WTEA UPDATE
heres the update on our wtea team for
saturday september 29 2012 at
georgetown texas

our goal is $5000 and we have raised $3100
so far
we have 20 team members and
have had 46 donors so far

we hope to reach our goal of $5000 and are
open to anyone who wants to walk with us
that day

DAMN PILL

one of the things i want to do with this blog is to
write about things as i go along with this possible
alzheimers disease while i can
as it progresses if it does i realize that my ability to
write this blog will gradually diminish

i quit those omega 3 pills not because of the recent
journal article questioning whether they help or not
but because they were big and because i was tired
of taking extra pills
i even quit my fiber pill also that ive been taking for awhile

i sure want to quit that dam pill that aricept (donepezil)
that im on because i might have earlyearly alzheimers
even though taking it may not really help me much
30% chance itll delay things 30% chance itll stay the same
and 30% chance it wont help at all

the biggest problem with that damn pill is that it
causes insomnia
sometimes i just cant sleep as can seen by my posting
of my blog sometimes
i compensate by my noon napping to make up for lost sleep
i guess it all comes out even sometimes
but it does interfere with what i like to do sometimes

my younger brother with alzhiemers takes his at night and
never had any problem with it
it was recommended that i take it in the morning so that it
wouldnt affect my sleep
that doesnt work well

so i decided this week after two sleepless nights to take
it at bedtime like my bro does

that was a mistake
i was wide eyed all night got 3 hours sleep and was ready to
post my blog that day at 230am

so ive decided to go back to the am taking of that damn pill
and try to limit my noon nap some to see if that would help
i also cut back some of my am coffee to see if that would
help and
worse have cut back some on my chocolate
thats the hardest to do though

i do exercise every day so that helps some
i have noted that if i do an all day work day here or at
the habitat for humanity house build that i sleep real good

i do think about all those demented patients who are taking this
pill though who cant verbalize the side effects they are having

damn pill guess for now ill just have to keep taking it

MY WAY
i think my wet suitcase sisterinlaw and my wife she sent me
this picture for a reason

LIVE LONGER
i read this article from yahoo health today on walking
its what ive been saying for several years
exericise doesnt have to be complicated or expensive

simply walking has big benefits
i use to encourage patients to walk 5 days a week for
30 minutes

according to this article here are the benefits

live longer-a 13 year study showed that people who walked
lived longer and spent less on health care

diabetes-walking at least 30 minutes a day can help
prevent type 2 diabetes which is increasing in the younger
as well as older population
if you have diabetes walking every day at least a mile can
decrease the risk of death from all causes by 50%

memory-there can be a decrease in memory decline in those
with alzhiemers who walk
it increases the grey matter in the brain which is the part that
shrinks with age and shrinks worse with alzheimers
you got it i try to walk every day

blood pressure-walking can significantly lower the blood
pressure
no copay for drugs     no side effects     no labs needed
to monitor side effects

bone health-walking can increase bone density
plus you get sunlight which increases your vitamin d levels

stroke-walking in one study decreased the incidence of
stroke by 50%

mood-you just feel better when you walk
one study showed walking worked better than antidepressants
and without those side effects

weight loss-walking regularly can burn off as much as 7 lbs a year
add calorie control to that and the weight loss is greater

insomnia-walking regularly in the morning can improve your
sleep at night

heart-walking by women can decrease their risk of heart disease by
30-40% and men by 50%

after reading this article ive got my walking shoes ready to go
so i can live longer with decreased chance of diabetes, high blood
pressure, stroke, heart disease, depression while having an
increase in mood, mental alertness, bone strength, and sleep

cost $0

OMEGA 3
was glad to see the latest report on omega 3
i gave them up several weeks ago
got tired of choking on those big pills and burping fish burps
all day

my pill box was so full
now i have more room to get them all in it
as i take aricept for possible alzheimers    lipitor and niacin  for cholesterol
aspirin for the heart and omeprazole for acid reflux
those two big ole omega 3 pills just didnt fit in there very well

this helps this doesnt, wtea, let him pitch first

THIS HELPS THIS DOESNT
im always looking for reasons to drink more caffeine
the problem is it interferes with my sleep because the
aricept (donepezil) i take for my mild cognitive impairment
does the same thing and the two together can make my
sleep hours go down significantly

in a recent study patients with mild cognitive impairment who
drank a large about of caffeine a day did not progress to dementia
where as those who didnt drink caffeine had an increased rate of
development of dementia

heck even in transgenic mice (whatever that means) they showed the
same thing

so for me itll be a pot of coffee in the am and good dark sees
chocolate candy for lunch and just hope i sleep at night
maybe thatll ward off the dementia

then theres omega 3
its found in fish chicken avocado nuts soy leafy green vegetables
and some fruits

one author claims that the incidence of dementia could be reduced
by 70%-thats what he claims
but it looks like that a diet with increased omega 3 may definitely
slow down the progression of dementia

apparently omega 3 reduces the amount of beta amyloid in the blood
thats the sticky substance that forms plaques in the brain that may
be the culprit in alzheimers disease

then what doesnt help with dementia or alzheimers is hospitalization
admit them and their chances of getting worse or dying increases
dramatically

even institutionalizing an alzheimers patient makes them worse
and increases the chances of things going down hill

granted thats the normal progression of the disease
when some one is institutionaled usually they have gotten worse already
put them in the hospital and they get worse

so drink lots of coffee and eat a lot of avos and fish and nuts and
dont let them put you in the hospital and your dementia will be
slowed down

LET HIM PITCH

the fans voted the mets r a dickey to be the starting pitcher in
the upcoming mlb all star game
the problem is he is a knuckleballer and throws this mean pitch
that is unpredictable and is hard for a catcher to catch as he
really doesnt know where the ball is going
the manager is thinking of not starting him but to use him in a
special situation
which means he wont pitch

i say let him pitch so we can see it for ourselves
after all its the all star game you guys
this may be a reason to watch the game this year
