MY BRACKETS

each year i look forward to march madness
the ncaa mens basketball tournment
especially now that all the games are on tv

now we dont have to be watching a good game
then they switch over to some other game
so you dont get to see the end of the first game

that use to just tick me off
now if that happens its my fault since we can see all
of them
and since we have dvr so we can record games
if
we are gone or if we have two games on at the same
time we want to watch

we means mostly me but my wife she is a good sports fan
with two boys and a husband who love sports she sort of
didnt have too much choice

i sorta of put things off i need to do so i can see several games
as they are shown day and night

just like at peoples work my productivity drops off a lot
during this march madness

i printed out my bracket and filled it out
here is some of the results
i am putting it on the record for all to see so that i cant
be accused of cheating on my brackets

my final four teams are
florida
virginia
oklahoma state
louisville

finals
florida
louisville

i wanted to pick wichita state but i didnt because theres no way
anyone will go through the year undefeated
i predict they will get beat by louisville

oklahoma state has a good team that fell apart but seems to be
kicked in and have a lot to prove
if they can get past arizona they have a good chance to make it

iowa state the big 12 winner is playing as well as anyone but they
have to go through virginia
if im wrong ill be happy

the sleeper team i want to watch is
stephen f austin from texas
not because they are from texas but because they are good
too bad they would have to go through florida
they wont make it past this weekend

my texas team made it this year
they have played badly recently
i predict they will beat arizona state but wont make it past michigan
maybe next year as all their team will be back

kudos to the big 12 with its 7 teams that got in
what happened to the sec huh aggie fans
guess football just took over huh

so my wife she knows not to make any social commitments
during this time
if you happen to call me during the games expect the calls to go
to voicemail

ill call you back on april 8 when this is all over

oh yes i predict gator nation will be very happy again

basketball

BASKETBALL
i watched a lot of basketball over the last few weeks
i especially enjoyed the march madness
only got one of the final four teams right
and didnt pick the winner
miami didnt make it

maybe ill just keep that miami choice for the nba championship game

sure enjoyed watching louisville play
that up tempo pressing game that you dont see as much as you
use to
ala razorbacks with rollin nolen when he won the whole thing
years ago then couldnt keep his mouth shut and got fired

the louisville guards were worth watching
it was amazing how they seemed to at will go through all the other
teams defense and seemed to score at will
those little guys didnt seem to get their shots blocked a lot

it also helped to have the big guy in the back to swat away balls
and play defense and to score when needed

yep those 3 will do well in the nba


then connecticut women are such a young team but they won
(so texas mens basketball that aint an excuse-a young team)
think dino is a good coach
its scary for the other teams as they will have the same team for the
next few years
especially now that brittany is out of the way

then in the nba ive been following the lakers all year and listening to
all the trash talk by the sports gods who said that the lakers would
have a losing team and wont make the playoffs

ticked kobe off is what they did
he was really kicking butt until last week when that pop happened
that achilles tendon sound

not sure how he was able to shoot the free throws afterwards

a few years ago while playing softball while rounding 3rd base i heard
that pop and watched as my foot seemed to dangle and wouldnt
respond to my trying to run
i did score however

two months on crutches then since that time my calf on that size is smaller
than the other
theres a long scar up my ankle where the achilles tendon is
i cant jump very high well i cant jump period
i cant run well either limited by that old achilles tendon tear

now kobe had his repaired and will start rehabbing it when he gets off crutches
will he loose calf mass
loose his ups
lose his burst of speed

i hope he does a better job of rehabbing than i did
if he doesnt
his career is over

sometimes its over anyway with an achlles injury
you lose a lot of the advantage you have over the other players
except of course
that will and determination he seems to have
time
it will tell

prediction
lakers will lose all their playoff games without kobe

then i watch the spurs
they just plod along and nobody notices they are there
then bam like emeril
they are in the playoffs and in the contention for the final game

go spurs go
however
like i said at the beginning
its miami winning it all

cyclotexting, basketball

CYCLOTEXTING
cyclotexting is a new word that i made up after i heard this story
below

pedexting is where people text while walking
philadelphia as an april fools joke opened a pedexting lane on
one of its sidewalks and will leave it there for a while
theres the video of the lady pedexting into the water fountain and the
story of the lady that pedexted off the wharf into the water

well now there is
cyclotexting
cyclotexting surely not this
who would text while riding a bicycle
lance wouldnt do that

well my wet suitcase sisterinlaw would
there is always an adventure or story when they come to visit
last time it was the wet suitcase story
she still wont let me and her poor husband live that one down
she even didnt read my blog for weeks because of the blog i
wrote about madonnas half time show
still didnt like it and she still liked it

so my sisterinlaw the wet suitcase one and her husband were on
a bicycle ride (she didnt have a helmet on so theres your sign there)
she was riding in a rural like area and decided she would
text her friend while bicycling and wish her a happy birthday
bad bad bad mistake

as she was passing this family all by the themself in a park enjoying
their nice picnic lunch she started coasting and began texting her
friend
as she did her foot slid off the pedal into the spokes of the
front wheel
if youve ever done that before you know what happened next
its like slamming the brakes on your car
you stop fast
her foot was stuck
it hurt real bad
somehow her friend was on the phone and could hear it all
she thought my wet suitcase now cyclotexting sisterinlaw was
dying

her foot had to be extracted from the front wheel by her poor
husband and the guy who was eating the picnic lunch with his
family

her foot began to swell and instantly looked like as she described
it it would explode it was so big

her husband jumped on his bike to ride the two miles to their house
to get the car so he could come back and pick her up
when he got there she had the keys
he had to ride back and get the keys

oh honey my foot is going to just explode

he finally got the car and brought her home

the poor family who was doing the picnic packed up and went home

luckily her son was with a friend whose dad was a foot specialist
no broken bones were present just a bad crush injury

im sure no one else has ever done this before
so i googled images of texting while bicycling
and yep
there are a lot of those people out there

kentucky won
kansas tried to come back but couldnt catch up
kentucky is one and done
they will have to reload again next year

WON LOTTERY

on early sunday morning 

honey honey wake up 

i just won the lottery

dreamyeyed she looked at me and smiled

then went back to sleep

never registered with her what i said and

that it was april fools day 

i like 100 million of americans bought a lottery ticket for

this weekends mega million drawing

the odds of winning was the same as me creating earth

but i did it anyway 

then i dreamed of what i would do with the money 

did you do that too

you did didnt you

lets see as we are almost totally debt free and only owe a small

amount on a car that has 0% interest wouldnt even pay that off

would fix that fence of mine that i have been putting off fixing 

and yes i would pay someone to finish it

thats worth the money 

wonder if i would be lke those other people who won and just

squander it off on all kind of things and then die broke

dont think i would do that

heres what i would do if i won 200 million

gosh thats one good baseball player and 

its lebron and dwyane (he spells his name wrong) together

thats 20% of a sports franchise

first i would sit down and write a big check to uncle sam 

i know hes going to get a big chunk anyway so would want 

to get that out of the way

dont want him messing with me

then i would take 50% of whats left and invest it similarly to 

what i have my iras etc invested in now and live off what it 

produces

if you cant live off 4-5 million a year then just forget about it

then i would take the other 50% and place it in a foundation 

to try to do some good in this world

i might even fund the womens health clinics in the state of texas

since we cannt seem to do that now

and yes they would give out free contraceptives

those institutions and charities that have been good to me over the 

years would get the bulk of the funding

i might even be like warren and bill and just give it all away to the 

foundation

well i would let my wife she have some of it 

she after all deserves it

my brackets for the march madness got all busted up on
the first day
dang duke and mizzu
you really screwed up my brackets

then that guy who plays for syracuse got removed off the team
really screwed me up
i had picked them for winning it all

is it ok to pick a new winner

my sweet 16 is a sour 16
i picked correctly 9 of the 16
thanks to ky, indiana, baylor, michigan state, louisville, syracuse
ohio state, north carolina, and kansas for helping my brackets out

ohio how did they get in there
oops they have to play north carolina

my final four picks were duke michigan state syracuse and kansas
maybe ill get one right

HABITAT
i am still working on the habitat house
the future home owner is excited
its really looks like a house now
at least from the outside
inside we still have to finish the floors
do the final painting inside
the cabinets are almost all in place

estimated move in is about 1 month
my wife she and i will put in her keyhole square foot garden soon
will post pictures of it when its done as well as post
a picture of the house

you should consider volunteering at your local habitat where
you live
the ones who seem to really benefit a lot are the high school
kids and college kids who work there

sure makes me feel good about the future of our country
when i work with these kids
i know some of these will be leaders wherever they end up
living

i actually took the week off from blogging
and posted my most popular blogs from the last two years

the blogs were hard for me to read as i realized how i was
blindsided by all what happened and how much it really affected
me and how much it still affects me when i read about it

although im sad all this has happened im not sorry it happened the
way it did as i probably would be drifting along in life not knowing
until something happened that would be tragic for someone else
and for myself

the future is being planned and my wife she and i will be as
ready as we can be
it will be harder on her as i probably wont know whats going on
just what things to be ready for her
help her out when the time comes

dental care, mri, nba

DENTAL CARE
am doing my least favorite thing today
thats going to the dentist
last year i had two wisdom teeth removed
that sucked big time
glad i wasnt awake when they got them out
something about a chisel and pliers was spoken
but i never asked questions
sure hurt like hell for several days
he told me it wouldnt hurt much but gave me a prescription
for 30 vicodin
that should have been a sign of what was coming

then last year i had to have a new crown put on then after
that had to have a root canal on that same tooth
again that sucked big time
glad i had some of that vicodin laying around

well today
i have to go back to get two new crowns put on
except i remember last year and am not looking forward to
when that numbing medicine wears off and when i stop
slobbering and slurring my speech
then the real pain begins
got me some vicodin left over to use if i need it
maybe that oral surgeon just knew what was in store for me
over the next year

just sayin

seriously
dental care is the entry to good health
brush twice a day
floss each tooth  each day
talking to you my wife she
seek dental care annually or twice a year
we do twice a year dental cleaning
promised my last now retired dentist i would do this after i
waited 5 years to see him and came in with a mouth full of problems

it is sad though that less than 50% of americans get regular dental care
of course a lot of dental insurances are not very good
like the one we have

take care of your teeth they are the soul of your health

MRI
had the 6 month followup mri last week and got the report today
this is the 4th mri ive had in the last year
it was normal
this mri for the study is a volumetric mri that is officially read
as part of the adni study using a special computer program that
measures the volume of the brain and especially the hippocampus
where atrophy can occur early on in alzheimers disease

this mri may be one of the tools that is used soon to pick up early
changes in mild cognitive impairment amnestic type and early
alhzheimers disease

next one is in 6 months then will have one every year after that

NBA
beware beware
remember what happened to he nhl
when they lost the whole season
remember you are the number 3 sport in the usa
you have a lot to lose
you dont want to be number 4 or 5 in the future

people are having a lot of financial issues themselves and
are not real tolerable of watching you fight over money

remember you are in the 1% not the 99% like the rest of us

think ill just enjoy those other professional basketball teams
college basketball

in the line in the store the cashier told the little old lady the  plastic
bag wasnt good for the environment
the little old lady apologized as she said they did not have the green
thing back in her day

thats right back then they did not have the green thing in her day
they returned their milk bottles, coke bottles and beer bottles back
to the store
the store sent them to the plant to be washed, sterilized and refilled
the bottles were used over and over again
so they really were recycled

but they didnt have the green thing in her day

in her day they walked up the stairs because they did not have
elevators in every store and office building
they walked to the grocery store and did not climb into a 300 hp
machine to go just 2 blocks

shes right though
they didnt have the green thing in her day

back then they washed the babys diapers because they did not
have throw away diapers
they dried clothes on the line not in some energy burning machine
gobbling up 220 volts -wind and solar power really did dry their
clothes
kids got hand me down clothes from their brothers and sisters and
not always brand new clothes (had 7 siblings so always had hand
me downs-was glad i was in the middle and not in the end of the
line-although they would be torn holey and stained by then now
days they would be styling)

but the little lady was right they did not have green in her day

back then they had one tv or radio in the house-not a tv in
every room
the tv screen was the size of a small pizza dish and not the
size of the state of montana

in the kitchen they blended and stirred by hand because they did
not have electric machines to do everything
when they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail they wrapped
it with wadded up newspapers not bubble wrap or styrofoam

back then they did not fire up an engine and burn gasoline to cut
the lawn but instead used a push power that ran on human power
they exercised by working so they did not have to go to a health
club to to run on treadmills that operate on electricity

but shes right they did not have the green thing back then

they drank from a fountain when they were thirsty and did not use a
cup or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water
they refilled pens with ink (boy that was messy never could get that
done right) and they replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of
throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull
(also they use to take the razor blade and sharpen it by rimming it
around the edge of a glass)

but they did not have the green thing back then

back then people took the street car and kids rode their bikes to
school or rode the school bus instead of turning their moms into a
24 hour taxi service
they had one electric outlet in a room and not an entire bank of
sockets to power a dozen appliances
they did not need a computerized gadget to receive a signal
beamed for satellites 2000 miles out in space in order to find the
nearest pizza joint

but they did not have the green thing back then

days 8-12, bb, try again

DAYS 8-12
well we finally finished the trip to santa barbara
if did not like texas so much would live in santa barbara
the weather is always about the same
never to hot and never to cold (not like we get in texas and
nothing like the northern states)

they actually get less rainfall than we do here in texas
and we dont ever get enough
think that the moisture from the ocean probably helps a lot
and the lack of extreme heat
many people dont have air conditioning there
can you imagine no ac in central texas

my wet suitcase sister in law she (the one we were visiting in
santa barbara) says that the worse thing to be in this world
 is a black cow in texas in the summer time

we mostly vegged out there
watched several basketball games
toured the beaches
watched my nephew he (brother of my rain water tank
nephew he) in a play that he  was in
he sings, dance, acts in the play
he also plays soccer, loves soccer, and beats everyone at
soccer video games
he also sings with andrea bocelli on some of his christmas
specials
has been on tv several times with the specials-hes the blond kid
that sings in the group with andrea bocellli

thanks to the wet suitcase sister in law shes  and my mother in law
shes hospitality (especially for the sees candy-yum yum)

as usual got plantings of plants from their yard to try to grow here
well see if they grow

my wife she attended a wedding journey event but i did not
have to participate-yes
spent quality time with my older son he all afternoon
enjoyed that

we ate at two great restaurants there
one was trattoria mollie in montecito california
the food was italian and was excellent
this is where my son he and his finance she will have their wedding
party meal before the wedding
she cooks some for oprah and has cooked for the obamas in the
white house
she is a interesting story-a self made women who trained in italy
and has had this restaurant since the early 1990s
one of jeff bridges recommended restaurants

the other is a place we always have to eat at when we go
to santa barbara
its real fresh authentic mexican food
the la super rica taqueria
trip is never complete unless we eat there
usually there are long lines outside especially on weekends
always a good side of good food

we finally have made it back to texas
we had a great time
wished we had spent more time on hwy one but know we will
have more chances in the future to do it again but maybe not
where that road fell in
know that sometime in the future may not remember it though

when we got off the plane though in texas i kneeled down
and kissed the ground
was glad to be back

tonight baylor plays texas am
its big and tall vs stocky
should be a good game
can baylor beat am 3 times in one year

uconn plays duke-hope they play better if they want to win another
championship

stanford won and is in the final four
notre dame beat tennessee
sure wanted to see tennessee play ucon as know those
coaches dont like each other
maybe next year

TRY AGAIN

broke schools, mood foods, bb tonight, gas

BROKE SCHOOLS
so the school district where my wife she works is going broke
they have 5 high schools that are about 2500 students in each
school, 3 times the number of middle schools and a gazillion
number of elementary schools just to give you an idea of
the size of the district

they are $60 million in the hole

lets see where will they make cuts

lets see
fire teachers
fire librarians
fire administration employees
close schools no apparently not an option
have hiring freeze
increase class sizes-boy wont those kids have fun with all those
extra classmates to play with-can see it now with paper wad
fights, food fights in cafeteria (heck get rid of cafeterias then wont
need cafeteria workers), etc

fire all the older experience teachers and hire all new ones
there are plenty of new ones that cant get jobs
big savings there

lets see raise money by
closing a school(s) and leasing it out to a new business

selling the huge athletic complex or rent it out to some poor
college that cant afford such a huge complex-theres
$15 million plus
ads on buses as mentioned before in a previous blog
add google ads that change regularly
maybe get some controversial ads to raise bus ad awareness

get rid of all extracurricular activity so the kids are on their own
after school-am sure they can think of some good things to get
involved with

charge the kids if they want to get involved in anything at school
like a history club fee, germain club fee, latin club fee, bathroom
fee, etc

get rid of all libraries and just let the teachers use the internet
heck the kids could just do the same

have a cell phone usage fee to use the cell phone at school
increase the fines on using the cell phone during class
heck let kids use the cell phones for their textbooks
there some big savings there and there would not be any
more controversy over what goes in to the textbooks

heck have the teachers do the cleaning of their rooms and the
hall ways in front of their classes and the nearest bathroom and
the windows near their class rooms

charge students to park using meters instead of stickers so more
money can be made, write them tickets and make them pay them,
haul the cars off if not paid and charge to get them back, and work
out a deal with the local towing companies for a cut

get rid of all sports teams and make it all intramural and club
sports like lacrosse does
then charge fees for using the schools facilities for those sports
and activities (just dont be poor or you cant play)

another thing that would be helpful would be to have a governor
and legislature that put the crisis in schools-its a crisis that will
affecta whole generation and affect our economy-as their number
one priority

no lets see their two top priorities this session are making women
look at fetuses right before they have an abortion with an ultrasound
and
making people have a picture id before they vote
both will end up in court and will cost the state a lot of money to
defend as the cases march through the courts
got to get ready for that presidential run

heck even raise taxes, take back that 2% fica tax im not paying,
raise income tax, and cut spending, make the schools and state
do some belt tightening

we did at our house even though we make a good income
as we try to look ahead into the future and be prepared for the
worse

if they tap all of the rainy day funds what do the schools do when
it stops raining then they are back to where they were

there is an answer somewhere

where i live
think thats a first here (know its common elsewhere but not
texas)
its a mental thing
we are over the edge when it gets to $3.00
next will be $4.00 and people will drive less and commute
together more and ride buses and trains more and bikes and
walk
dont think so not in texas
texans will go broke resisting all those things

BB TONIGHT
its aggies vs horns
aggies known for their football are better at basketball
than football now for several years
just ask texas
horns play at aggie land tonight
a real raunchy place to play
its the pit
if only texas had a place like that to play basketball at
horns may be wore out as they just had a stretch where they beat
3 of the top 20 teams in the last several days and play
their 3rd game in 5 days
if they win this one the horns are definitely definitely
good this year-just watch them and youll see they are good

more dreams, another test, basketball fever

DREAMS
my oh my those dreams
this is legal tripping
man cant dvr them
got to figure out how to do that
maybe hypnosis

last night i was an emergency room doctor again
worked emergency rooms moonlighting as a resident and
when in full practice worked them  until 15 years ago
also did emergency room work full time for 2 years

this is my second emergency room dream
the person that took over my shift in my dream was
my attorney that i use for all my legal matters
everyone one says that if you go to court you want
him on your side and not on the other side

i guess attorneys would make good doctors since they
sometimes control what we do in medicine
we all practice defensive medicine some of the time
probably if we did not do that we would save people and
the health care system a  lot of money

many doctors may not admit that
some of it is subconscious

if we just followed guidelines based on scientific evidence
then we should not have to worry about defensive medicine
but thats not how the system works

well guess i dont have to worry about that now

ANOTHER TEST
so theres another screening test ive came up with for cognitive
decliine
first this week was the sage test, then dr ozs test, and now the
togd password test

when i do this blog and go through various email accounts,
facebook accounts, news accounts, blog monitoring accounts,
bank accounts, etc i use 10-12 different passwords

think that if i start forgetting those passwords then its a sign
that i may have more cognitive decline

do think about it when i type in a password and it gets rejected
and do it again and it gets rejected, oh no got 1 more chance........
whew the caps button was on

now where did i write down those passwords

BASKETBALL FEVER
about to turn away from football now
the pro bowl is this week i think
they should play it after the super bowl when we are all in
football withdrawal
super bowl next week then thats it until august, but maybe
not for the pros

have decided now that im retired im going to splurge and
buy the march madness package and watch all the games
on tv unless the new programming on cbs, espn, tbs, and
tnt shows all the games

glad the wedding is not during that time
