new words

NEW WORDS
Image result for merriam webster
every year new words get formed
we my wife she and i notice new words just pop into
our use

the latest one we learned when friends were visiting
recently
i asked what does that mean
they said
just gts it
gts it
what do you mean gts
you know
google that stuff

so
my wife she and i
well especially her
says to me when i ask what that means
she says
gts it
with a smirk i might add

so
i looked at this website that listed words that were new
by the year they were introduced
you know
like
google it

i remember when i first heard that on my garden show
i heard the gardener guru say
just have them google it
so
i went to see what google meant
but
there was no google to google it
to see what it meant

we have come a long way havent we
why
just yesterday our screen door on our condo
wouldnt close good
so
i just googled how to adjust a screen door that wont close
there was a picture and explanation
on how to do it

that google
best word ever developed
besides
maybe
amazon

where did you get that
oh i amazoned it yesterday
it was on my porch when i got up this morning

heck
i wanted this particular liquid fertilizer i used in texas
since i couldnt find it here
so
i amazoned it
yep
it was on our steps the next day
how do that do that i asked someone last night

ok
google it they said

merriam webster dictionary folks have a site
you can type in the year to see what words
were developed that year
so
i picked out
the year i was born 1950
the year i graduated from high school 1968
the last year listed 2016

here are some examples

in 2016
there was just one word
utility token whatever that is

in 1950
action figure antimatter baby oil beautiful people
boobaby cardiac arrest charge card dwi dry wall
fold out mccarthyism pap smear shopping mall
sweat equity tank top
wonder what words they used for these things
before 1950

in 1968
alt key blind carbon copy better known now as bcc
car seat correction fluid chairbroil do rag m16
peace sign peace symbol talk radio travelers diarrhea
yippie

so i would say the most important word that has
come around since 1950
google
google it
gts it

ok ill add amazon

these have changed things  a lot
ok
ill add
facebook
smartphones

alzheimers news-its not fair

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-ITS NOT FAIR
Image result for organicgreendoctor.com joe nash
its not fair
that im still here and he is gone
we were born almost a year apart
we were really
almost like twins
fraternal twins
we were different but we did a lot together
some of it mischievous
quite mischievous

i wont give you any details
even though the statue of limitations are past

we have the same genetic background
now i know i have the homozygous double apoe 4 genes
im sure he had at least one if not two of them
he probably got two of those late onset alzheimers apoe 4genes

it doesnt seem fair though
that he got it so young in his early 50s
then once diagnosed
it seemed he just had a steady decline
down that final slide that people with alzheimers disease
have
one that once it starts cant be stopped

even in the future when new treatments come along
i doubt that when the slide starts that even this stuff
will work

he died in the last stages of alzheimers in august 2013
at the age of 62
i was 63
i had been diagnosed almost 3 years before he died with
mild cognitive impairment due to alzheimers disease
my memory had started a slow decline during this time
but
for some reason he has stopped that decline

i really thought that today at 68 that i would be where he was
when he was diagnosed
meaning that that decline would have started to begin
for me

it hasnt
my memory is stable
if not better
my health knock on wood seems to be good

why me
why not him

i think i was sort of lucky by accidentally having my memory issues
picked up real early before it was noticed
i had volunteered to be in the adni alzheimers study in the normal group

my early diagnosis made me change my life before symptoms showed up
being aggressive doing all the healthy things that one needs to do
to slow things down

its been shown that early diagnosis does alter that downward trajectgory
so that the decline when it happens gets pushed down the road some

when he was diagnosed it was probably too late to do much intervention
since its being shown that if we are going to stop this disease
it has to happen in folks before they have have symptoms
or
in folks extremely early in the disease process like i am

looking at whats going on in alzheimers research
there will likely be a treatment or treatments in 10 years
that will slow down the disease or stop it in its tracks

i think
what if that stuff had been available 15 years or so ago
for him and my mom
they both might still be with us
as would many of your loved ones

so
get diagnosed early
maximize your health
blood pressure cholesterol weight exercise diabetes sleep mental health issues
stay mentally active
consider supplements
volunteer for a clinical study see clinical trials.gov
youll know where you are with the diagnosis so when its time
for you to get treatment then you will know if you have it or not

his birthday is on april 8th
he would have been 67
he died in hospice on august 8 2013
he is missed by friends and family
especially his wife and kids and grandkids and siblings

we all would like to be able to see his smile again

we need a treatment and cure for this awful awful disease

dear ms b-the gardener

DEAR MS B-THE GARDENER

a year ago you came to stay at the country n
for a week
while there we introduced you to garden dirt
although you were a little squeamish at first about the dirt
you eventually went all in
both hands deep into the soil
getting dirt under those pretty little finger nails

what happens is you get  inoculated with the good
germs in the soil
that may help boost your immune system

thats why farm kids dont get sick as much
and
dont usually have as much problems with allergies
and asthma

we were just making you more healthy

you also learned to pet a chicken
pick up the eggs
pick up and hold the worms in the garden
a fear you no longer possess

now
fast forward one year
you readily go into the community garden
talk to the chickens
feed them food scraps and old bread
pick up the eggs
change the water in the bird bath with the
pretty blue bird on the edge of it
you reach down and sometimes pick one of the
strawberries that grows in the kids garden
some of which i help maintain and plant

last week
since i was given access to another garden plot
i designated a 4 ft square section for you
we added compost fertilizer and liquid molasses

then
i chose two tomatoes
a juliette and a sungold
both proliferative cherry like tomatoes that
should grow most of the year
and
that you will love to pick and eat while in the garden

you even like the sound of them
and
repeated them back to me
juliette
sungold
you dug the hole
added a spade of worm compost
mixed it all in the hole
then
we emptied the tomato out of the pot
down into the hole
we then watered it in good with the watering can
then
we placed a taller than me bamboo pole
tied the tomato to the pole
now
we are just waiting for the tomatoes to grow

we also
added some bush french green beans
that you will love to eat off the vine
then
we dug another hole
slid the big pumpkin plant into the hole
covered it up and watered it real good

what a big ole pumpkin you should have for
halloween this year
then
we planted those pretty christmas lima beans
those big calico colored beans that all the kids like
to play with
so later in the fall we can pick them
maybe youll eat some of them

yes
we are getting you indoctrinated into the green world
it seems to be to your liking

you are now
officially
a gardener
