STAGECOACH ROBBERY
several years ago the cheap living guru clark howard
suggested changing your banking to a credit union

now at that time i was with the stagecoach bank
i had been with them for years
but
i noticed that i was started to get nickeled and dimed
with more nickling and diming going on every month

once
i calculated it was costing me close to $300+ a year
just to have a checking account with the well known
western bank

so
i changed to a credit union
i pay well i pay nothing for my checking account
i pay well i pay nothing for my savings account
i pay well i pay nothing for my checks
i pay well i pay nothing for my credit card
which since i am a dave ramsey fan
i rarely use it
if i do i get money back if i use it
i pay well i pay nothing for a debit card
which i do use a lot
since i never have cash in my pocket
but
when i do use my debit card i get cash back at the
end of the year

so
in summary
i pay well i pay nothing for my checking account
i make somewhere between $200 to $300 a year
on the cash back program

yesterday
i was watching the news
there was that consumer bulldog advocate
elizabeth warrren
chewing up that stagecoach ceo

i am sure his rear end was bloody
like a pit bull had grabbed ahold of his buttocks
and
wouldnt let go

when she finished with him
then
thank goodness for bipartisan  politics
the republican senators finished him off

we always need a bulldog in congress
who is on our side
protecting us

i realize some of you dont like all of her politics
but
you have to like her for what she is doing for us
the consumers
someone has to be on our side

so
as i watched her ream that ceo good
i thought
i am so glad several years ago
that i got off that stagecoach
and
changed to a better banking alternative

RAIN WATER
this is a rain water update from our last rain
we got 2.5 inches of a nice slow rain over several days
we dont get many like this here in cental texas
usually our rain comes down in buckets so fast that sometimes
it overflows the gutters and drainage system
not this time slow and easy
think we got every drop of rain

we now have over 10000 gallons of rain water collected for
our system for our house
thats half way of our total capacity
thats better than the 50 gallons we had left one day this summer
in the drought
this water would cost us $1000 if we had to have it delivered to
our tanks

it looks like the update on my guttering and drains are working well
and no apparent leaks are noted
now we just need more rain

this capacity will last my wife she and i about 6 months
hopefully well have more rain before then

we also have about 2000 gallons of rain water for our irrigation system
with over twice that capacity available
the garden watering uses that up fast when it s dry
almost all of the plants that we have left on our landscape gets no
supplemental watering
decided to let nature take its course and it did
now we have only the survivors left

BANKS
some of the megabanks got their credit ratings downgraded
well many of us had already downgraded them anyway
sure am enjoying my credit union

LIVE LONGER
here are things you can do to live longer
some dont need explaining

do yoga
go to the dentist
move to the country-my wife she and i can guarantee this helps
be checked for diabetes
grope yourself-no thats not a sexual suggestion but do self
          breast exam and self testicular exams
keep your brain active
walk-cost is zero for this gym membership, fresh air is good for you
stay married and youll live longer-well sometimes it just cant happen
laugh
be optimistic-know thats a tough one right now
get good sleep-dont take aricept if you want this one
limit portions-we eat too much
mediterranean diet-fruits, veggies, nuts, fish, olive oil, etc
get a pet-maybe not a python since they eat deer in florida
dont bring work home with you-a rule i followed the last years
          of my practice
strong relationship with your mom
drink red wine with moderation
control your blood pressure
protect your skin from the sun
get a good nights sleep

dang i feel better after writing and rereading this
i do all of these except for the good nights sleep which is affected
by the aricept-its a trade off im willing to make
im retired so i definitely dont take work home with me
maybe thats why i feel so laid back all the time

live longer its this easy

THE MARCH
today in oakland the occupy oakland march will happen
it will be a significant one
can it be done without violence
there are varied group of people involved
          school kids, school teachers, public employees, retired
          veterans, iraq/afghanistan war veterans, union workers,
          retired people, aarp types, collegestudents and other
          normal people
the whole nation is watching this one as it may be a good thing today
for the nation or it could turn into a bad thing for the nation
lets hope that everyone stays peaceful

cant wait for the campaigning next year
cant wait to see the tea partiers and the occupiers at the
campaign events together making sure the politicians know how
both sides feel
do it to both parties please as they both deserve it

this is the way our democracy works
just do it peacefully please

DID IT
well i did it
i am no longer banking at a megabank
dang that feels so good
i now have all my banking stuff at a local credit union
even dave ramsey uses a credit union for his banking
if its good enough for him its good enough for me
he did it before it was cool to do it

also dont forget your local and state banks as they are
usually not in the same class as the megabanks

i feel like i did when i quit smoking years ago
and it feels good
