the good the bad the ugly

THE GOOD THE BAD THE UGLY
there was a lot of this going around here this weekend

the horns won
they just beat the heck out of the sooners
where oh where have they been all season
heres hoping they play like this the rest of the season
then mack can retire with some dignity
it is time you know

the hogs lost well they lost bad
theyve got a lot of ugly games to go
not a good season im afraid

thanks goodness the cowboys won
but they did lose two starters ware and murray

the ugly occurred as the texans fans cheered as
their quarterback lay on the ground injured
tasteless like the eagles fans
heck they booed santa claus one time

kxan.com
then we got a ton of rain around here
it flooded things in austin and the surrounding areas
of course we only got a 1/4 inch
thats the ugly
but
i did get to do a lot of ranch work here at the country n
before the rain started

the acl fest day two was canceled as the zilker park was
partially under water
some bands went to local venues and played anyway
good ole austin

then something happened and sewage got mixed in with
all that runoff
wonder where it goes and do you want to ski swim or
fish wherever it goes
dont think i would

all that rain still may not have happened enough on the watershed
of the lake travis and the other highland lakes that supply much
of the water around here
well see as the week progresses

in south austin a lady who was 6 months pregnant did not
heed that warning
dont drown just turn around
she had to be rescued
she couldnt get her windows down to get out
so someone came and broke her windows and pulled
her to safety

folks thats one of my fears is running into deep water
and not being able to lower my windows to climb out
so
in two of my vehicles i have the old type of roll down windows
this aint going to happen to me

then
you know im a big supporter of obamacare
so i was successful yesterday in opening up an account
and answering all those security questions
now which pet was that was my favorite
hope i can remember the answers

then
when i excitedly tried to go farther to complete the applications
it failed
granted on sunday am i couldnt get on my credit unions website
or my investment website either

hopefully i will be able to finish this up
since i have 2 more months to do it
just hope others not as motivated as i am dont give up

so it was
a good
a bad
a ugly
weekend

habitat, tanks done, kites

HABITAT
each week as i work at the habitat for humanity house i have
more respect for those skilled people in the construction
industry and the adverse weather they have to work in

it was cold on saturday am
it was at 32 degrees and was windy
but there we were our there working
they do this every day in the winter
we do it only once or twice a week

thanks skilled craftsman and workers for the work you do

now i remember why i dont like to put up insulation as
i helped put up the insulaton in the walls
its now 48 hours later and im still itching

ive done a lot of building stuff and thought i knew a lot
about carpentry painting insulating tools
but after a few weeks i realize how little i knew

have learned a lot
how to use tools and power tools ive not used before
how to cut those dang angles on things i couldnt figure out
the one skill i have not worked on though is roofing
my wife she said no getting on the roof
(she better watch out or ill throw a snake on her)

she didnt want me to be on that ladder list or be one of the
ladder guys
(my patients usually males would fall off ladders and i would
call them ladder guys and tell them they were on the ladder list)

there was a big pile of concrete that was about to be broken
up and thrown in the large dumpster to be hauled off
but i rescued it
my wife she and i went up yesterday to the site and broke up the
concrete with a sledge hammer
well i did the sledge hammer work

we took the good pieces and made a bed for the home owners
flower bed
the flat pieces and small pieces ive brought home to use in a project here
at the country n

just need to recycle stuff as much as we can

i also dumpster dived at the site and pulled out what cardboard i could
retrieve to use in making the owner her square foot garden
wasnt easy as the dumpster is one of those tall ones that require
a ladder to climb up on it
no i didnt join the ladder list

TANKS DONE
my wife she and i and a teacher sponsor and student put in place
a rain water tank that holds 2500 gallons at a building on campus
at one of the local large high schools

think everyone was skeptical that it would fit and work
but ive done several of these large tanks
usually by myself

we dug out a pad for the tank
moved it about 30 feet to sit under the down spout
leveled it
put in the faucet for the hoses
put on a screen on the top opening for the water to go through

now just add rain and they are ready to go

KITES
this weekend was the kite festival here in austin texas
its located at the large park
the one where the acl music festival is every year
there are usually 20000+ people that show up
here are some pictures from the local paper and some from
a local tv station

there are all kinds of kites and people there
the kids have a great time

here at the country n we would have an annual party and
the kids (of all ages) use to love to fly kites
its just something special flying a kite

this years festival was being threatened by a lack of funding
there was concerns that it may have to be discontinued
but they managed to pull it off again this year
hope they can continue to fund it as
so many people enjoy this weekend and festival

lets keep those kites flying
before a generation goes by and never gets to experience
kite flying

9/11/11, football, acl fest, bastrop fire

POST 9/11/01

this is a photo of the stadium of war memorial stadium in little rock
arkansas as they played their game on saturday
even the hog was red white and blue
nice tribute

this is a photo of my nephew mac nash in his marine dress uniform
during a 9-11-11 weekend ceremony
mac is home on leave and is due to be deployed to afghanistan soon

the american flag he is carrying will be taken with him on his
deployment there soon

my wife she and i would like to thank mac and all those other
military men and women
who are serving our country over seas and at home
thanks mac
may you have a safe journey
our thoughts will always be with you

will always remember where i was at on 9-11-01
i was coming out of a patients room that day when
i heard the stunning news
everything seemed to stop that day
we were all glued to the tv for days seeing videos and listening
to the commentators discussing what was happening
that memory will always be there of that day

thinking of those lost that day
may we not have more of this to deal with

FOOTBALL
i oded on football this weekend
my two teams i follow the horns and the hogs both
won
horns tried to lose in the first half but things kicked in good
in the second half-they are using a lot of freshman so should
only get better as the season progresses
tough schedule though for this young team

hogs just flat out dominated the game-nuff said

then there is the other team i follow-the boys in the nfl
was a good game but the ending was a disappointment
this game will come back to haunt them
its a game they may wish they had won

maybe next week will be better for the boys

ACL FEST
the acl fest is this weekend
thats the austin city limits music festival featuring over 100 different
groups
dont plan on coming to austin for other things this weekend as you
wont be able to find a place to stay

one of the websites for information is http://lineup.aclfestival.com/

my wife she and son usually buy their tickets on craigs list

top groups are stevie wonder, kanye west, arcade, my morning
jacket, fleet foxes, allison kraus and others
it will be in the mid 90s
clear
no rain of course but if it does enjoy it
the grass at zilker park is is good shape so maybe it wont be a
dust bowl yet
good music
thousands will attend

BASTROP FIRE
the bastrop texas fire just south of austin is 50% contained
it has burned over 34000 acres and has burned over 1500 homes
talked to some one who saw the area and said it looked like
the moon or like a nuclear bomb had gone off there

there are 22 people unaccounted for but only 2 confirmed deaths
many of the unaccounted for people may be with friends and
relatives or out of town

that picture of the big old airplane picture that i posted in this blog
last week-well...
it never got used on the bastrop fire
it sat at the airport for several days then when it took off
it went to another fire near houston texas
the bastrop fire is the worst fire ever in texas
could have used those plane drops of water
to slow this down last week

maybe there will be explanations only good ones please not
excuses for some of the delays that occurred in fighting this
destructive fire

we need rain please
or the first wind that blows here will restart all of this
its drier here now than the dust bowl from the 30s

may your week be a better one
