plankin

PLANKIN
i thought planking was for fun
heck the last year or two i planked all over my property
i was just having a good time doing it
as planking had became a fad

i planked my solar panels

my water tanks

my rock entryway

my big ole mesquite tree here at the country  n

my bale of pine straw i was about to use in my garden

i didnt know that this would become a way to get
exercise
to strengthen the core of muscles in you body
the body core

i was just having fun
but i did notice when i was planking for the photos
my wife she took too long some time
and
i realized how hard it was to hold the pose
and
i could feel the muscles that i was using to hold myself in place

guess these were good for my back
or
made it worse

so below is the pose for the 30 day plank challenge
i first thought it was planking like i did before
on different locations around the country n
but
this new challenge is to hold the pose for a set time
and gradually increase the time you hold it each day
so that  by 30 days you have held it for 5 minutes

heres the time schedule
good theres rest days

heres the pose i chose
poet and didnt know it

ok
push up position for 20 seconds
how hard could that be right

well i just did it
am short of breath
sweaty
arms hurt
toes hurt
so thats the core muscles

300 seconds seems like an awfully long time

maybe ill try the lay on your back position
seems like less work
or
the lounge chair on your back position
or
the watch football on tv position

but
im up to the challenge
in 5 days i get to rest some

are you up to the challenge

thanks to fb friend rn for introducing this to me

my things

MY THINGS
since i have retired i have my things that i like to
be involved in and promote
like
habitat for humanity volunteering
meals on wheels delivery
blogging
giving advise-doing this one is cheap-
on medicine
gardening
organic of course
rainwater collection
xeric gardening
solar power
setting up a small garden
recycling things
sports especially football and basketball
and
alzheimers diesease
anything that will promote awareness of this disease

so this weekend i get to do three of these things

this am if the ice doesnt cancel it
i will be representing the alzheimers association at a volunteers fair
at sun city in georgetown texas
i get to wear purple and talk about alzheimers research
alzheimers programs available in this area
the walks to end alzheimers and more

this is a subject i can talk on all day long if someone will listen

then on saturday morning my wife she and i go to an
annual conference luncheon in dallas at ut southwestern
for those of us who volunteer our bodies to be researched on
there we get to hear whats going on at the research center
and whats going on nationally

i usually know most of whats going on since i keep up
with all the alzheimers research nationally

one of the upcoming research studies involves giving one of
the new alzheimers vaccine that removes the bad gooey
beta amyloid from the brain
it starts soon
im one year too young but attempts are being made to
get me into this one

the secret in the future will be to start treatment as early as possible
even before symptoms start
those studies are going on now here in the us and elsewhere

i usually learn something since the researchers are all there
talking about their research studies

then
i go slightly south of dallas and meet with a professor at
a large university who is putting a rainwater collection
system on her barn
the water to be used in her garden and maybe to water her horses
and trees
she has access to water but its restricted because of
water restrictions in the area

i do look forward to infecting her with the rainwater
collection virus
she may not know how contagious it is even though she
is a biologist
there is no vaccine or cure known so far

she has 3 tanks to hook up
ive warned her that she needs to plan for more since
those tanks will fill up real fast

its hard for a rainwaterer to sit and watch the water
run over out of the tanks or over the gutters
for
you see
there is only one cure
more tanks

hopefully with these three events this weekend
i can spread the word
to
end alzheimers now
save the rain

winging it

WINGING IT
i love fried chicken
just dont ever get it anymore
i grew up in the deep south
and
loved to eat my moms fried chicken
it never seemed greasy or bad to me
it wasnt quite like the colonels chicken
his did seem greasy when you got past that
thick crust

my wife she bakes her chicken
which is close to moms friend chicken
and
i guess its more healthy

when i was a child
i remember raising our own chickens
and
using them for our meat source

the worst part was that they had to be killed
theres not a good way to do that
the method used was the wringing of the neck
and
having to watch them die afterwards

i guess using the cone method is better
we didnt have one

i guess for many of us now if we had to do this
we would never ever eat chicken

i know i threaten our country n hens if they dont lay eggs
but
i think they know that i couldnt ever do that to them

although i did think about several times
of applying that technique on our rooster larry
he who seemed to like my wife so much

i still have scars when he attacked my back when i was
working on something in the chicken coop
if i could have gotten my hands on it at that moment
yep think i would have wrung his neck

now
the only chicken i get is bbq chicken from a nearby
bbq place
it does a good job of cooking the chicken
i especially like to pull off the wings
and
eat everything thats edible
when i finish
after a lengthy messy battle with that wing
and
a big pile of paper towels
i have reduced that wing to nothing but bones

this week while reading the kim komando website
i ran across this video on how to eat chicken wings
without much mess

how come someone hasnt thought of this before
it seems so easy
i cant wait to try it out soon on a batch of bbq wings
