends and fish and ski and ride
ski motorcycles
well thats what i call them
there is even a beach there called
hippie hollow
but
you arent allowed to go there
ever
it smells funny and people dont wear much clothes
if any

then during the drought the last few years
there is this body of land
that just pops up in the middle of the lake
its called sometimes island
its sometimes there sometimes not
that sometimes island has been around now for awhile
making it hard to get across the lake in a boat
heck you can almost walk across it when the lake is low
now
with all the flooding we have had
that island has slowly slowly gone away
so now the sometimes island
is
now the notimes island
it be ms b all gone
thats just weird huh
now a few years ago before the drought
when the lake filled up to where it was ready to overflow
they opened the flood gates
there was this couple in an wooden boat
on the lake
now this is scary
the motor stopped working
the water like a river slowly sucked them towards
where the water was sucking under and through the dam
one person was rescued early
but
before they could get this lady off
she and the boat got sucked down through that sinkhole
they were gone
this seemed to not be going to end well
well
the bits and pieces of the boat popped up downstream
all crushed to smithereens
nope it was going to be bad for that lady
then
this people that lived below the dam
heard a knocking on their door
they opened it
there was this lady crying cold naked all scratched and beat up
but alive
she turned out ok ms b
just scared as she was sucked down through the water
through those turbines
swirly bouncing around like a ball up and down
off everything
but
shes alive and is ok
im sorry ms b
i have no plans to ever get on that lake near that dam
i bet its like a magnet if you get too close
pulling you down that hole
well at least she is ok
and
the lake was full then and is full now
sometimes its good
oh by the way
ms b
your gma has changed her will
so that
you get to inherit those heirloom homemade ash wooden clothes pin

i told you this would end good

dear ms b-food for thought
DEAR MS B-FOOD FOR THOUGHT

now ms b i saw that picture of you last week
where you were sitting in that high chair
at that yummy mexican restaurant we always eat at
when we visit
seeing that picture then reading that article this morning
on 12 powerhouse veggies
made me think about we sure hope you like your veggies
well from that picture
you definitely like refried beans
as
does all of your cute little cheeks
now beans should be on that list but its not
we eat beans at least once a week
using my special vegetarian recipe
pinto beans or blackeyed peas really a bean but if you
are from the south you call it a pea
and
those infamous billie beans that your greatgrandmother
mails to us
she gets them at a mexcian market nearby
when we come to visit next time
we plan on bringing an extra suitcase
a billie bean suitcase
just for billie beans
so here is the list
some we never really started to eat until we moved to
the country n
they are all racked full of vitamins and nutrition
good for the soul good for the thought process
ie the brain
once is collard greens
the ultimate soul food
i saw a new orleans bbqer on tv cooking some
he use hog jowls
i use veggie broth and seasonings and butter and olive oil in mine
then there is swiss chard
i we started eating this one when i found out how easy it was to
grow
its the easiest and most giving plant to grow in your garden
and
its pretty to look at
some folks use it in their landscape
especially the rainbow one
then there is asparagus
another one we didnt eat too much until we put in a
20 ft asparagus bed
plucked fresh eaten raw as you walk around the property
i have found is the best way to eat them
my bed is close to 15 years old
hoping for another 85 years for this bed
maybe ms b we will will that one to you when we leave this earth
then there are beets
taste best when grilled with veggies
we will have some tonight
warning it makes your pee red and your poop red
scared the beejeevies out of me when i first ate a lot of them
thought the big C had come to visit
now they are one of my favorite veggies when grilled
i just turn the light off in the bathroom
then there is bell pepper
if eaten organic or if you eat them from my garden
they are safe
great flavor sweet tasting when plucked right from the garden
then theres spinach
winter we eat regular old spinach
raw or in salads or cooked with greens
summer we eat malabar spinach
a vine that you only buy once
ours was purchased 15 years ago
it has reseeded now every spring
there are lots of folks growing our malabars descendents in their gardens
then greens like lettuces spinach chard
microgreens
cutting them as soon as you can like mowing a lawn
i cut some spinach that i planted back in october yesterday
for a salad
then there is watercress
sorry i cant get excited over that one for some reason
feel free to try it
then kale
that popular powerful veggie
we eat the dinosaur and the curly leaf kind seen on the lower part
of the above picture
that top plant not on the list but should be
is an asian green
we eat them all winter and most of the spring until they go to flower
then the bees attack it and make honey for us
we are a ms b and bee friendly homestead
then broccoli
another one that doesnt always make it to the kitchen
now ms b you know what i snack on all day
then peas
real peas
we plant sweet peas and eat them all winter
in our salads
and
like the asparagus
rarely do they make it inside the kitchen
so ms b
i want you to like all these power veggies
so you will be a good and healthy soulful grandbaby
who will have a healthy body
and most important
a healthy brain
these are all on the mind diet
maybe another reason i am better now
oh by the way
just add a small taste of compost to each serving
to make your
digestion and allergies better
just
dont tell mom and dad
ok
