BABY BEE BRAINS

a drone or multiple drones mate with the queen bee
she lays eggs into the cells of the honeycomb
as the egg develops into a baby bee it eats nectar and pollen made into royal jelly and honey
the nectar and pollen are harvested from out in the world
the majority of these baby bees are worker bees who do all the work in the colony
kinda like your wife and mom probably does

they feed the baby bees care for them keep the combs cleaned out keep the hives temperature regulated using their wings to move air when its hot and when its cold forming a mass to keep the hive warm like a blanket
some develop into guard bees
if you have ever personally been exposed to one of these guard bees
which i have
they can be very aggressive defending the hive
they go for the lips the eyes up your nose and your ears
they seem to know where to sting you to get you away from the hive

then
the worker bees that go out into the world to grab nectar and pollen work real hard
in fact when they find a lot of it they come back to the hive
using their movements to give the other bees the gps setting for where the stuff is
they usually die after a month sometimes their little ole wings are just wore out

it takes a good working bee brain to make all these things happen

one worry in the bee world is that the pesticides out in the environment gets brought back in to the hive and is fed via the nectar and pollen to the baby bees
this cant be good for these rapidly growing baby bee brains and bodies

this contamination may be and probably is one of the causes of the bee hive collapse that occurs
where the bees disappear or are all found dead outside the hive

a researcher recently did an experiment where these baby bees in a hive were exposed to a pesticide
other baby bees from other hives were not

the exposed baby bees turned out to be not as bright as the other non exposed bees
they had difficulty forage and finding directions
sort of like what happens when one gets old
the researchers actually did micro ct scans of the bee brains which showed their brains were smaller

all this exposure can eventually kill off a hive

why is this important
without bees we may not have enough food in the world for folks to eat

also
thinking of those little bee brains
made me think of the rapidly developing fetal brain in humans
there is a several weeks of time that is the most important for that brain to develop

what is all this doing to the fetus brain development if it can affect the baby bee brain

as we ask our crop producers to protect the baby bees so they wont die off
remember
that doing this also protects the growing fetus and the growing babies and infants and young childrens brains

this is why i garden organically and try to eat organically

this week i read several pages my mother had written a few years before she died about what life was like when she grew up

her dad was a foreman of a farm in southern arkansas
i think back then in the 1920s they probably were the original organic farmers
using manures and plant residue as their fertilizers
they didnt have pesticides they used back then

im sure the bumblebees were doing quite well on their farms

my wife she and i got some practice the last 3 days for dealing with the covid19 virus
we had a bad gi bug that required a lot of hand washing
a lot of scrubbing counter tops and the bathroom
staying inside out of the public
resting

thats the things you need to do if you get the covid19 infection
wearing a mask if you dont have the infection doesnt help
wearing a mask if you have it may prevent you from spreading the germ
that mask alos if yu have the infection will be loaded big time with germs
finding and wearing a mask shouldnt be your top priority
it probably should be plenty of soap

remember if you have the covid19 you shouldnt be around folks anyway

in a recent blog i mentioned the possibility of researchers selling research animals in wahun which were sold in their wild animal wet markets
the covid19 instead has been traced to wild bats who carry the virus
it jumped to a certain asian anteater known to be  sold at the market
thats how scientists think it all started
they have been able to do the full genetics of the covid19 and its almost identical to the ones the bat carry

as i hear all this stuff about pushing through a vaccine as soon as possible
one rule
you cant rush science or nature
it takes a year to a year and a half to get one ready

my mind drifted back to presidents fords debacle with the swine flu outbreak

basically ford was getting pressure because there was concern the new swine flu that was coming around was like the pandemic spanish flu that killed millions back in the early 1900s
the ww1 seemed to stir that one up

there was a lot of hype that this swine flu would spread like the spanish flu
so they pushed through a vaccine that had not been fully tested

beware politicians and national health folks read your history
it does repeat itself you know

the gist of the ford swine flu was that a lot of folks ended up with guillian barre syndrome
an inflection that can cause complete paralysis
some permanent
many were left with permanent neurological deficits
the government pushed the vaccine out in to the public before it was ready
only 25% of americans got the vaccine before it was stopped
many think this debacle is why ford lost the election for president

the next thing i did this week after recovering from my covid19 prep was a read this article about the spanish flu outbreak in australia in 1919
they manage to keep it at bay for awhile
but eventually it arrived there

the things that helped with the spanish flu outbreak during ww1 are the same things that will help us today
wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water
use hand sanitizer if you cant wash your hands but it doesnt work as well as washing your hands
cough into your elbow
if you get sick stay home
wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water

soon there will be enough testing kits available to test folks
then if you are positive what do you do
those things i wrote above

the most at risk folks are folks over 60 and those with diseases that suppress their immune systems
sort of the same as with the flu
luckily kids are not as affected by this covid19 virus

it will get worse
it will probably slow down as the weather warms in the us then it will probably move on down into the southern hemisphere
but
it will probably return next fall
it is a pandemic already the powers to be just arent calling it that yet
but
they probably will

one area that is showing a weakness by this outbreak is that
like our roads and highways
the infrastructure of our public health system is broken
it will be hard to get it all up and running like it should be in time for this outbreak since it has been neglected for so long
we are about to pay the price for this

in my medical career i saw a drop off over time in this public health area infrastructure

i want to see a well known national infections disease expert in a white coat with his or her name of the coat talking to me and us about this covid19 virus telling us what the truth is
not politicians or news people

i worry that those truth tellers will be shut down
we americans we want the truth the whole truth
then
we can deal with whats about to face us

lets remove politics from the discussion

finally
wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds
cough into your elbow
if you get sick stay at home
stay away from folks in your family in the high risk areas
if you feel better wearing a mask then wear one
it wont help you much
