NEW BP MONITOR
when i was in practice patients were always asking me what
monitors to buy
i usually recommended whatever the consumer reports recommended
as they have a good track record on evaluating products
i use to not recommend the wrist ones as they were not accurate
now consumer reports have evaluated two wrist models that appear
to be accurate
they both are held against the heart when the bp is being taken
which reduces errors
the two are the omron 7 series bp652 for $60 and the rite aid
automatic rc210 at $50
they rated 11 arm monitors that all were accurate and reasonably
priced in the october 2011 issue
the best value was the relion hem-74crel at walmart at $46
the best overall was the omron 10 series bp785 at $80
the easiest to use were cvs advanced bp3mv1-1ecvs at $60
the microlife deluxe automatic bp3na1-1x at $70
the panasonic ew 3152 w at $130
how to choose
make sure they fit well to get an accurate reading
all of these were found to be accurate
make sure the one you choose is easy for you to use
many have mulitple features to average bp, check for
irregular rhythms, and to tell you if your bp is too high, etc
if youre real techy the ihealth dock bp3 may be for you
at $100
my choice is the recommended best value
easy to use and is cheap and doesnt have all the techy stuff
just the accurate bp reading please is all thats really needed
PRES WARREN
we had one president with the name of warren
why not another one
make him an independent candidate though
he feels like he could fix things by making a law or amendment
that if the gdp doesnt reach 3% then congress cant get reelected
of course i think none of them should get reelected any way
(maybe if the tea partiers and the occupiers of wall street ran
things then between the two a lot of things would be done that
need to be done)
am sure warren would be glad to tax the 1 % more also
which includes himself
maybe he could be the new american select candidate
we need somebody that will get something done
he has a good track record
FB MUSING

50000, stuff, fb funny
50000
my blog hit the 50,000 viewing yesterday
my most popular blog is the last day thanks december 22, 2010
most of my viewers are from the united states but other
top five countries are united kingdom, germany, russia, china, and
the netherlands
the majority of my readers are from texas, arkansas and california
but you come diffusely to this blog from around the united states
this is the 13th month of my blog so
maybe it will hit 100,000 in 1 year
thanks again to all the readers for reading this blog and responding
to it via email. facebook, twitter, blog comments, phone calls, texts,
and personal conversations
STUFF
the chinese are sending its first space station lab into space
its a sign that we are loosing ground in the space race
is it just something else we are loosing to them
they already own part of our country and somewhat influence a lot
of what is happening here
scary huh
google is financing solar system installations
most home systems cost $20-30000 to install
most people cant afford that so google is funding solar companies
via loans to install these systems on your house and you pay
for the electricity it produces for a long term lease with
no upfront money and electric rates that are lower than what
you pay now
why are they doing this
they are not able to manufacture all their electricity they use so they
are offsetting it by offering this program
eg youre paying $150 a month for electricity
they put the panels on your house and the panels generate electricity
you pay an agreed upon rate for the electricity you use so you
pay only eg $100 a month for x years
the lease goes with the house if it is sold
google gets the incentives for putting in the solar and the interest on
the loans and someone makes something off the excess electricity
that is produced
i am strongly considering using this to put up more solar panels on
my property to supplement the ones i have now
i actually may be able to sell my panels and pay a electric bill each
month to google or a google contracted entity
i will be almost totally googled when that happens
FB FUNNY
thanks to ln for this
hi say to wanted really i but this read to time your all took you

weather, we got next, lost medical records, fb musing
WEATHER
we have officially become the hottest summer on record
here in central texas
and there seems to be more coming as the next 7 days are
predicted to be 102 degrees or higher
dang 95 is going to seem like a cool spell when it finally
arrives here
have noticed some of the native trees and shrubs deemed the
toughest we have are starting to show the effects of the heat
and drought by yellowing its leaves
less tougher trees are dying much faster
there are fires everyday around here
luckily except for a few they have not been major ones
there is water rationing everywhere
its even stricter here at the country n
there are plans to start rolling power outages in this area soon
this will make things more uncomfortable than they already are
we need rain so
WE GOT NEXT
we got next
hurricane irene is going full blast now towards the east coast
and has little influence on our weather here
we could sure use some of its rain
there is a new tropical storm abrewing out east that may
become a storm in the next 1-2 days
we want that one please
send it our way but in a gentler form please
its our only hope to a break in this awful weather here
we got next
LOST MEDICAL RECORDS
recently a huge number of patients medical records were
accidentally released onto the internet for all to see
those may be lost forever
they are out there for everyone to access
possibly they may not be able to be totally retrieved even if
the breach is closed
in my dealings with the medical systems and insurance systems
over the last 8 months i have realized that my medical records
are zooming all over the internet from universities to research
centers to insurance companies-long term care, disability, and health
each of these companies seem to use other companies to handle
some of the data processing so multiple companies and
organizations are involved with my medical records
they are being mailed, faxed, emailed, and electronically transferred
to be permanently stored in lots of locations
one breach could release all my medical information to the internet
thats all scary
even though most of what is happening to me medically im putting
in this blog for all to read however
most people dont want their medical information floating around
the internet for google to pick up from a search
FB MUSING
life is like a roll of toilet paper it spins faster as it gets near the end
thanks fb friend

eat thin, aint right, fb musing
EAT THIN
from yahoo
here are 5 foods to keep you thin
apple-besides an apple a day keeps the doctor away
it apparently makes you feel full after eating it and has
a lot of fiber in it
almonds-they have a lot of protein and good fat and also
make you feel full after eating them
salmon-is low in calories and has high protein in it
eggs-have a lot of protein
eating them in the morning makes you feel full
of course here at the country n we eat free range organic eggs
which are even tastier and healthier
tomatoes-are tasty, have a lot of fiber, and can make you
fill full and have low calories in them
interesting
i have an apple a day to keep the doctor away, a fresh egg each
morning, a handful of nuts each morning, a tomato every day,
but dont eat that salmon often
guess 4 out of 5 is not bad
AINT RIGHT
this story aint right
its 2 weeks old but everytime i read about it it bothers me
i always think of the movie roadtrip where the guy sends his
waffles back to the kitchen because they did not taste right
that was a mistake
what happened to that waffle before it got back to him was
not pretty
in this area a grocery store chain noticed that their meat department
was missing a lot of meat that just disappeared
the police set up a sting operation and
yep if you watched that movie youll know where the thieves were
putting those packages of meat
yep they had put the packages in their package spot and
walked out of the store with it
the bad thing was they went to some local bbq places and sold
the meat to them at a discount
havent really wanted bbq since i read this story
then a local bbq critic for a magazine said i dont care about where
it came from i care about how they cook it
sorry hes wrong
guess he hasnt seen the movie
FB MUSINGS
i enjoy reading fb musings
people are so witty and some do it consistantly
maybe they should do a fb musing blog
here are some
i take back all those times when i was a kid and did not want
to take my afternoon naps
(benefit of retirement is that now you can take those afternoon naps)
love is when your children think of integrity and fairness they think
of you
how far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and
tolerant of the weak and strong
because some day in your life you will be all of these

the talk, walk to end, fb musings
THE TALK
one of the things i wanted to do when i was diagnosed with
mild cognitive impairment amnestic type was to eventually
start giving talks on alzhiemers disease using my story as
a vehicle to educate people about this alzheimers disease
i wanted to wait until i was stable on my medications and
was through with most of my testing that i needed to do
well now thats all done
i have the unique opportunity of being a family physician who
has treated people with the disease, of being a family member
of family that had or have the disease and now someone who
probably has the disease
(100 % diagnosis only at brain autopsy)
because of this i feel like a have a unique perspective on this
disease as i am and have seen it from all sides
none of it is enjoyable
i gave my first presentation last week
i hope to do more as i have a window of time that i will be able
to do this and communicate my story
i did an one hour skype presentation to a small group in
louisina
i did a 15 minute talk and then allowed the group to ask me
questions about alzheimers
i also threw in some discussion of organic living, green living,
rain water harvesting and solar but the majority of the time
was spent talking about alzhiemers disease
thanks to khh for setting this up
(the big A may be replacing the big C as the disease people
are worrying about
am i going to get it, or my parents or my kids)
i look forward to doing more of these
as i told my story and what happened to me
this allowed me to inform them about alzhiemers disease-
whats coming in the future, whats happening now, how to get
diagnosed, and where to get help
if you or someone you know would like me to give my talk
and answer questions i would be glad to do that
just contact me via facebook or this blog or email

new middle, farmers, hurricane, fb musing
NEW MIDDLE
this debt limit crisis is making me fed up with politics
dont mess with our economy
both political parties are to blame
neither side should get a free pass on this
this is how washington doesnt work
the republicans have become too far to the right on issues and
the democrats are too far to the left
its the middle america that decides every election
they just seem to pick the lesser of two evils
always said we need a new party called the middle party
because thats where most of us are politically
the only problem is that this party would always dominate
the democrats and republicans as both would be always
out numbered
well apparently according to this article in the new york times
-make way for the radical middle-there is a new party
forming for the next election on the internet
the first state ballot they will be on is in california
could this be the start of that third party that we probably
need to balance out all those special interests that really
run things on both sides now
the website is called http://www.americanselect.org/
it may be a good start to a fresh approach to politics
FARMERS
its so hot and dry here now that we all are suffering from the
heat (my lower porch at 6 am was still warm from the day before
it already started out in the mid 80s in the cool of the early am)
the farmers are really suffering
some have even shut down production for the fall
they have to plant now for the fall season
tuff to do in this hot dry weather
support them at your farmers markets as much as possible
we dont want to lose them and have to totally depend on
whoever and wherever produces those veggies at the grocery store
HURRICANE
we need rain
our hope lies in a hurricane developing in the gulf
well that tropical wave has gone from yellow to red and
from a 10% chance to a 70% chance and is headed our way
hopefully it doesnt get diverted by that big high thats making
us all suffer
stay tuned

buford, rain yes, data, fb musing
BUFORD
so this is buford wyoming population of 1
its the highest town between ny and san francisco on i80
its also the smallest town in the us with its on zip code
the mayor said the town meetings were interesting
he always gets his way
maybe well visit there on our wyoming tour next summer
RAIN YES
was awaken from a noon time nap by the rain falling on our
metal roof
thats a great feeling lying in bed and listening to that rain
fall on the roof
made me want to go back to sleep
we have a rain chain that is about 15 feet long and its so
relaxing to sit on the top deck and watch the rain water
move downwards along the chain to our rain water tank
we are getting low on our rainwater here
but considering the drought we are in we are doing ok
we have enough water now for about 2 months
hopefully well get some rain by then
the 1/4inch we had yesterday and the 1/4 inch we had
last week helped out some
have reduced watering anything except my garden
its interesting to see what plants are surviving this
drought without any supplemental water
they are mostly all native plants
salvia greggi, turks cap, rosemary, 4 nerve daisy, blackfoot
daisy, oregano, zexmenia, sage, germania, shrimp plant,
knockout rose, orchid tree, texas persimmon, texas plum,
trumpet vine, lavender, sun flowers, gregs mist flower,
texas hibiscus, butterfly bush, cedar sage are just some
that are doing well in this drought
whatever survives after this drought is what ill keep around
more rain please
DATA
so in the us the cell companies are 80% full in their data capacity
now they will start charging us more for our data use
since we live so far out we have to use either a satellite system or
use a cell phone data plan
we chose the verizon cell phone data plan as it allows the computer
to run slightly faster
well now every month we get this message that we are
exceeding our data limit on the computer usage
we dont download much on the computer because of the speed
knew they would eventually stick it to us
now they are
on our smart phones we have unlimited data and wont get hit
with the extra charge
or so they claim
FB MUSING
thanks ag for this

sure would like her for a daughter in law
so yes there is hope for the future
CURSIVE DONE FOR
so it looks like cursive handwriting in the schools are done for
as most states dont require it to be taught
man i wished i could have gone to school in this day and time
all of the times i suffered with handwriting (and those who tried to
read it)
its not because im a doctor that i cant write correctly
i fit the perfect stereotype of the doctor who has bad handwriting
just ask the nurses that have worked with me for years and those
pharmacists that interpreted my prescriptions for the patient
now that is no more
of course i cant print worth a dam either
in my office i would write backwards for the kids on my exam
table paper to entertain the kids
they could look at the back side of the paper to read it or hold
it up to a mirror to read it
but some of them couldnt read it even then
(funny thing was my writing was better when i wrote backwards)
the computer and keyboarding has been a great saver for those of
us who have the disability of bad godawful handwriting
know the nurses and pharmacists and other doctors sure
appreciated it when i used it to do my notes and prescriptions
on the computer
now those kids wont be tortured by teachers and others berating
them for their poor writing (i got many a bad grade in handwriting
during my school years)
guess this is progress
FB MUSINGS
thanks cs for this one
thought of this when thinking of the packing we did for our two
recent trips
when preparing for a trip lay out all of your clothes and all of your
money
then take half the clothes and twice the money
yep found this to be so true

FB MUSING
i read facebook every day
its a good way to keep up with whats going on in the world
and with friends and family
so many people are so witty
and can give one liner wittisms
here is one from a regular contributor to wittisms
so her priest tells a joke every week
so a man goes to a doctor
later the doctor calls in the wife and told
her that the man needed some rest and peace
here was some sleeping pills
she asked when does she give them to him
the doctor says you dont give them to him
they are for you
guess what sex laughed and what sex didnt
HABOOB

so this haboob hit phoenix yesterday
a haboob is a sandstorm
they occur in arab countries
it hit phoemix yesteday as a result of a rainstorm that hit the area
it was 50 miles long at one point
it affected the electricity, it affected traffic, and it really
screwed up plane traffic in phoenix
planes were grounded for several hours
well my younger son he flew in to phoenix but was stuck there
that afternoon and evening
it must be a sign as he was to be on the same flights we were on
when we had our flight fun last week
he waited in the same waiting areas we did until the storm went
through and the air traffic got cleared to leave
at least he didnt have to board that plane three times like we did
can you imagine how gritty your eyes and teeth would be in a
storm like that
and how dirty your hair would feel
and just think if all the dusting you would have to do after that
storm left
maybe thats why i dreamed this vivid dream last night about
vacuuming up a large amount of dirt out of the carpet and
stopping up my wife shes vacuum cleaner (now its mine)
thanks aricept(donepezil) for the dream
(a side efffect of the medication)
