its going to be a long day

ITS GOING TO BE A LONG DAY
A Fisher Book
summer solstice link

now if you move in the alzheimers world you may see the longest day in a different way than what we do in the summer solstice celebration in santa barbara

today is the longest day of the year
dealing with alzheimers disease in your world makes this day exceptionally long
if you have someone you know who has this disease or an acquaintance whose dealing with this in their family
then reach out to them today
they may be wore out and could use some cheering up and support

also
donate or volunteer somewhere or some place
you can go to www.alz.org and find what and how to donate and get involved

this weekend is the summer solstice celebration here in santa barbara
the parade is on saturday
there is festivities starting tomorrow through sunday

recently while watching a documentary on the history of santa barbara there was a section on how this parade got started

it almost didnt happen
since
the folks who started it were antiwar probably pro marijuana hippy type protesters
they  were allowed to do the parade ie they got a permit with the understanding it wouldnt be some antiwar vietnam protest
the organizers were mostly young adults

over the years the summer solstice and parade has grown to where it is now

i think of it as santa barbaras version of mardi gras on a smaller less raunchy scale

all of the floats are human powered
there is a lot of dancing and bright colors
its sort of an eclectic parade

there are waves of bands playing at one of the large parks for 3 days
no
theres no beads or shirt lifting going on that ive seen

we like to get down where the parade starts as its less crowded and we get to see the parade with a first look

later in august there is the fiesta parade that is probably larger and seems more formal but it is also one that we enjoy seeing
this one though the summer solstice patade seems to fit our personalities better

it may be a long day everywhere else
but
here
the days if they are longer are worth the extra light and brightness today

paradise at its best

today i will be remembering
mom dad my younger brother
on this longest day this purple day
get involved

its a long day

ITS A LONG DAY
today is the summer solstice
the week ends here in santa barbara with a
weekend long celebration

the highlight is the
funky feeling summer solstice parade down state street

we only went once a few years ago
i like the feel to it
all the dancing
the crowded streets
the funky almost mardi gras feel to it

we look forward to be in the crowd
amongst all the excitement

its the longest day of the year
its when the sun is highest above us
its definitely the mark of
summers here now

then
for those of us
in the alzheimers world
its the purple day
maybe a bit more soberness to the day

its the longest day
from the alzheimers community
to
honor all those affected by this awful disease

those numbers of us affected are starting
to exponentially increase
to a number
that will bankrupt our health care system
in many of your lifetimes

nope
i dont see the government doing anything much about it
their heads are in the sand it seems
like most crisises
they wait until it gets real bad

well
folks
its going to get bad
sooner than we realize

this is the day
the solstice day
to celebrate life
but
its also the day to celebrate
the movement
to find a cure and or treatment for this disease
that none of us want
one that many fear getting

we need your thoughts
help us
donate walk our walks contact your government reps
to provide us with more monies to fight this disease

its going to be a long day

ITS GOING TO BE A LONG DAY

today is going to be the longest day of the year
and its going to be the hottest day of the year
here where we live in central texas

its the summer solstice
wish we were in santa barbara today at the summer solstice
celebration there
its a real quirky parade thats all green in that all the floats are
ran by man or woman power only
lots of funky outfits
think mardi gras on a smaller scale
well miss it this year but mc and dc will be there enjoying it
for us

today is also the longest day fundraiser with lots of activities
throughout the us

one of my teammates from my organcigreendoctor team in
the williamson county walk to end alzheimers on september
28 2013 is in florida visiting her relatives and enjoying
the beach disney world etc

they will be walking taking turns all day until near sunset
then will all meet at i think a local bar for a final celebration
their mother jo died with alzheimers disease
and they will be honoring her
and others who have and had this devastating disease

this is going on all over the country and will be a significant
fundraiser for the alzheimers association

it will be the longest day not as much for those who have
alzheimers as much as for those caregivers many of who
do 24/7 care
those are the ones we should be thinking of today along
with those affected with the disease

i will be thinking personally about my brother joe who has
been strickened with this disease
and my mother and father who also had the disease

it will be a long day for many of us affected personally by
this disease
lets pause and take our time to think of them
since there is plenty of time in this longest day

summer soltice, chickener, lebron

SUMMER SOLSTICE
today is summer solstice
the first day of summer
the days start to get shorter starting today
thank goodness

we wish we were in santa barbara for their summer solstice celebration
they have every year
think mini mardi gras celebration
last year we were getting ready for our older sons wedding there
and got to go to the solstice parade

when we were touring the anasazi indian ruins we came upon
a anasazi calender laid out on the top of a hill
and one of the markers marked the summer solstice

the indians knew then about the solstice
our friend db has been to the site on summer solstice and has
verified that the marker is accurate with an archaeologist

lets celebrate summer solstice even if you cant be in santa
barbara today because
here come the dog days of summer in texas

CHICKENER
i am a chickener
if you are a chickener you know it
if you would like to be a chickener and live in central texas
i suggest you go to this talk on raising chickens by carol ann
from boggy creek farms this weekend at the natural gardener

here is a blog she wrote on the lecture
read it
she is a witty writer as well as an excellent organic gardener and
chickener

join the chickener movement

LEBRON
lebron jamess performance last night reminded me of michael jordans
performance that time when he was ill with high fever but still
had a fantastic game

near the end of the game lebron overcome with leg cramps went
back in the game and scored a three point shot that may have
helped seal the game for the heat

ive seen athletes with severe leg cramps
heck i get them all the time especially at night
as they are a side effect of the aricept (donepezil) that im on
i cant imagine playing basketball with one of those things
my leg feels like someone beat it with a baseball bat the
next day

he should have been drinking gatorade to stay hydrated
hope he recovers enough to play tomorrow night
as he desires this nba championship
maybe the naysayers will quit whining about him now

severe dehydration that causes muscle cramps has the possibility
to cause a rise in muscle enzymes from damaged muscles which
can overload the kidneys as they try to filter out those enzymes
the athlete can get kidney failure from this
the secret is to stay hydrated before and after games

bet he got ivs last night
good luck on recovery today
