BACKS OF THE POOR
here they go again
the state legislatures are balancing the budget on the backs
of the poor again

its just mean spirited
pay now or pay later

the plan is to cut 2/3 of the budget from the federally funded
family planning services in the state of texas
apparently this is an attempt to prevent government money from
being used for abortions

they also have cut these programs by a similar amount already
before this big cut

in my career of 30 years as a family physician in two states those
patients of mine who got abortions were very few
none of them got their abortions at federally funded clinics but
at private clinics

however hundreds of my patients received contraceptive care,
disease screenings, and prenatal care at these health clinics
many more rely on them now than in the past because of the
loss of jobs and insurance

pay now or pay later
there will be an upsurge in unplanned and  unwanted pregnancies
in our state
we already are one of the leaders in teenage pregnancies in the
united states
this lack of funding willl probably make us number one now
we strive to be number one in football now we are working to
be number one in this unwanted statistic

shame shame
on the backs of the poor

they are also cutting funding for family practice programs in the
state which will result in several family practice programs to
close down
this is in a time when there is a shortage of family doctors as more
of the doctors like me are leaving the field and fewer students
are going into family mediciine
where did we get these guys making these decisions

STORMS/RAIN
whoa that storm sure got me out of a deep sleep
where did it come through
at least my wife she did not get up and hug the shower wall
like she did this weekend
thought i was going to have to do it though

we are in the middle of the worst drought in this area since the
early 1900s
however we have gotten 6.5 inches now in the last 2 weeks
thats 20% of the yearly rainfall we usually get a year

although this is appreciated we will need a lot more to get out
of this drought

yesterday i was planting something in my yard
as i dug down through my 3 inches of mulch to the soil
i found dry dirt
this was after all of the rain we have had
all that rain was soaked up by the mulch and very little
seemed to have gotten into the deep soil

we want more please just dont do it so noisily and so
fast so the ground can absorb it
and please without all that hail

ok its the heats year
ok its lebrons year and playoff
ok its dirks year also
wish they would hurry up and get to the final so
we can watch those two perform against each other
they also need to get this over with before our wedding
journey is completed

the list of worst cars came out
no hondas of course

top on the list
cadilac escalade
chevrolet tahoe hybird
dodge nitro slt
jeep wrangler unlimited
mercedes benz s550

no fords were on the list
they seem to do something right
maybe cause they did it on their own

what happened to that german technology

will just stick to my toyotas

buy american but only a ford

my old pickup truck is a ford
definitely is well made for all the abuse it has had over
the years

ORANGE TOOLS
have misplaced many a hand tool in my yard and garden
find them months later
so thats where i left it

now my librarian niece recommends that you spray paint
the handles neon orange
what a great idea
will get some today and spray my handles
maybe will also do my hammer, measuring tapes, screwdrivers,
wire pliers, and just might do my car keys

am all for balancing the budget and getting out of debt
do it with my finances and if most americans would do it
then our country would be in better financial shape than it
is now
dont spend what you dont have
taking out a mortgage and borrowing a down payment means
you should rent not buy
what i did for years

but when it comes to the federal budget dont balance that budget
on the backs of the poor
thats what always happens
some of those cuts are ok but some we pay for more in the
future

family planning programs being cut just doesnt make sense
you want families off welfare but you cut the family planning programs
in my practice i found it difficult for patients who couldnt  afford
private care to find good family planning services
money spent on family planning prevents a lot of unwanted pregnancies
unwanted kids cost society a lot of money over the years
just ask those who care for foster kids
they see what happens first hand

when the kids are here then help provide them a way to develop
those first few years to stay healthy and get early childhood education
money spent here will save society a lot more as they get older
its expensive to house inmates in prison
pay now or pay a lot more later

cut the budget dont cut the poor
if you cut the budget you need to find other revenues
maybe tax those making over $250000 more

its obscene to see how little some people in that category pay
in taxes every year

a writer who had inherited wealth recently disclosed that he made
a four figure salary but paid less than 10% in taxes
at least obama paid his share of taxes this year
he is practicing what he preaches although with the higher brackets
he would pay more

dont break the poors back please
