welcome to the organic green doctor blog

i am a family physician who was diagnosed with
early mild cognitive impairment(mci) amnestic type on december 21, 2010
this is a precursor to alzheimers disease
because of this diagnosis i have opted to stop practicing medicine
this blog will be about my journey with this disease
please feel free to follow me along this path
i will continue blogging on organic gardening, green living,
solar power, rainwater collection, and healthy living
i will blog on these plus other things noted to be interesting

you are what you eat

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
when i eat something out of my organic garden i know that there are no poisons in the food
no pesticides no insecticides no nonorganic weed killers
zero
nada

when i go over to ms b house or have her at our house and make her some oatmeal or cereal
i should feel comfortable that no poisons are in the mixture she is eating
i really havent thought about it much
until
today

in california a jury awarded a groundskeeper about 290 million dollars for getting lymphoma from using roundup (glycophospate) over the years
he tells of the spray bottle breaking and getting soaked with the stuff
he also got a lot of backspray when he sprayed it everywhere

he says it caused him  to get lymphoma
the jury agrees with him
a lot of non usa countries agree with them
the state of california agrees with them
it causes cancer

just spill a bunch on you or spray it in your face or get some in your mouth
wait a few minutes and see if you dont feel funny
it absorbs through the skin nose moth and lungs

of course monsanto and the companies that make it say it aint so

would you let your baby or infant or toddler or young child eat it

well of course you wouldnt
but
you probably have been feeding it to them everyday for breakfast

remember a little goes a long way in kids

we all try to take good care of our kids
making them eat the right things
then
this all happens

in this study mentioned on the news
out of 45 samples of oat cereals or meals
all but two had levels not accepted for roundup in food

wait a minute
you mean there are levels that are acceptable in oatmeal in kids
sorrry
that doesnt seem right

whats scary is that even a few organic cereals had roundup in them
someone was lying when they grew the oats
or
someone got sprayed from the neighbor next door

this
seems unacceptable to me

so i asked ms b
ms b do you like roundup on your cherios or your oatmeal

no way she said
thats yucky

i agree
dont you

thats not acceptible

its noted that major companies oat products were tested

so ms b
looks like we will be growing oats in the garden now
no roundup will get in the oats there

that sounds familiar

THAT SOUNDS FAMILIAR
paraquat
now that sounds familiar
and sounds toxic
paraquat why does that sound so familiar

monsanto developed these seeds that carry a gene that
makes the plant resistant to glycophosphate
better known as roundup
so that the plants let say corn could be planted
then the field could be sprayed with
yes roundup so that the weeds could be killed
but the corn would be spared since it its now resistant
to roundup
sounds good
dont know if i want roundup on my corn when i eat it
if i do does that mean i will be resistant to roundup

now here is what happens when you mess with mother nature
she always always wins
think overuse of antibiotics
we now have superbugs that cant be killed
and
the drug companies are not working on any new antibiotics
no profits in them they said
they made all the profits by encouraging us all doctors and
patients to overuse them
now see what we got
a mess
also neither is monsanto making new chemicals to use
they are pulling out the old one

paraquat why does that sound so familiar
then i just read about 2 4 d now that sounds familiar also
neither a good familiar sound

so one worry is that resistant gene in that corn will move over
to weeds to create a superweed that roundup wont kill now
well
its already here those superweeds
so what the heck will they do now to kill them

well we do have this old weedkiller we use to use
it works great
its available for use all over the world
well maybe its a little toxic if you get exposed to it
it has that history it seems
but
its already being used anyway
so
lets spray it on those superweeds to wipe them out

so plant a super corn that weed killer wont kill
spray it with the weedkiller to kill the weeds
then
spray this paraquat now what is that stuff
or 2 4 d
so it will wipe our the bad remaining weeds

now what you have is a corn crop that grows well without
competition from weeds so its a more productive yield

the hell with side effects

paraquat
2 4 d
oh yeah i remember that
that was in agent orange
the chemical we are paying millions of dollars for its effect
on our vietnam veterans
but wait it also may affect their offspring too
it was also sprayed on weed from mexico after the vietnam war

so what a good idea to spray it on my corn cob
and then let me eat it

wonder if i can qualify for benefits too

just remember the recent story of how ddt used to kill mosquitoes
was found to be in high levels in people with alzheimers

wonder whats waiting for our future generations
remember its the kids who are rapidly growing new brain tissue
new heart tissue new kidney tissue new ovary or testicle tissue
that are the most vulnerable

if you can stomach it
google agent orange then hit images
itll make you go organic for sure if you have kids or
if you are pregnant

now they are developing a 2 4 d resistant gene to put in seeds
guess they didnt learn their lesson
nothing good will come of this
except for increased monsanto profits

agent orange sorry thats bad stuff

its the way it is, weed resistance

ITS THE WAY IT IS

in a county near us a guys dog and a stray dog got together
and slaughtered the neighbors 12 chickens
the county has an ordinance that dogs that kill livestock have
to be euthanized
so the two dogs were both euthanized

so now the county is rethinking the ordinance

i have lived in three states and there is an unwritten understanding
that if your dog attacks someones livestock the dog will be shot
on site

in the area where i live if your dog did this it would be shot and
probably hung on the fence by the highway along with the coyotes
that have been shot
thats the way it is and we all understand it

if my two dogs went to my neighbors and killed his chickens or
other animals
i understand that they will probably shoot both of them
and i would not say a thing
if their dogs did that to my chickens i would get my old rifle out
if i could find the bullets and shoot the dogs myself
if it even worked
if not my neighbor would do it for me

its just understood that thats the way it is
i keep my dogs inside my property and even though i live in
the country i walk the dogs on a leash always
because i know the rule of the country

and i love animals and love my dogs and cats
but i also love my chickens

WEED RESISTANCE

bam bam
i hit those weeds yesterday morning with my organic mixture
of 10% vinegar, orange oil, and liquid soap
by 500 pm they were wilted and dead
no contamination of the water system with this stuff
and it works well

i sat down yesterday after working outside all day
what a great spring day (even though its winter)
opened my email
there was the weekly newsletter from the texas gardener

in tennesse the bluegrass state? some of the bluegrass seems to
have developed resistance to glycophosphate (roundup)
so that the stuff wont kill the weeds like it is suppose to
so far resistance hasnt been found in other weeds

does that mean they will be using higher concentration of
this stuff now to kill the weeds
more pollution of our rivers lakes and groundwater
we dont have enough water now as it is

maybe we dont have to have perfection in our lawns
or maybe we dont need all those lawns
landscape some of it away with native plants
and you dont have to use that glycophosphate stuff

maybe just maybe this could lead to people not using this stuff
hopefully they wont find some other chemicals to replace it

ill just keep using my organic recipe
1 gallon of pickling vinegar (9-10%)
1-2 oz of orange oil
1 tsp of liquid dishwashing soap

dont spray it on your skin or youll find out why it works so well

no resistance possible to this stuff
stay organic
