DREAM A little DREAM

i am on a roll
dreamin like crazy

why just last night when i was working in the
emergency room as an add on doctor for the
night since they were expecting a busy night
in the emergency room
this guy
this truckdriver
he needed to move his semitruck across the highway
so he could go through the check out line those trucks
have to go through with the highway partrol

he couldnt drive
right now i cant remember why
but in the dream it was explained to me why
so
i got in the big semi
backed that thing back
going north
then drove it over the median
you know where you arent suppose to go
but the police do it all the time
so
i ued it
where i turned there was a big trench deeper
then the truck
as i was uing the wheels on one side dropped
into the trench
down down into that trench it went
it luckily didnt turn over
it just slid kerplunk into the trench
all wedged in like it was in a box
so
the truckdriver swapped places with me
so i wouldnt get in trouble
then
i went back across the highway
back to working in the er
then
in walked the highway patrol
they asked me a lot of questions
i knew for sure
i was in trouble
but
then
i just woked up
solved that dream didnt i

i told them
just call tom hell get that truck out of there

now im on a dream roll
im not sure why
these dreams quite vivd at times
i call my aricept dreams
the medicine i started 8 years ago for alzheimers
has this side effect

i do realize though
that these dreams are part of the disease process
as it progresses
just hoping thats not why

sometimes i think it might be better not to know too much

some nights im having three dreams a night
if i happen to wake up twice during the night
thats three vivid almost real dreams
that i can never finish

i thought about it a lot this week
when that teenager that they were going to harvest his
organs for donation since he was brain dead
he woke up
then described this death dream he had

then
i read where yale is going to do this death dream research
i call it where brains will be kept alive outside the body
they are using pigs
so i guess all they can do is dream and thats it
sounds creepy to me

thats what my dreams feel like sometimes
like my brain is out of my body

lucky for me
many times in my dreams i do something that wakes me up
why just this weekend
i was in my high school gym in mt holly
demonstrating how i could go up and over a tall person
and
do a one handed left hand dunk
as i dunked i heard this loud thunk
i completed the dunk in my dream
but
woke up quickly

there on the other side of the bed was a throw pillow
laying where it bounced off the wall

i was saved again
from
the confines of my dream

since i have been taking aricept (donepezil) for possibly having
alzheimers
my dreams are much more vivid than before
its like the difference between a facebook video you post
and a full length oscar winning movie

it seems they are happening more often and always seem to
incorporate something ive experienced in the last two days
what these dreams mean i dont know
but im sure i could just google it and mr google would
give me an answer

yesterday i worked outside in the heat cutting trees down at
our new habitat house
almost fell a tree on a house but i didnt
i was gassed when i finished
but i kept hydrated while i was working
following my 2 pee rules
if you dont have to go pee twice in the morning while working
outside then you are not staying hydrated
i usually start hydrating as soon as i wake up on the days
like yesterday then continue it aggressively while working
no heat stroke for me

then
i went to another house we are doing a rehab on for
this little poor lady
i finished putting down a yard of mulch on her yard after
trimming out all the brush from her crepe myrtle and roses
i was sure that was years of growth in there
they even found her ac was blowing cold air into her attic
thatll make you electric bill high want it

so by the time i went home i was hot and exhausted
ate my lunch
then off to sleep for my afternoon nap to make up for the
few hours that aricept stole from me the night before

my oldest son who was two years old and i were staying at
some big hotel somewhere big
like a big casino or a big convention place
my wife she was out of town
he woke up from his nap and even though he was no longer
on the breast or the bottle
there was a baby bottle in the frig with milk or formula in it
he wanted it to drink
so i gave it to him you know do the im not going to argue with
him thing
we had to go outside somewhere to do something
since i didnt finish that part i didnt know what it was

out the room we go down the hall to the elevator
with him following me sucking on his bottle
he seemed quite content and happy following me down the hall
onto the elevator we went
kinda cute he was

he was behind me in the elevator looking up at the other folks
on the elevator
asmiling he was
they were asmiling at him also

then the door opened i stepped out a few steps
turned around and he wasnt there
the doors closed
i ran around looking both ways to see if he got loose in the hall
then went back on the elevator to where we came from
frantically asking folks if they saw this 2 year old with a bottle
anywhere
went downstairs to the desk
looked everywhere
then i woke up with no answer to my dream

thanks a lot aricept for this one
it may be one of the most worst ones yet
and
thanks for invading my noon time naps with these dreams

i googled the dream and it wasnt of any help
except it said something about fertility and the birth of a new child

i am on a run of dreams
that occur now when i nap and when i sleep at night

they are all triggered from the side effect of aricept (donpezil)
that i take for possible alzheimers

i don t know why they have increased in degree lately
and why they are so vivid
ok i dont really care
as generally i enjoy them as usually they are pleasant
and nondisturbing
usuallly

a google search found one researcher who
said it activates the visual association cortex during rem sleep
boy does it ever make stuff real vivid

like last week when that lady dressed like an antebellum southern
belle who was like a witch
was drifting along the walls of our bedroom
i tried to warn my wife she but i couldnt wake up enough
to yell and scare that wench away the bellle not my wife she

i was paralyzed it felt like but i woke with a start
swinging my arms and yelling hey hey get the hell out of here

i turned over and there my wife she was
sound asleep
i didnt need to make such a scene after all
so
i went back to sleep

so the donepezil enhances the rem sleep to make things
more vivid
think legal lsd
tripping out every night
heck
last night i was stuck on this pedestal over the ocean
it was real high
too high to jump
but i had to get down because the time was out and we
all had to leave
why i was there and why we had to leave i dont know
just tripping was all i was doing

taking it in the morning makes it less likely to occur
wait i already take it in the morning
wow what dreams i have at night though
so vivid
and
lately my noon naps are good ones also
makes me looking forward to the next episode
you know like true detective or something

heck
last week we were staying at this house
the house was my parents house
but not really it was a house we lived in just north of here
for a few years
but not really that one but another larger one
then
this marauding motorcycle gang came by with their
machines aroaring
but they were all in suvs instead of cycles
they chased us into the woods
luckily for us
i woke up and no one got hurt

then the other night i was working at the last clinic i worked
at when i retired
and some of the doctors were conniving to get rid of me
because they heard that i might have alzheimers disease
and was on aricept
they didnt want the stigma of having me around
so
they were trying to force me out
but
i beat them
i woke up and they all went away

why am i writing about this
if you have a love one on this drug
be aware how confusing it may be for them if they are
more advanced than i am
they im sure will get these dreams interwoven in with reality
and may not be able to tell the difference

plus
one of my goals of this blog since i am so early in the disease
is to let you know what happens in the brain
what your loved one may be thinking
what effect does this have on you the patient
no one really has written about all this before

i have time
as i expect things will progress slowly
to let you know
whats happening upstairs in this brain
and try to put in on paper or on this page

whoa what was that over in the corner of the room
that just flashed and went away
am i in rem sleep or what

oh whew it was just my verizon card flashing letting
me know the signal had dropped off

sometimes this all seems strange at times

but i plan on dreaming on
let you know when they are good ones

there you go again those aricept dreams
the medication i take aricept (donepezil) for possible
alzheimers disease has the side effect of very vivid dreams
i mean real vivid dreams
such
that when you wake up you feel like you just stepped out
of the room and closed the door
and
that you could just open the door again and walk into the room
and start the dream back up where you left it off

well
sometimes i wake up suddenly in the middle of the dream
go back to sleep
and finish it
something i never could do before i started taking the aricept

this sunday night was one of those dreams
a weird one
it incorporated events in my life into the dreams

my cowgirl sister in law is a principal in a elementary
school near here
this year the kids are going to start gardens in raised beds
of course she asked me for advice
a mistake
i gave her a lot of it
probably more than she wanted

then this week and next month im talking briefly to doctors
meeting where i use to work about the upcoming walk to
end alzheimers in austin next month
since they are one of the event sponsors this year

i guess all that and that aricept got together and created
a real wierd dream
where
i had planted along with a neighbor a nice raised bed garden
with peppers tomatoes brocoli egg plant etc
that were growing great
all nice and landscaped

then my wife she and i
remember  now this is only a dream
invited a group of doctors and their families over for
a meal and for a garden tour

you know doctors kids are like preachers kids
they can be an unruly group
these doctor kids pulled up all the plants
fed the niegbors birds to the cat
but the cat only had them in their mouths
they didnt chew them or swallow them
so the birds eventually got away

the doctors wanted me to do intensive care nursery care
and my wife she to work here also
we met the two of us while working together in a hospital
while in college

thank goodness i woke up after i told the doctors and their
families they had to leave and take their kids with them

oh with that dream i didnt try to go back and finish it

please dont try to analyze and interpret this dream
it was produced under the influence of a drug

this is as disturbing as my dreams ever get
thank goodness

i wonder if i should help those kids plant that garden
at the school
just in case

last walk, bad dream

Walk to End Alzheimers

LAST WALK
tomorrow is the last of the three walks we are doing for
the alzheimers associations walk to end alzheimers

last weekend at the austin walk there was an elderly man
probably in his mid 70s
he was in a wheel chair
i first encountered him on the walk up one of the small
hills that the walk had on it this year

he was faced backwards and was pushing himself up the
hill in the wheelchair
a younger man i presume it was his son was helping to
guide the wheelchair up the hill as the old man provided
all the power with his legs to get the chair up the hill

i offered to help pull him up the hill
his presumed son said no he wants to do this himself
he struggled and sweated and was short of breath but he
got up over that hill and coasted down the other side

i understand his motivation
probably he was walking for his wife is my guess
i was walking for my mom dad and younger brother
and for myself

what an inspiration this old man was
i understand

BAD DREAM
ive written before about my vivid dreams that are caused by
the aricept (donepezil) that i take for my diagnosis of
mild cognitive impairment that may be due to alzheimers disease
and how they are never bad ones

well i had a bad one

last night i was in the denver airport
guess denver because of all the talk about colorados role in
the election as a swing state

met little abbie and her family there guess because someone
had written me a message that they had read the blog about
her and how it was such an inspiration (her blog is the one of
my popular blog posts on the list to the right of this blog)

also ran into several patients of mine at the airport
some had medical problems that they needed help with
so i stopped and spent time with them to help them get
the right advice on where to go to get the right care and treatment
for their problems

guess thats because i had a patient a teenager i had talked to
this week about a medical problem she had and was able
to give some advice about what evaluations she needed to have done

i of course have to be careful since i have given up my license and
cant legally practice medicine anymore-thanks to my diagnosis and
my personal choice to end my career

so there i was in the denver airport actually with a group of former
patients that were all flying on the same plane back to austin that
i was to fly on

i use to have an old silver metal briefcase that i got when i was in
college from my historian brother and i used it all the way
through college medical school and my early practice
think something james bond would have carried stuff in in his
early movies
ive since donated it to one of my former patients who needed an
old briefcase for a school project using it as a star wars or something
like that prop

in my dream i put my wallet my cell phone my jacket and my airline
ticket in that old briefcase
i sat it down as i ordered a drink
when i got ready to board the plane i couldnt find my briefcase

so there i was in the denver airport without a wallet or id without a
cellphone without a ticket and if you are like me you have no idea
of anyones cell phone numbers
i know mine and our home number and no one elses
not even my wife shes number

what was i going to do

what i did was woke up suddenly and couldnt go back to sleep
i had wanted to finish this dream to get a better outcome

RECYCLE

we recycle as much as we can here at the country n
we have to haul it 10 miles to a recycle place nearby

at the habitat houses i work at im always looking for
things to grab and recycle out of the dumpster
ive even been seen climbing up inside to recover
cardboard metal and other objects

the metal i haul to a trailer an elderly man leaves out
in front of his house
when it gets full he hauls it to the metal recycling place
i guess to supplement his income

(he also is across the street from a country store called
andice country store which has those good ole hamburgers
like you use to get when you went to a drive in
no mcdonalds for me)

yesterday i scooped up a partial load of concrete pieces
that were broken up from the sidewalk in front of the
house we are working on now

this concrete pieces will be used to line my several hundred
feet of garden and landscape beds
its permanent wont breakdown will be there still when the earth
is destroyed one day

it also is used in my crushed granite walkways because
when turned upside down it looks like our native limestone
rocks

cost for me zero and
it adds to the rustic look of our place

DREAMY

whoa was i dreamy last night
aricept (donnepezil) started that dream
as it induces vivid dreams and then the aricept ended
it before i was able to finish

last night i was in high school
well i was an adult but they let me go back to high school
because they needed a quarterback for the high school team
(if you live in texas you know all about high school quarterback
recruitment)

you see growing up i was always the quarterback
all the way from the fifth grade until the end of my 9th grade
when we moved to a small town that only had basketball
i moved from quarterback to forward then

this high school had good receivers but needed a quarterback
who could throw to them
that was me

i also during the dream was a doctor and was treating some
patients who had add and was having problems with school

you know in dreams you can make the story anyway you want

the neighbors were hunting during this time and ran this big ole
buck with the biggest rack ive ever seen
we all just let him go and no one shot at him at all

the only color in the film was these brilliant red and orange birds
one was a beautiful bright parakeet

as i was tying all these unrelated things together in my dream
so they would all make sense
my aricept side effects took over
i got this gosh awful leg cramp
you know the kind that pulls you up out of bed
and makes you want to cry when it wont go away

new house, dream, dr b

NEW HOUSE
last saturday we started a new house for the habitat for humanity
this one is larger at 1500 square foot with a 2 car garage
its is a nice neighborhood in a town near the location of the
first house

the family is a working mom with three children who has waited
for 3 years to get this house
she stated the process you go through is a long gruelling one to
be the one to qualify
but she feels like its all worth it now that she is about to get into her
new house with her kids
the economy downturn really delayed the process at the habitat
for getting loan approval
yep even they were affected by on the mess caused by our financial
institutions and by our congressman both democratic and republican
(both sides are equally responsible)

so the mom is excited
the same workers are there working
many have thousands of hours donated to building these houses
also the first day the same large group from a local company was
there to volunteer
the house was completely framed and squared off
now today we put up the osb sides and the trusses
we are working every day for 7 days to get a jump start on
this build as there is grant money that was donated but has
to be used before july 1

this one is number 50 for this group
congratulations mom

i learned yesterday ive been using the wrong hammer for years
no wonder it was so hard to nail all those hundred of nails over the
years
dropped a hint for a new hammer for fathers day
hint hint

DREAM
whoa had another aricept (donepezil) dream last night
thats one of the side effect of the medicine usually not a bad
one though
the dreams are so real
it sometimes takes me a few minutes to leave them and realize
that they are only dreams
the other side effect i have is insomnia that comes and go
(also is a side effect of the disease)
and seems to run in several day batches
im on one of those several day batches now
am glad im retired so i can catch up with the sleep im missing

just wonder if they have put too much aricept (donepezil) in those pills
sometimes i think thats what happened
just have no way to prove it without spending a lot of money
to find out
i just take the pills and go on

the dream last night was about 6 of my former patients who i
cared for when they were born and for several years afterwards
each one was vividly the same as in real life
these kids are all in their early 20s now
even their parents were in the dreams just as they were then
not now as they now look like someone who has been a parent
for  20 years

i opened a day care just to take care of babies who had been my
patients
one of my sons and my wife she helped me run the day care
after this dream i know i wouldnt want to run a day care or
work in one

thanks aricept (donepezil) for letting me see some of my former
patients
was better than facebook

DR B
dr b was one of my classmates from medical school
he was 6 years younger as were many of my classmates as i
started my educational career later in life after floundering around
for a few years
(parents dont give up on your kids)

dr b was remembered by me as a real nice guy
he had this talent that ive not seen before
we rotated in groups of about 15 people
he was in another group that got joined together to do our
obgyn rotation

we would stay up all night monitoring ob patients in labor and if
we were lucky they would let us deliver them
then the next morning we had to have all our rounds done
and all had to be dressed in ties and our pretty white jackets
to listen to a lecture from one of our professors
the head one was a jerk and he would go after you if he saw any
problems
dont dare go to sleep while he was talking or you would suffer

dr b's talent came into play very well for this situation
he could sit up and sleep with his eyes opened
you could flash your hands over his face and he would not blink
dont know if he ever got caught
he always got that extra hour of sleep on those days

dr b died suddenly last week of a dissecting aortic aneurysm
when they happen its sometimes hard to detect
dr b seems to have been loved by his patients
he was a good family doctor
if you liked me you would have liked him

condolences to his family

i think about dying a lot more now that i get older
i hope that when my time comes i go this way and
i and my family dont have to suffer with the end stages of alzheimers like
ive seen happen in my family

dreams, football weekend

DREAMS
the aricept i take makes me have these vivid dreams that are
impressive well
i had a dream that
everyone would be treated the same no matter the color of their skin,
their religion, their sex, and their country of origin
we all are different each of us
we all came from different countries
i had a dream we were all equal

martin luther king had that dream
without his dream and his approach we probably would have
had a rift in our country that was as big as the civil war
a war still being fought today even though it has been 150 years
if you are white like me
you know what im talking about
some cant let it go
its time

there are places in the us that the king holiday is not celebrated
there is only one reason why
we should be beyond all this

if king had not come along there would have been war in our
streets that probably would still be going on today
guerrilla warfare like you saw in vietnam and iraq
we had bombings, areas burned, riots as it was
things would have been worse if he had not been here
and took the stand and approach he did

he is probably the greatest american in the last century
without him we would be in trouble today

MLK we remember you today
thanks for saving us from ourselves
we all have dreams because of you

FOOTBALL WEEKEND
probably the best game of the year was played this weekend
the saint 49er game was a good one
sure hated to see either team lose
drew brees is a winner or should have been
maybe its the 49ers time though
that coach has all parts of their game doing well
maybe well have a brother vs brother super bowl
wont that be a good one
bet the announcers would run that story into the ground

the giants are peaking at the right time
guess they were just getting some rest part of the season
too bad they have to play the 49ers next
that would make for a good super bowl game and storyline

that tom brady runs a laser offense
but those ravens are tough on defense

dreams, tomato, winterize garden, dental fu

DREAMS
one of the side effects of taking aricept (donepezil) is that you
have these fantastic dreams
the dreams are vivid hd dreams
they are never violent or disturbing

last night in my dream my wife she and my cowgirl sisterinlaw she
went horseback riding
my younger son he went to work out at the gym
my brothers and i and my parents were staying at a cabin in the
mountains somewhere am not sure where
it was a beautiful place

they were all late getting back from their rides and gym and our
meal got cold
it was raccoon cooked with an apple in its mouth
(i ran into a racoon early the morning before getting into
our cats food-teach him huh)
there was dressing and greens and veggies surrounding that
old raccoon
i got mad cause they were late but didnt yell or throw things
just gave them my stare that im told i have
no violence

later we all got together again at a mountain resort that had an
alzheimers center and we had a similar meal that was enjoyed
by all
although i dont remember eating any coon in my dream

woke up and felt like i was still in that resort
just hope my wife she didnt leave me there

TOMATO

this is the tomato called the taylor mater since it is from taylor
it was left in a house this summer when the air conditioner
went off
when the family returned when the ac was fixed the
tomato had begun to sprout things all around the tomato
that made it look like it came down from outer space

so my wife she was given it by her friend and i and others recommend
she plant it in a pot

so she did and put it in the garden (of course its organic) that she has
at school
he has grown it all fall in that pot
now that it is cold she moved it inside and put it in her window that
gets sun all day
its thriving
she had sent progressive pictures to me and to the central texas
gardening show on klru here in austin
they plan to show the pictures and talk about it on their jan 7th show

now wonder if it will produce some tomatoes

WINTERIZE GARDEN
if you live in this area or where its cold you need to winterize
your garden
ive covered all my veggie beds with row cover that will provide
several degrees of protection

ive add mulch to a lot of my plants in the landscape
those susceptible to freezing that are in pots have been
moved inside or into a small green house ive made in my
garage
have my lemons and oranges in there and they are producing ok

when the weather warms up some i will take the row cover off
then replace it when the cold weather returns

DENTAL FU
well that wasnt bad
in and out in 15 minutes like the burger place with that name
only slight pain with application of the new crown

maybe ill return again if its going to be that easy next time
maybe its like having a baby
where you forget what it was like so you have another one

supposedly theres a chemical that is produced in females that
causes them to forget what it was like

maybe that chemical could be used after you have a dental procedure
dont think i want to have a baby to find out

CROP FAILURE
here is the picture of my cole crops doing well this fall
this was the best crop ive had in a long time

here is the picture of my cole crops after they failed
they were attacked by aphids, white flies, and neglect

its important when gardening to make frequent visits
looking for problems such as diseases, insects, moisture levels
etc
this is what happens if you dont

PLANT POTATOES
its tater time
a few taters planted now can yield a large harvest
in the early summer

i use the kiss method of planting taters
i buy small whole taters that are recommended for this area
these are texas la soda (red), pontiac (red), and kennebec(white)
your local nursery or feed store will usually have the correct ones
for your area

i dont slice mine but select out the small ones when i buy them
saves time and makes it simple

my soil and bed was prepared a few weeks ago with 4 inches
of compost and organic fertilizer(i use the lady bug brand)
this was mixed in well into the bed

the taters are planted 8-12 inches deep one foot apart in rows
1-2 feet apart
i take my hand and open the soil and just drop the whole tater in
then cover it up with soil      thats it

when it grows up through the soil abut 6 inches i will cover
the growth by bringing soil from the sides of the row but will leave
about1 inch of plant tip exposed
will do this again when the plant grows out
the total bed is covered with pine straw to provide a blanket in case
of a bad freeze
when  the tater plants have broken through and the weather looks
like it will freeze i cover the plants with row cover or sheet (if my
wife she is not looking and i can get by with it)
i usually will fertilize again once the plants are up good

then its just making sure they get watered correctly until harvest
time which is usually some time in early summer when the plants
start to die back

usually i cant keep my hands off them though so will dig some
early      these are called new potatoes
yum yum    sometimes will just eat them raw in the garden

we usually make enough to last for several months into the late winter

you can also plant these in five gallon buckets or barrels or whiskey
barrels
put in good dirt, dig a hole, and drop in the tater
youre done except for watering

usually these are good dreams
but have had an occasional disturbing dream
like my last two
am reading a book about the chicago worlds fair and in it
theres a serial killer
nuff said
if have more like this will stop the meds

but last night had a good one
the high school girls basketball playoffs were going on and
one of the local teams (top team in the state) was playing

the game had ended in a tie
they could not go on because the rims were all torn down
so it would be decided by a free throw shot with a deflated
basketball shot into the air
it had to land on the line under where
the basket was
if it landed on the line and did not move then the team that
did that won and got to go to the state tournament

well the players were not allowed to shoot the free throws
but instead had to select someone from the stands to shoot it

know who that was right----me

the player that chose me was the top player in the state
she was able to use her old beat up basketball (one of the
old leather ones that was all worn and pealing) that was
partially deflated

i stood on the line looked around at the kids and the fans
looked at the line and said no way

i found a principal in the stand (thanks becky) who took us next
door to a elementary gym to shoot the free throws then:

i woke up and did not find out what happened

hopefully i can finish this one at my noon time nap

the dogs love the snow
the cats and chickens dont

the good thing about snow around here is that it comes
you enjoy it for the day then its gone
it doesnt stay around to annoy you
then the weather gets warm and sunny

we do enjoy our mild winters here

some people are worried im down and sad about my diagnosis
im not
im busy
i hit a bump in the road of life got turned a new direction and then
have moved on
i do miss practicing medicine but now its time for me to move on
retirement was going to happen in 2-5 years anyway

luckily i prepared myself well for retirement
i am doing things that i like to do like gardening, exercising, hiking,
and am doing long delayed projects here at the country n (have a
life time of those to do here)

my wife she and i are planning to travel and see things and places
we have put off seeing, visiting friends and relatives more often,
and are actually enjoying our new life (especially my wife she-she
has her own private house keeper and cook now)

if you see me youll notice im tanner, have some intentional weight
loss, am happy and content, dont get angry, am busy, and will
engage you in a talk about alzhiemers if youll listen

i dont have cancer, i havent had a stroke, i dont have heart disease,
i dont have artery disease, i dont have high blood pressure, i dont
have huntingtons disease, i dont have lung disease, i dont have
kidney disease, i dont have als, i dont have mda, i dont have
ulcerative colitis or crohns disease or other diseases

when my disease is full blown i want know it but people with
these diseases do

i am healthy otherwise and have a normal day to day life and am
enjoying each day now maybe more than in the past

week three aricept (donepezil) 10 mgm

finally the side effects are leaving
am not having to take meds to compensate for the side effects
no more morning sickness-sorry ladies yall have to suffer this with
your pregnancy
no more dizziness
still having sleep issues-only get 5-6 hours a night but compensate
by doing a noon time nap (have always done that in the past before
starting these meds )
still with those dreams
dont want those to go away
wish i could dvr them and rewatch some of them

now am looking forward to super bowl weekend

DREAMS
my oh my those dreams
this is legal tripping
man cant dvr them
got to figure out how to do that
maybe hypnosis

last night i was an emergency room doctor again
worked emergency rooms moonlighting as a resident and
when in full practice worked them  until 15 years ago
also did emergency room work full time for 2 years

this is my second emergency room dream
the person that took over my shift in my dream was
my attorney that i use for all my legal matters
everyone one says that if you go to court you want
him on your side and not on the other side

i guess attorneys would make good doctors since they
sometimes control what we do in medicine
we all practice defensive medicine some of the time
probably if we did not do that we would save people and
the health care system a  lot of money

many doctors may not admit that
some of it is subconscious

if we just followed guidelines based on scientific evidence
then we should not have to worry about defensive medicine
but thats not how the system works

well guess i dont have to worry about that now

ANOTHER TEST
so theres another screening test ive came up with for cognitive
decliine
first this week was the sage test, then dr ozs test, and now the
togd password test

when i do this blog and go through various email accounts,
facebook accounts, news accounts, blog monitoring accounts,
bank accounts, etc i use 10-12 different passwords

think that if i start forgetting those passwords then its a sign
that i may have more cognitive decline

do think about it when i type in a password and it gets rejected
and do it again and it gets rejected, oh no got 1 more chance........
whew the caps button was on

now where did i write down those passwords

BASKETBALL FEVER
about to turn away from football now
the pro bowl is this week i think
they should play it after the super bowl when we are all in
football withdrawal
super bowl next week then thats it until august, but maybe
not for the pros

have decided now that im retired im going to splurge and
buy the march madness package and watch all the games
on tv unless the new programming on cbs, espn, tbs, and
tnt shows all the games

it only costs you for a pair of shoes-(which everyone has unless
you are from arkansas)(it ok for me to write that as im from
arkansas and use to go barefoot to school when i was in
elementary school)-with no gym memberships

it helps to raise your hdl (good) cholesterol-the higher the better
it lowers your blood sugar-if you are a diabetic just take your
blood sugar and then go for a walk and take it again
it increases muscle strength and endurance
it strengthens the bones-weight bearing exercise is one of the
preventative measures or treatments  for osteoporosis
it is part of the three prong attack on depression and anxiety
along with medication and counseling
it has been shown to increase neovascularization of vessels in the
heart to improve circualtion to the heart muscle
it improves circulation to the legs in the same way
it helps to lower your blood pressure
it delays or improves cognitive decline in mild cognitive impairment
and may slow down the development of alzheimers

ok that was more than 10 but you get the message

it dont cost nothing and it only takes 30 minutes a day
cant think of a good excuse not to do it

MORE DREAMS-episode # 3
last night i flew fighter aircraft for the air force along with
my brother he (he flew the awacs for the air force) and with
roy willliams the wide reciever for the cowboys
the problem was that roy and i did not know how to fly the
planes on our first mission so my brother the ex pilot and
financial planner had to show us how as we went along
dont know if we made it back from our first mission or not
because i woke up and could not go back to sleep to find
out how we did
am worried as we might have had a bad experience like the
cowboys did this year

dont think i want to stop this medicine
wonder if lsd is a derivative of this drug

hobbies, social activities, work projects or sports

weve all been there right

my mom loved to go to church every sunday even as she
progressed in her disease        in the nursing home even when
more advanced she still enjoyed the church services and singing

one problem with patients with alzhiemers and other diseases is
that people dont go and visit the patients as they worsen
this is true of a lot of diseases-terminal cancer, huntingtons, als,
hiv etc
this sometimes is when patients need the visits the most
think most of us are  afraid because we see ourselves  and
dont want to face the inevitable end of life

remember the africanized bee scares
remember the colony collapse of native bees that was
affecting crop production

apparently the africanized bees and native bees have
developed a new bee that is more resistant to the colony
collapse and the bees are making a comeback

maybe bad things can be good things, sometimes

SMART PHONE SECURITY
there lays my wifes shes cell phone
i pick it up and go right to her email and twitter and facebook
accounts without any problems
that aint right

my wife she has an android
she can password protect her phone or she can swipe protect
her phone
she can simple set a simple dot connecting pattern that opens
her phone that will prevent me and someone else from getting
her information
hackers are going to get in no matter what you do

my wife she can also shut her phone down if it is stolen
and can track the phones location remotely
(recently thats how a man tracked his stolen car  
he directed the police to the stolen car which had his cell
phone in it)

DREAMS

sargent shriver died
he was involved in the founding of special olympics,
peace corps, head start and job corps
at 88 he announced his diagnosis of alzheimers
his family took over his care and began
educating people about alzheimers

his daughter maria shriver-author, journalists,
and former first lady of california-has worked
hard to raise the awareness of this disease    
she and the shriver family are actively
involved in the alzheimers association

TAX CUT
many of you may not know this but you got
a 2% tax cut this year     there is a decrease
just this year of 2% in the fica taxes you pay
(except for those school teachers who
work for districts that dont pay fica taxes)
thats $1000 for someone making $50000 a year

DUCT TAPE 2
another medical use although painful is using duct tape to
remove unwanted body hair
this is well demonstrated in television shows and movies

to spend the night there     they were not able to find my wife
