what a weekend, dont call me

WHAT A WEEKEND IT WAS
i have a rule watching sporting events
no matter the score
even if my team is losing
i always watch the whole game from
start to finish
unless of course i fall asleep
which is a frequent occurrence
but
with dvr im able to watch the ending
eventually

this weekend however i broke my rule
when i was watching the byu texas game
i watched as much as i could stand of the game
until the third quarter
then i couldnt stand it anymore
so
i turned it off
and the next day i even erased the dvr
i had made of the game

yes i broke the rule my long time rule
i couldnt stand to watch those horns not tackle someone

even i know after not playing football for nearly 50 years
you cant tackle a rugby player with just your arms
or a bum legged quarterback

how embarrassing that performance was

yes manny your head had to roll the next day
thats the way the game is played now

now
how do you learn how to tackle in 1 week
you dont

it my friends could be a long season for horn fans


thank goodness the cowboys won and looked good
doing it
so the weekend wasnt a total loss

hogs won but samford
4800 students
think a rice like school
i always think sanford and sons when i hear that name
only winning by a few points isnt a good sign either


wait isnt that the new arkansas a sign
johnny and aggies won and he i think kept his mouth shut
and his autographs to himself

lost and found, football

LOST AND FOUND
i wrote recently about losing my billfold
and all the hassles that went along with notifying
everyone that it was lost-banks credit card companies
social security health insurance flex account card
and drivers license folks just to name a few

had to get a new picture taken with my glasses off
since they are using facial recognition software
now at the department of public safety

got all that done
it took up a lot of time
then i kept a close watch on my credit cards bank accounts
credit agency listings
so far nothing had shown up

remember hours were spent taking care of this
some on hold with agencies listening to bad music

plus with a diagnosis like i have you start wondering
well has the time came when i start losing stuff
and cant find it

heck last week i couldnt find my keys for a day
i always hang them on a key rack we have inside
our kitchen
we both know thats where we hang our keys
nope they werent there

my wife she put them on top of my portable radio i
use when i work outside
at least thats what i tell people

then someone told me about the time they lost their keys
they found them later sitting on top of a coke can in
the refrigerator

these things just make you wonder though

well remember the duct tape chair that i blogged about that
im so proud of since
i was known also as the duct tape doctor

for thanksgiving this year
which by the way has now turned out to be the best
my wife she did a deep cleaning of the house
and yes that included cleaning up my duct tape chair

as she was cleaning out underneath
why she was under there i dont know
 she noticed a fringe of brown stuck up in the pipes
underneath the chair

yep there was my billfold
with all my important stuff in it
all unfolded hanging on those pipes

now how in the world did it get there
must have been that mouse that i saw run across
the room that time

sorry but the cowboys horns and hogs all three
suck this year

bye bye bank, bye ags, we got rain, the boys

BYE BYE BANK
am saying goodbye to my megabank that ive been with for
over 15 years
dang that feels so good to be rid of them

first they bundled all our mortgages and sold them off
this is one of the reasons we are in this financial mess
then we the government bailed them out

then
they have made huge profits over the last 2 years
then
they started charging for everything
$5 for checking account (ive got 2 accounts)
$3 for debit card
$12 for online banking
charge for checks
0% interest rate on accounts
potential charge for use of debit card
stopped rewards program for debit card

so i pay them at least $300 a year to use their bank
now that aint right
plus the megabanks helped get us in this mess and they seem
to be profiting off us

so
i switched to a credit union
found one next door to the two branches of the megabank we use
every day
dang that felt so good to do that

$0 for checking account
$0 for savings account
$0 for money market account
$0 for checks ordered online
they pay for each use of the debit card
$0 for debit card
they actually pay interest on my checking, savings and money
market accounts
$0 for use of debit card
%1 on all credit card purchases
$0 for online bill pay

total amount they will be paying me to bank with them next
year is well over $300 a year
will make over $100 just from buying groceries with the credit card
the interest rate on my money market is 20 x the rate on my
mutual fund money market

this was all a tough decision
it easily offsets the extra im paying every month for my smart phone

i feel refreshed like i did when i quit smoking
like ive got rid of this long time addiction to megabanking

just wonder if somehow this is all not right and somehow they will
take it all away

they are gone for sure now
think they made the right decision
now they are out of the shadow and control of the horns
sure will miss those rivalry games though
dont think they will continue the football games as ags will be
in a tough schedule every year
maybe in softball, basketball and baseball

even with them gone the rivalry feel will not ever go away

it is sad to see it go

WE GOT RAIN
we got our first measurable rain last night in over 3 months
we got 1/4 inch of rain
if you bought the water i collected off it it would be $70
the ground is actually wet looking
hopefully it soaked better in the garden if not will have to
water it well today
just need more rain please
we are still 24 inches behind over the last year

my nephew he is here starting to work on a new movie
he was ousted from his chair by the lightning and thunder
just need to drop him in that rainwater tank and get that
limestone rock out of my tank #5

THE BOYS
roma survived
thank goodness for the kicker
they injected him before the game and once during the game
let see they take a needle of numbing medicine
probably marcaine or some other long acting anesthetic and
inject it around the site of the fracture
think broken wrist and they inject the fracture site so you can
use the wrist so it wont hurt

know that must really hurt bad when the numbing medicine
wears off
bet he sleeps in a chair tonight
hopes he doesnt have a night time cough-ouch
hydrocodone (vicodin) to the rescue

theyre gone, this bothers me, feed the hummingbirds, duct(k) tape

THEYRE GONE
well theyre gone
those aggies are going to the sec
hope they talked to arkansas
who took quite a beating in the sec
(of course arkansas has been competitive recently)
maybe theyll get an early taste of sec football when they
play arkansas this year in dallas
lets see next year that would also include lsu, alabama, auburn,
georgia, tennesse etc
ouch

guess they just wanted to get out of the shadow of texas
guess dont blame them for that

sure hate to see that football rivalry go away
always looked forward to that thanksgiving game
it didnt matter who was the best team that year
you knew that game would be a good one

one of the best basketball games i ever saw was texas
vs texas am here in austin a few years ago
the game went into triple overtime
those rivalry games sure will be missed

saw a new gigem sign on the internet but cannot publish
it here in this blog

sure hope they continue the texas-texas am
maybe they could play it at jerrys house

oh the fun we all had jawing with each other at work home
church and elsewhere

guess now i can finally wear my gigem gardening shirt someone
gave me

THIS BOTHERS ME
read the article about pilots  forgetting how to fly planes
am sure glad i dont have flight anxiety

seems pilots use the autopilot so much now that when an
emergency happens the pilots have forgotten how to fly
the plane

the plots arent allowed to manually fly the planes at all
a recent plane crash that killed 49 passengers occurred
because when the pilot took over the controls he did
the wrong procedures and crashed the plane

there probably are not many pilots named skullly left

guess next time i fly ill increase my anti motion sickness medicine
and will add a xanax and a margarita to my regimen

FEED THE HUMMINGBIRDS
its so hot and dry here that the hummingbirds as they migrant
through this area may not have enough food and water to
survive the migration

usually in the fall we have an abundance of native plants with
flowers that produce food for the hummingbirds and butterflies
we now have hardly any on our property

so be sure and put out plenty of hummingbird feeders this fall so
they can survive their trip

DUCT(K) TAPE
my favorite commercial to watch now is the duck tape ones
with all the different colors available

will add their ideas to my duct tape collection
i have red, yellow, black and grey duct tape
the yellow is used to patch the yellow john deere tractor seat
when needed
the black has been used to patch up areas on my old beat up
black ford farm pickup truck
they even have clear duct tape now
look forward to more commercials and ideas
