the flex account was designed to allow you to take money
out of your pay check tax free
to use for medical expenses or daycare expenses
the higher your tax bracket the higher the amount you save


so if you max it out at $2500
your bracket is 30%
you save $750 in taxes
your bracket is 20%
you save $500
if your bracket is 10%
you save $250

it seems worthwhile to me to do it
so
last year we put back $1800
based on our estimated medical and dental expenses
so
we saved at 20% tax bracket
$360 in taxes

so this should be a no brainer thing to do
straight forward it should be
we use a flex card thats hooked to a mastercard
just slide it through and make the payment
for services rendered
its all done electronically

right

how do they make a lot of money those flex guys
they hope you dont figure out how the system works
so at the end of year if you have money left
and
if you dont use it they get to keep it
and
apparently thats what a lot of people do

but not me no the ogd does not leave that money on
the table

(heres a secret way to win against them
i did it because they made me mad
when i knew i was leaving my practice
i used up all my flex money for the year from my
flex account even though i only paid two months
on it
it was for $1500
they had to eat all that money

i made the mistake of calling then once
man they are rude
even said some bad words as i laid the phone down
didnt know i had not disconnected the phone

i think they make it difficult to work the system
they deny claims it seems randomly
like they always deny our dental claim

no i send to them
we dont have dental insurance
since we come out ahead by not having it
and using our flex card to pay our dental bill
that is if you would ever pay the dang bill
like you are suppose to

then ive noticed that as it gets closer to the end of the year
they seem to do more denying claims
hoping i guess that you want refile

well they dont know me i guess

so i had $95 left in the account
and only 2 weeks left to use it up
with no expected medical bills left to pay
so
i scrounged around looked on the internet again
what can i deduct
there it was
medical mileage to and from the dentist doctor hospital
pharmacy physical therapy etc

so since i go to dallas twice a year
thats 180 miles x 2 x $0.235/mile = $82.8 i could deduct
for that trip
so i added on two trips to the doctor last year
to get my $95+
i always throw in extra since they try to get out of paying for
one of them

so i faxed it in
denied
so i redid it and faxed it in
denied
went on their website and found this form for challenging a denial
denied

so i was getting mad now
theres no way i was calling them again
so i found another form and faxed it in
claim approved it said
checks in the mail

so i won at least i feel like i won
but i shoudnt have to work so hard to win

now dont yall let those guys keep your money

i win

i have had several battles with my flex account this year
but after a lot of effort and documentation i finally won
total winnings were $1800
it was my money not theirs but they tried their best to keep it
im glad im retired or i wouldnt have the time to fight this battle

one person i helped had over $3600 dollars they had tied up
in disputed claims
try to talk to a knowledgeable person on the phone
they dont exists
there is not someone who you can talk to that will help you

sir we need the documentation in order to pay

through a lot of effort by this person and myself we finally got
the documentation we needed and found a lot of less known
deductions you could take but we finally got things where
she will not loose all her money

and we were not even talking to someone from india or pakistan

we have decided here at the country n that theyre not worth the

15% its hard to believe someone making that much money only pays

RAIN
the problem with rain in central texas is that we either dont get any rain
or we get it in bunches all at once
like tonight
cant wait to see how much rain we have and are getting

i am still only 50% full on all my tanks so i want all the rain i
can capture for my rainwater system
before each rain i adjust my system to maximize my rain collection
all roofs collect rainwater-garage, well house, bbq area, barn, and
even my arbour and of course my house
i also put out all my 5 gallon buckets
and do i have a collection ive accumulated over the years

this collecting rain water takes a lot of effort
but its always worth it when you take a shower or
wash your hair or wash your clothes or take a nice
cold drink of pure water out of the tap

LATTE FACTOR


there is a thing called the latte factor
if you dont know what it is then you may be
losing thousands of dollars

if you buy this latte for $3.50 every day for 1 year
you will have spent $1277.50 a year plus tax
in 10 years you will have spent $12,775.00 plus tax

BEAT THE FLEX
as mentioned in a previous blog one of my new goals besides
teaching people about organic gardening, rainwater collection,
green living, and alzheimers i have added beating your flex
to my repertoire

last year after a several months battle with our flex account
company....
what morons you have to talk to
and they are not even overseas
at least those people overseas dont speak the language well
and dont understand americans
but the flex people are one of us

i eventually won by finding other expenses to cover the
lab expense they should have reimbursed for but refused

so ive won against them three times this year

if you are leaving your job you can use up all your flex money
before you leave even though you have not paid in all the years
dedicated amount
they lose you win
they really win because they keep thousands of dollars from people
every year

this year i used up all my flex money the first month of the year
ours starts in october
and got it reimbursed already
$1800 even though have paid $150 so far

then in september i got expenses i discovered were covered as they
denied my other claims right before the dead line
the lady who spoke good english at the flex company told me
i guess you know what you are doing then
as i got all my money back from them

dont let the flex people keep your money
its your money not theirs
its theirs if you let them win
dont let them win

why use flex cards
when i was working i was in the 30% tax bracket
we put back $6000 last year between my wife she and i
as we were having dental and eye care and labs not covered
by insurance
we saved $1800 in taxes by using our flex accounts

whoa not fun, (un)flex accounts

forgive me father for i have sinned
i didnt brush my teeth like i should when i was growing up
i never flossed my teeth until i was an adult
i never went to the dentist unless my teeth hurt or was injured
we were too poor to afford dental care
i never drank fluoridated water as a child
i love candy

but will do better

thought of that yesterday as the dentist was i swear was standing
on the dental chair with both hands in my mouth with sweat pouring
off his forehead
he was also using these big old instruments that i couldnt see well as i
took off my glasses cause i didnt want to watch any more
just know my head was moving up and down and he was mumbling
words i cant publish in this blog or ill start getting hits from weird sites

so this is what went on last time when i was totally knocked out when
he chiselled and chipped and whatever else he did to remove my
wisdom teeth
glad i was asleep then and wish i had been yesterday

felt ok afterwards until that novacaine stuff wore off
oh **** that sure hurts
thank you vicodin and that merlot and that ice bag
that sure makes it feel much better

hope today is better
will pray each day to the dental god
and will promise to do better

do you have an (un)flex account
you know they take your money tax free and put it into their
accounts then as you need it for medical expenses not covered
by insurance you can get reimbursed
its suppose to work that way
however
they seem to try to make it hard sometimes to get your money
back

have had a several months long battle with them
they have a thousand dollars of mine they want to keep
so they wait until just before the dead line to deny my claim
so need to find a thousand dollars worth of claims to submit
wonder if they try to screw everybody this way

here is what happened
in march i had special diagnostic labs done for my genotype for
the apoe 4 gene for alzheimers
i used my (un)flex card to pay for it
as my insurance would not pay for it
the (un)flex card paid for it and was ok with the receipt i sent in

in may i had more special diagnostic labs done for beta amyloid and
tau protein
which was not covered by insurance
i used my (un)flex card again (was at the same lab as before) and
submitted the same receipt
nope not good enough
need a eob from the insurance company showing they denied payment
didnt bill insurance as they specifically say on their website they wont
pay for this test or the last one
they continuously refused to reimburse me the thousand dollars
with the final decision just a few days before the dead line

how do i come up with that amount of money in medical charges in
a few days
i was afraid the (un)flex account people had won
wonder if they waited that late to do a final denial on purpose
so they could keep my thousand dollars

well i am retired and have extra time on my hands
i started looking for deductions i could claim
there it was on their website
medical travel
you can claim mileage for medical visits to also include trips to the
pharmacy and xray
we do live in the country and have to drive 50+ miles to get our
prescriptions
thats 50 x $0.23 per mile deduction = $10.15
thats 104 x $0.23 to the dentist = $23.92
thats 412 x $0.23 to the neurologist = $94.76
(4 trips last year to the neurologist)
(we had multiple pharmacy and medical and radiological visits last year)

when all added up it was equal over $1000

so i won eventually
they even had to send me a check for $12.95 that they owed me also
those (un)flex account folks tried to win
but i won instead

now ill just take that one thousand they refused to reimburse me and
just write it off on taxes

won twice didnt i
feels good to beat them at their own game

now wonder if i can win this year
