DEAR MS B-I AM ADDICTED

ms b
i use to say i was addicted to chocolate
however
since being on the aricept (donepezil) i have had a lot
of trouble sleeping at night
eating all that chocolate
like brownies snickers sees candy
i noticed that it like too much coffee
made sleep a real problem for me
so
i have gradually weened myself off chocolate
so that now
its an occasionally vice i partake in the morning
substituting the piece of chocolate
for maybe a 1/4 or 1/2 cup of coffee
keeping my caffeine intake about the same that way

but
ms b
i have another real life long addiction
that i have no plans to eliminate
or
restrict in any way

its called sports
eg
last night texas played oklahoma in basketball
no 25 vs no 1 or 2
it was on too late for me
so
i dvred it
watched it this morning at 400 am
missing all the commercials
watching knowing i wouldnt dose off to sleep
enjoying my first coffee and maybe a bite of that
chocolate
now dont tell gma about that chocolate
thats our secret

the invention of dvrs
our subscribing to dvr service with our satelite provider
we live too far in the boonies to get cable
has only made my addiction to sports worse

youll find me many a early morning hour
watching a dvred sporting event
ms b
i just hate watching all those commercials
and
all that commentatoring that goes on at half time
especially if my team is losing

now im sorry to say for you
and
your mom
that i passed that addiction to your daddy
and
to your uncle

im sorry about that
but
you know they could be addicted to worst things
right

no i dont plan to enter a 12 step program
i just plan on
watching my favorite sports
at
my leisure
so it doesnt really affect anyone else

so please dont let anyone plan
an intervention on me
since
it wont take

it was peytons brain that recognized most of what
the panthers defense was trying to do

apparently he gave a fine speech before the game
to the bronco players
heck he made many of those grown men cry
he did

alzheimers news-use this one

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-USE THIS ONE

since i was diagnosed with early mild cognitive impairment
that may turn out to be alzheimers disease
i have tried to fine tune my health using anything that i read
about that may or will slow down the process
like
controlling cholesterol weight
exercising
eating mind diet
taking 12 supplements a day
aggressively using naps to get my 8 hrs
of sleep a day
taking aricept (donepezil)
staying active physically mentally socially
etc
also
one of the things on the list was controlling your blood pressure

now mine had waxed and waned from normal to abnormal
so
i decided after time and after reading on blood pressure and alzheimers
that it was
time i do something about it
so
i got my doctor to start me on lisinopril
cheap effective med that worked great on my blood pressure
its the one my mother took also
however
i started coughing all the time seemed to always have something
in my throat
i knew it was the lisinopril doing that so i stopped it
and
changed to avapro (irbesartin) a class of drug called
arb or angiotensin receptor blocker
i only pay a few bucks a month for it

as it turns out that may have been a good choice for me

others in that class are diovan micardis benicar cozaar teveten
then the last one is called
atacand

researchers used atacand but they could have used any of these
for the study
on alzheimers disease

what they found was these arb blood pressure drugs prevented
excessive glutamate that can accumulate and kill nerve cells to
not damage the nerve cells
thus
slowing down or maybe preventing the damage from alzheimers disease

the drug also prevented inflammation and other metabolic processes
that occur with alzheimers one being amyloid metabolism

amyloid accumulation is thought to be the culprit causing alzheimers disease

so the researcher theorizes that that atacand and its sibling arbs may
not only slow alzheimers progression but also delay or maybe
prevent the development of alzheimers

so
i plan to stay on my arb and will encourage others who are at
risk for alzheimers disease and have blood pressure
to use this class of drugs

the good thing as they plan more research
is these drugs are mostly generic cheap and it will be
easier and cheaper to do more research

consider discussing this with your medical provider

all i know for myself personally is that my memory is back to normal
something or somethings i should say are making the difference
this i believe is one of them
