i voted

I VOTED

as soon as we got our drivers license a few weeks ago
we were able to register to vote

in the mail came a ballot a few days later
this election voting here was all via mail in ballots

now new to the area we werent up to the politics
of the area

some of the things i voted on
some i didnt
but
i voted

i
signed the ballot
licked the envelope
popped it in the mail

as the results came out
last night
i like usually was
on the winning side of some issues
and
on the losing side on others
but
i voted

a lot of folks didnt vote
so
if i hear them whining
ill ask did you vote
they say no
ill raise my hand
and
say
talk to the hand

as i was reviewing some of the national votes
one that stood out for me
was in maine
it tends to be a republican independent state
it has a republican governor
its a different state than the rest of the states

it has a bad opioid problem

on the ballot
was the forcing of the state to accept the medicaid
expansion that the governor had refused to accept
a lot of medicaid funding goes to drug rehab programs
for the opioid addicted folks
without some type of intervention
a lot of folks are dying

i wonder if other states will do the same
personally i think big pharma should foot some of the bill
since they are the ones that pushed these powerful drugs
on unsuspecting patients
sort of a sin tax or its your fault tax

then
i noticed in one state a referendum requiring that
state programs only have to pay what the va pays
for their drugs
the va gets to competitively bid and limit what they pay

should be a no brainer
right
nope
it lost
just like in other states

we all complain about drug prices
why dont these pass
its the amount of money the drug companies put into
the campaigns against these referendums
does that make those who voted against it
no better than the politicians that take the drugs companies
political contributions

then
there was this graph i saw on line
it showed the voters based on their political beliefs
on the left the blue side
on the right the red side
they seemed to be equal
where the graphs overlapped in the middle
it was purple

it makes you realize thats where most of us are
its where the elections are won
in the middle
the middle seems to move to the blue or red side
differently each year

the other was a graph
that showed those who voted democrats are highest
amongst women
amongst non white folks
those who voted republican are highest
amongst white men

this could decide which way our country goes
in the future
since the non white numbers will continue to climb
the women and men numbers wont probably change much

it will be interesting to see how the political parties
will change themselves to survive in this trend

the solution to our political problems also may be
to allow only women to run government

also
i have found the solution to ending mass murders
only allow women to own and use guns

use it as a pay back for all those hundred of years women werent
allowed to vote
it would save lives and allow our government to run better

i know i said i was going to wait until the last day
but
something has happened to change my mind

we love to vote at our local voting place
its at a small community
at a small community center which use to be the old
high school gym
it seems and feels so country old school down to earth
when you go in there
to vote

its the essence we enjoy


however
i will be voting early today
in fact by the time some of you read this blog today
i will have already voted
done
over with

there is nothing anyone can say or do
there is nothing that can happen in the next week
im sure there will be more surprises left
that will or would have changed my mind
on how i will vote

i am sure that most of you are in the same boat
how can anyone not know how they are going to vote
i say
if you dont know how you will vote by now
then
dont vote

i saw an article this morning
that we should all look at
especially if you are a republican voter

our country can not survive if one party becomes
the overall dominant party

if only millennials were voting the democrats would win
over 400 electoral votes
if only nonwhite voters voted the democrats would win
every state in the union
if only women voters voted the democrats would win
over 450 electoral votes
if only men voters voted the republicans would win
if only white voters voted the republicans would win

however
over half the population are female
the millennials are the largest group of any age group
sorry baby boomers
the majority of voters will soon be nonwhite

this none of us can change

hopefully the republicans can look deep inside themselves
if they dont
they could be our whig party

the reason i decided to vote early
is that i got a phone call yesterday
from the alzheimers center
saying that i had passed the first hurdle for getting into the
aducanumab study

where i would receive an infusion if i dont get the placebo
that will remove the bad beta amyloid from my brain

this drug is the most promising drug that is being researched
that shows promise for curing this disease
or
at least slowing it down

next i have to go back up to dallas to have
240 ml of blood removed   its like donating a unit of blood
get interviewed by the neurologist heading up the study
get examined by him
have more memory tests

have an mri

have a amyvid pet scan that shows if i have bad beta amyloid
in the brain

i have to pass each step to go to the next one
if i pass the last one then
im in

im gonna do it

so i voted early to clear my schedule for all this testing
i want it all done asap

when people complain
to me about the government
i say did you vote
if they say no
then
i say

around here there is
a democratic county
and
a republican county
they sit side by side
its always for years been that way
of course demographics is changing that some

the amount of people who have early voted
is twice what it was so far than in previous elections

it looks like around here and in texas and around the country
i wont have to raise my hand much


each morning i read news headlines
spending almost an hour
reading articles on the news
sports politics medicine economics etc

so this morning
i spent about that hour looking for a good article
on this one topic
there was a lot of election stuff polling stuff entertainment stuff
sports finance medicine and health
but
nope
no where did i see an article on this story

i googled it
califronia national guard paying back bonuses

to me that was and should have been the top story
in the news
its a disgrace
its nonpartisan
at least it looks that way since both sides are ticked off about it
thank goodness its election time
so
they might do whats right

california national guard folks were promised bonuses
to reenlist or to make another tour to the middle east
bonuses of $20,000+-

they went
they served
some got purple hearts
some im sure got permanent injuries
serving our country

then they find out
we want the money back
pay up or well come and get it from you

some national guard folks illegally promised the bonuses
now uncle sam wants their money back

all i can say
is wrong
dont you dare do it
if they do we need to all join together as democrats republicans independents
to vote them out of office

it seems there is momentum growing to forgive the bonuses
sounds wrong doesnt it
forgive the bonuses

we and they need to just do whats right

DO DEBATES MATTER
thats the question i was asking myself
we watched all 90 minutes plus of the debates
we watched the pre show and the post show

i dont listen to pundits from either side
since i have a mute button on my remote
my
darwinian mute button

the reason we watch the debates
are
that we dont want to rely on someone elses opinion
on who won
what was discussed
was it fair
etc

ill decide that myself

now i realize that
the debate no matter what happened or what was said
was not going to change my mind on whom i was going to vote
nor
i doubt that many of you got your mind changed

now
looking at the debate
i think hillary won the debate
since
scattered across the new media and from politicians
who were trump supporters
agree with my assessment

did it matter
well it didnt change my mind
nor did it change most of everyone elses minds

it seems the ones that it could affect are
those millennials
yep yours and my kids and grandkids
may decide this election
scary huh

white women
see
i tell you they are always are under control those females
subtle like
if you are married and are a male
well you already know this

so
does it matter
these debates

i would say from what i hear and read
yes
it matters

the election may hinge on these next two debates

no i personally dont care if
he releases his tax returns
her emails i could care less about
i dont care about bills indiscretions since all know about them
i dont care about hearing childish words slug back and forth

i care about

how each treats other human beings

pensions which may break state and city government
guess who will be paying when that happens

healthcare
dont just say get rid of it
solution please
i for one am a big advocate of medicare for all
with a lot of tough decisions which our politicians cant seem to make

medicare

social security the big elephant in the room

immigration a fair policy please

taxes
sorry we have to have taxes
even fairminded billionaires recognize we have to tax people
just make it more fair
we cant cut taxes and keep spending

race relations

most of these werent even discussed

so thats what i want them to talk about
how to fix these issues

i want all the millennials to vote
its really thier future here we are talking about

they need to speak on their behalf

all those who say they are going to sit this one out
you cant do that
there is too much at stake

if you arent registered to vote
or if you dont vote
there is no excuse
you have no right to complain about anything

thats what i want to say to people
if you dont vote then quit complaining about things

now i have done early voting in the past
but i like to go to the polls on election day
it just feels different
theres usually a little bit of a circus going on
further away from the election place
a gauntlet you have to run

i just smile and move on
then i like waiting in line and talking to folks
i like talking to them and listening
not giving my voting decisions away
like to know what people are really thinking
is what i do

here are my thoughts on this midterm election

it looks like the republicans will win the congress
and its probably the democrats fault
for not showing up to vote and for not grabbing
some of the good things they have done

like yes healthcare
the republicans shied away from this one but the
democrats never took advantage of it
especially in states where its popular like
kentucky and arkansas

the economy which was in the tank when obama took
over
can you say almost a severe depression
and now its so much better
employment is down significantly
the stock market is real high
the housing market has recovered in most places

never heard them talking about this at all

financial protections for all us
things congress keeps taking away from us

mostly getting us out of the middle east wars
yep they never talked about these things

then im sorry but if you are a democrat you voted
for obama
if you are a republican candidate you voted for romney
just say so and quit making yourself look stupid

then
i agree with senator mary landrieu from louisiana
part of the problem with the lack of support amongst
white voters in the south is because he obama is black
quit attacking her since we who live her know
thats correct
just like part of the reason he has so much support
in the african american community is because he is
black

thats reality

then all that money thats poured into the elections
yes not our money but those rich folks
who go by the motto
the rich get richer the poor get poorer
buying our government is what they are doing
sorry
both sides are guilty
allowing this is the worst thing that has happened
to our democracy in years
its obscene

then finally we really really need a new party
an independent party
that has most of our interest at heart
since thats where most americans are in the middle

wouldnt it be nice to have a person to vote for
that is not holden to any party
not required to spit out the same rhetoric that is
programmed for them to say
maybe
really take the middle of the road on issues
instead of the far right and far left we have now

i think most of us whether democrat or republican or
independent are all tired of the inaction in washington
but heck we keep sending the same folks back
its our fault i guess

so even if the republicans win the congress
nothing is still going to get done
unless the sides start working together
so
it will be a do nothing congress again

so if you do complain to me about politics
the first thing i will ask you
whether you are a republican independent or democrat
did you vote
if you say no
then i will raise my open palm
and say

RED WHITE BLUE

there are red states
there are blue states
there are white states
those are the ones that havent decided yet
the swing states
mitts group and obamas group they know
which ones are which color

just follow the money and the ads
i live in texas
a red state
i know no matter how i vote mitt is going to win
thats the way it is
at least we dont have to listen to so many negative
ads for the presidential election this year
it doesnt really matter since texas is a red state
mitts going to win here

obama came here not to get votes for the presidential
election but to raise money
money thats whats making this years presidential
election perverse
obscene
the very very rich are going to determine who our president will be
that doesnt seem to bother people
rich get richer poor gets poorer and we in the middle
class just get screwed

if you live in california obamas going to win there
thats just the way it is
why waste money there if you are mitt

then there are the white states those swing states
nevada colorado new mexico ohio pennsylvania missouri
iowa michigan new hampshire virgina north carolina  florida
and wisconsin 
what a strange mixture of states that have no color yet
they dont seem similar


those white states will determine the next president 
what color red or blue they become is important
they also get to listen to all those negative ads
there the vote is really important in the presidential election 
not like here in texas


dont care 
im still going to vote
knowing that my vote for president really isnt going to
make a difference
its my duty and my right to do it
sure dont want to lose that right
