the two best are

THE TWO BEST ARE
this is about the two best male athletes in the world
of course one of them is lebron james

imagine what he would be like if he had chosen football
as his sport of choice
apparently he was an unstoppable wide receiver
what kind of quarterback would he have been if he
had chosen to put the emphasis on that sport and that
position
can you imagine tackling him
think ben roethlisberger in a rg3 body
wow sure would have loved to see him play
or
what if he played defensive end
he would be the nemesis of all the qbs in the nfl

however he chose basketball and im sure glad
after watching him in the nba playoffs against the spurs
rebound
pass
shooting
point guard
defense
he did it all and did it better than the other players
he shut down tony parker the spurs point guard
it was almost unfair watching him guard parker

he is michael jordan magic johnson larrybird all rolled into one

the best male athlete in the world
lebron james

the second one i had barely heard of until this sunday
as he was on tv doing his sport
on discovery channel

ive been to the grand canyon and i cant imagine doing what he did
with the heat and the wind and the height he was above the river

granted he sounded like someone having a religious experience at
a old time revival meeting as he walked across the canyon on that
cable
either that or he sounded like someone in a bedroom

actually he apparently is very religious and this was a way he
calmed himself down

i know what i would have done
i wouldnt even have thought of doing that walking across that wire
never ever

as i watched him walk the wire with his shirt and pants legs whipping
in the wind i realized
he is a precision fine tuned athlete on lebron jamess level
there is no one better at what he does in the world or maybe ever

i do hope that he does not ever do this again
just take the money and run
youve got your wife and your kids
stop now please while you are ahead

im sorry but i can not ever watch you do this again
i cant take it

i watched every step and as you were doing it i said ill finish this
one but i will never ever do it again

his name is nik wallenda
he ranks with lebron james as the best in the world
except unlike lebron he needs to retire now

its not nascar, bumblebee football

ITS NOT NASCAR
in the us nascar is king but in the world grand prix formula one
racing rules
its like american football then theres world soccer

over 500 million people watched the formula one race
yesterday in austin texas on a cloud free sunny day
the inaugural race here

a total of near 120,000 filled the cirucit of the americus here
to watch the race
a total of 300,000 for the three days

here is a picture that was sent to me after i wrote about
zoom zoom last week

once on the 130 toll with its 85 mph speed limit and the
other on the speed of the formula one cars
some one said that what impressed them was the speed
that these car do in the straightaways

we were given grandstand seats for saturday
price $1000 each
we actually gave them away to two teenage kids who
are friends
what a day those two had there
after the race there there was a concert country western of
course to get people to hang around so that the numbers
leaving the track would not be as heavy

downtown they had a fun fest that was a success
my wife she and her fearless friend went in the mass of people
saturday night
sixth street was packed-if youve been to austin you know that street
what she noticed was there were so many foreign languages spoken
the crowds were not rowdy just a lot of fun
almost polite

the traffic was apparently well controlled
i guess with 500 buses hauling people back and forth that
helped a lot and helicopters

of course in austin some people biked there
they even had special lanes for the bikers
only in austin

now the airport is packed as people from all over the world
return to their countries
with a good impression of this area
heck one of the formula one race drivers decided to buy a
large ranch while he was here he liked it so much

what a great weekend for austin texas as it presented itself to
the world
more people were watching than were watching football yesterday

austin is ready for next year
maybe ill keep that ticket next year

BUMBLEBEE FOOTBALL

how embarrassing is it for those pittsburgh steelers to wear those
dang bumblebee uniforms
looks like they belong in a honey commercial
while some one sings the song buzz bobby buzz bobby

now that they lost last night maybe theyll retire those outfits

dang those cowboys they looked so bad but they won
guess thats what counts
wish they wouldnt mess with their fans like that

thanks baylor for beating kansas state
youve ticked them off for the rest of the season
especially when they play the longhorns

if i could pay to go watch one team this year
if i had a choice
i would go watch the washington redskins just to watch
rg3 do his magic
every time i see him play on tv it makes me sick that
the longhorns missed out on him when they tried to recruit
him as an athlete
im sure he was insulted
he paid texas back though the last two years he played them
yep rg3 is the real deal
lebron and rg3 are the two athletes i would like to see live
(well actually i have seen both live)

alzheimers quiz, he did it

ALZHEIMERS QUIZ
a recent study showed that the 21 question alzheimers quiz has
a very good diagnostic accuracy
its one you can fill out for a family member or friend and hand
it to their doctor
remember many times early on people can be having problems
that in a few minutes of a doctors office will not be recognized

dont be afraid to be aggressive and do this for their doctors
i like others feel the earlier you know theres a problem
the better

it takes 3 minutes to complete and is easy to interpret
you can probably do it on yourself
it will pick up most cases of mild cognitive impairment and
almost all cases of alzheimers disease

now days if you find a positive alzheimers quiz
you can do a neuropsychological test and
do screening labs and
do a beta amyloid pet scan (first available commercial one
is amyvid)
if the labs are neg and the neuropsych test is positive and
the amyvid scan shows there are significant amyloid deposits
then you or the patient probably have alzheimers disease

one thing ive told people who ask is dont be passive about all
of this with family members or friends
dont be afraid to hurt their feelings
get them evaluated
treatment available like aricept (donepezil) can slow things down
and
the social side of this terrible disease can be attacked early
there is a window of time between early diagnosis and full blown
disease that can be a time to be enjoyed by the patient and their
family
like someone with terminal cancer who is on chemo to slow the disease
down so that they can have more time with their family

dont be shy about getting evaluations done

HE DID IT
lebron and the heat did it
he finished with a flurry
a triple double
this may be one of several they win

right now there are only two players i would pay to
watch play
kevin durant and lebron james
yes he was the king in this series
they just need to crown him now

summer soltice, chickener, lebron

SUMMER SOLSTICE
today is summer solstice
the first day of summer
the days start to get shorter starting today
thank goodness

we wish we were in santa barbara for their summer solstice celebration
they have every year
think mini mardi gras celebration
last year we were getting ready for our older sons wedding there
and got to go to the solstice parade

when we were touring the anasazi indian ruins we came upon
a anasazi calender laid out on the top of a hill
and one of the markers marked the summer solstice

the indians knew then about the solstice
our friend db has been to the site on summer solstice and has
verified that the marker is accurate with an archaeologist

lets celebrate summer solstice even if you cant be in santa
barbara today because
here come the dog days of summer in texas

CHICKENER
i am a chickener
if you are a chickener you know it
if you would like to be a chickener and live in central texas
i suggest you go to this talk on raising chickens by carol ann
from boggy creek farms this weekend at the natural gardener

here is a blog she wrote on the lecture
read it
she is a witty writer as well as an excellent organic gardener and
chickener

join the chickener movement

LEBRON
lebron jamess performance last night reminded me of michael jordans
performance that time when he was ill with high fever but still
had a fantastic game

near the end of the game lebron overcome with leg cramps went
back in the game and scored a three point shot that may have
helped seal the game for the heat

ive seen athletes with severe leg cramps
heck i get them all the time especially at night
as they are a side effect of the aricept (donepezil) that im on
i cant imagine playing basketball with one of those things
my leg feels like someone beat it with a baseball bat the
next day

he should have been drinking gatorade to stay hydrated
hope he recovers enough to play tomorrow night
as he desires this nba championship
maybe the naysayers will quit whining about him now

severe dehydration that causes muscle cramps has the possibility
to cause a rise in muscle enzymes from damaged muscles which
can overload the kidneys as they try to filter out those enzymes
the athlete can get kidney failure from this
the secret is to stay hydrated before and after games

bet he got ivs last night
good luck on recovery today

siblings, lebron, birthday

SIBLINGS
most of us have siblings
we have 8 kids in our family
all are usually recognizable at a distance
as we all have grey hair
that usually stands out because of it whiteness

as we all get older
ive noticed that we all are starting to look alike
especially we look like one or both of our parents
funny how that happens as we get older
everything changes

was able to spend memorial day with 3 of my siblings
we were able to do a lot of visiting and ate food
that we love
guess your would call it soul food
but it was good ole nutritious soul food

we were able to visit for several hours together
something we dont get to do very often
old memories discussed
catching up on family and family matters
then of course there was some nap time involved

all in all
a great day with three of my siblings
siblings
maybe we all should stop and enjoy our siblings
while we can

LEBRON

ok hes the man
hes the best nba player
not sure how another team can really stop him
hes such a powerful athlete and can do so many things as a basketball
player
theres not another one like him
he might just win a title this year
look forward to the rest of the games

BIRTHDAY

today is my nephews birthday-#21
hes the one i pick on in this blog some
the one that didnt fall in the rainwater tanks last year
he still has that rock to get out of that tank for me
happy birthday dude

more hope, nba

MORE HOPE

this is a picture of my wife she and i with hook em
the mascot from the university of texas
just before the baylor ut football game in november 2010

(this is a few days before i had my eventful trip to the
ut southwestern for my initial neuropsychological exam
to enter the adni 2 study
little did i know what was coming
it was also the day rg3 stuck it to the longhorns)

inside that mascot uniform is a special person
(youll see him in this uniform on espn this fall on some commercials)
that has it
you know it when you see it
this kid has it

he is the son of friends of ours
hes graduated from the mccombs business school this month
and will be working in finance at a non large bank company
in new york
he was asked to fix the financial mess while he was there
he said he would work on it for me

we went to his graduation party and met several of his friends
who had also just graduated
they all had jobs already
thats better statistically than the average graduate today

after spending time with these students i must say
that our future is in good hands

yes there is
hope for the future

NBA
dang i love watching nba playoff basketball
watched lebron go off on the pacers on sunday
what an athlete

then theres the plodding along spurs just getting it done
and no ones paying much attention
its either duncan or the coach or both as they are
always there without any flash

i decided what they need to do is just get rid of the regular
season and just have the playoffs
they play half a season anyway in the playoffs and
the players really dont  play real hard until the playoffs
and do they get chippy with each other or what

by the 7th game of a series they are usually tired of
playing each other

spurs vs okc
plodders vs the gazelles
then who knows what will happen in the eastern division
should be a good next few weeks of games

that was tiring, dreams, draft, playoffs

THAT WAS TIRING

i worked over forty hours last week on the habitat for
humanity house
that was tiring
the mornings were ok but as the day went on it got hot

i now have a lot of respect for those construction workers
who do this every day all year round in all kinds of weather
especially those guys who are older

i will say that i slept the best i have slept in a long time
the aricept insomnia was overcome with marked fatigue
(interesting also was that i did  not have any of my aricept
dreams last week)

so now ive found a drug free treatment for insomnia
no rx, no cost
work your a$$ off every day or substitute a good exercise program
it worked well for me
no side effects except for sore muscles and some scrapes and
bruises and some areas of sunburn
but it was worth it

DREAMS

if you read this blog some you know i have aricept dreams
thats vivid dreams that are the side effect of aricept (donepezil)
that i take for my diagnosis

heck yesterday i took a noon nap and i ninjaed a whole room
full of intruders in my bedroom

but last night i had an interesting dream
i went away on a retreat where a lot of my old medical school
classmates were there
interesting was that i recognized them all and they all had been aged
so that i saw them like they would look today 30 years later
you know like what you see when you take a computer program to
age someone

wonder how accurate it was

DRAFT
i enjoyed the nfl draft
ok i was so exhausted from working at the habitat house that i slept
through it all but i did read about it and watched the dvr of some of it
the cowboys did ok in the draft
they got an animal for their defensive backfield
a honey badgers buddy

i cant wait to see andrew luck play and rg3 play this year
sorry andrew youre going to take a beating this year
rg3 you should fair better in the trauma area

it just seemed to be a better draft this year and seemed more
exciting to watch

now we have to wait 4 months until we can watch it on tv again
thats the hard part

PLAYOFFS
the nba playoffs started this weekend
the two teams to beat it seems now that chicago wont make it
is miami and oklahoma city
unless the lakers really kick in good
and if the spurs age hits them in the later rounds

the most valuable player is lebron james
why
he does everything for his team and plays all positions
kevin durant is the second choice

cant wait to watch the playoffs as they progress
