its the most shameful chapter i have seen in the years ive spent
in congress
no it wasnt harry reid
it was john mccain

i think most of us would agree with him
to the brink they took us for no real reason
it cost us 15+billions of dollars
it cost them the politicians a lot
and the republican party probably the most

i say throw all the bums out and let just start all over again

when i was in practice i knew that most people didnt take the meds
i prescribed
heck some didnt even get the prescription filled
now
that im a patient im really not better than you guys were
well im one of you now

i went into my medicine cabinet and looked and oh my goodness
there is all those half empty pill bottles or should i say
half full
they are not my wife shes either

but
for my alzheimers meds blood pressure meds cholesterol meds and
my aspirin i dont ever ever miss those
well usually i dont

recently i ran across this new prescription that was being handed out
in new york
its called the fruit and vegetable prescription program

in this program obese and overweight patients are given a prescription
for veggies and fruits and given health bucks which are redeemable at
local farmers markets

the patients come in and get weighed and their body mass index
is measured
and they are given nutritional counseling
the results have been good

one family has seen a 40 lb weight loss in their son and other kids have
lost weight also

its interesting eg when i helped plant those gardens at the school
that the kids ate samples of kale spinach cilantro swiss chard etc things
many had never had before
they plant it and theyll eat it

one of the problems the poor have sometimes is the lack of good
access to fresh fruits and vegetables especially in the inner cities

maybe more doctors should write these prescriptions for their patients
and as i know more about alzheimers hypertension diabetes
high cholesterol heart disease etc
these are as important as the prescription meds

rx     fresh fruits and vegetables-organic if available
#      1 month supply
sig    take once or twice a day until the prescription is all gone

WART REMOVAL
the american academy of family physicians journal this month
published an article on wart removal
no i didnt write it but
if you were one of my patients you will recognize the first line
recommendations

first treatement is dont
67% of warts will be gone in 2 years
cost zero

2nd line of treatment
73% of warts will be gone eventually after treatment
cost minimal
no office visit required

from article directions (sounds familiar)
obtain salicyclic wart treatment from pharmacy or store
soak the wart area in warm water for five minutes
file or rub down any rough areas with a pumice stone
or emory board
apply the salicyclic acid to the wart
cover with duct tape (my duct tape post for the week)
repeat daily until wart is gone
may take several weeks
dont use the salicylic acid on the face

3rd choice for those 27-33% that dont respond
50-70% effective
the over the counter freezing units may not work as well as
the office ones
if these are used the treatments need to be repeated probably
several times over several weeks or
go to the doctor and get it frozen
will probably take several visits

a few warts wont respond to this and will need
other treaments

now will soon be able to get them as generics

wonder why viagra is not generic as it was produced first in the
mid 1990s
wont they be one that people are looking forward to it going generic
but when that happens there will not be any more of those
good commercials you get to watch with your kids and parents

PLANKING
the planking journey continues

DONE DEAL
well its a done deal
why did it take so long to do it
think they were just jacking with us

maybe our 401k values will go up today
since they went down on friday
a crisis was averted but
more work needs to be done

wonder where those cuts are going to be
here in texas it was mainly on the backs of the poor and
on the kids via education

cuts are good but we have to have more revenues
also where could we find them
lets start with those with incomes over the middle income levels
as the middle income folks are suffering the most now
and of course those mean old oil companies could be taxed
more and desubsidized

still like the idea of a new political party that is made of the
people in the middle of the political spectrum-thats the real majority

DANG DAN
dang that dan he just fizzled out
he hit the coast of southern texas and it was like a wall
there was hardly any rain out of the storm at all
texas continues to suffer the worst drought maybe ever

my rainwater levels are getting dangerously low again
we sure needed that rain
hope i dont have to purchase water

last october when we got a 10 inch rain i had 3 of my large
tanks unhooked so i lost a huge amount of rain that day and
then in may we had 6 inches of rain total here but
at that time i was redoing a gutter and had several tanks unhooked
and lost over half of that rain
my fault bad timing to do repairs so
may actually purchase water today just to be safe to have some
reserve

if i had not been disconnected on those two days i would have
plenty of rainwater available
i am in the process of reconnecting lines so that all my rainwater
tanks are now reconnected back together so this wont happen
again
bad timing

i see a large storm brewing in the atlantic maybe we will get some
rain from it
dang it must have been rough being a farmer and rancher in the old
days

SHARK WEEK




every august i look forward to shark week on discovery
its a good break between the summer and the start of football
how can those guys dare to swim with those big old white sharks
are they stupid or what

yesterday they put this diver in a big plexiglass cage and put him in
the water with the big great white sharks then
they took the guy out and put in some bloody meat
none of the meat was in the water at all but this big ole great white
shark came in at full speed and rammed the plexiclass cage and
broke the side of the cage

bet that diver wet his suit

sugar on the brain, debt limit, usausaus, series

SUGAR ON THE BRAIN
if you are someone who talks a lot on the cell phone
with it stuck in your ear then you may not want to
read the rest of this blog

one of the tests that i had done and will have every year
for the next 5 years is a pet scan that measures glucose
(one of the sugars) metabolism in the brain
they give you a radioactive labeled glucose that is given
intravenously then they do the scan
areas with abnormal or increased activity show up

so they had people hold the cell phone up to the ear and
turn it on but not talk on it or listen to anything on it

(that must have been real hard for people to do-its like
putting crack in front of a crack addict and telling them not
to use it)
and then measured brain glucose metabolism with a mri or
a pet scan
(wonder if they picked up anyone with early alzheimers)

what happens is that the part of the brain where the cell
phone antenna sits is the area that had the increased glucose
metabolism which shows that the radio frequency waves do
affect the brain activity

this cant be good for you
makes you want to use a hands free phone huh
just dont let it sit in your lap

more research is needed to be done to see what effects
long term this could have
there are millions of people they could test
they could start first with my wife she

DEBT LIMIT
just raise the dam debt limit and be done with it
makes me want to vote all of the representatives and senators
out right now
its a good thing this is not an election year

moodys is looking to down grade the us government rating from
their triple a rating
if this happens it will be devastating to our economy

just raise the debt limit-it has to be done
but do your cuts (start with their salaries first maybe 10%)
but you have to raise taxes some way too

it seems both sides are out of touch with reality
in the real world we all cut our expenses but also look for
other sources of revenue to help our bottom line

why cant the us government do the same

sure hope the biggest holder of our debt doesnt get pissed off
or we will all be speaking chinese

USAUSAUSA
so in soccer sometimes the team that plays the best game doesnt
always win
thats what happened yesterday with the us womens world cup
soccer game with france yesterday
france out played the usa until the last few minutes when the
usa suddenly came alive and scored two quick goals

this team has the karma and are now in the final game on
sunday against japan (i wanted them to play sweden for
a rematch)

hope solo is now the poster player for this team

go usa beat japan

SERIES
starting tomorrow i will write a three part series on my trip
