COUNTRY N NEWS-FALL HARVEST
each fall these flame sumacs provides us with
nice bright vivid fall colors
this year they seem to really stand out here in our driveway
and also throughout the hill country along roads and
in pastures

its a great native tree that provides great fall color
blooms that bees go crazy over

seeds for birds throughout the winter
its easy to transplant

yesterday i said to my wife she
i want to start to stir fry since i had never done it before
so we had some asian greens in our garden ready to harvest
so i googled stir fry asian green
and
on epicurious i got directions on how to do it

so out to my garden i went with my knife and container
i trimmed these items from my fall garden from lft to rt
multiplying onions from my dads garden ive had them for 30 years
half an asian green
a few leaves of dinosaur or tuscan kale
a few leaves of swiss chard the plant that keeps on giving
a must have fall winter plant
then
i added a few mushrooms a few slices of squash along with
a few cuts of bell peppers
and
from my last years fall winter garden several cloves of crushed
organicgreen doctors garlic
also added were one diced poblano from this falls crop

3 tbsps of olive oil was heated to smoking
then the garlic and peppers were cooked for a minute
then
all the other ingredients were cooked
stir frying them frequently for 4 minutes
adding a sprinkling of salt and crushed pepper

then this was placed on top of brown rice
cooked with veggie broth

well a damn good supper my wife she and i had that night
mostly from our fall garden

also from this falls crop are these tomatoes that we
had wrapped after they were picked green right before the
first frost

then
this absolutely delicious mouth watering
country n pecan pie made fresh by my wife she
yes we well mostly she shelled them ourselves
as well as picked them off the ground
then
topped our slices witl good ole disease free blue bell vanilla ice cream

makes all the work to get this stuff to grow
well worth it

why do we pay more for our drugs

WHY DO WE PAY MORE FOR OUR DRUGS
thats what i was asking myself this weekend
as i was calculating how much this person was paying
a year for his drugs

one of the meals on wheels clients is on social security only
with no drug plan no government help for his meds
now this is the old guy that wouldnt believe i was a doctor
for two years
so i didnt argue with him at all

now if you are on social security only with no other source
of income
folks you are in the poor range
like millions of old folks

well at least they have medicare right
who can negotiate for you for lower drug prices
with all the millions and millions of prescriptions
that old folks take every day
what clout they must have
right
no
wrong

now medicare has done a good job of negotiating the prices of
medical care at doctors offices and hospitals
so they arent as overpriced

folks im on medicare and i look at what they pay doctors
its a fair price they pay for the services rendered
trust me on this one

if you want to know how well theyve done
just go to a doctor or hospital and get a bill for services
yep thats a big sticker shock there
a $5000 bill for a non insured person may only be $500
for a medicare persons
why
medicare has kept reimbursement costs down
they negotiate
well i dont think they negotiate
they just say
this is what we pay

why doesnt that happen to drug prices
why
a deal with the devil was made
satan won
medicare cant negotiate prices for drugs for all these
millions of poor folks on medicare only

thank you so much mr and ms congressperson

next time you meet one of our politicians
ask them why
dont let them give you any double talk crap
it doesnt matter whether they are republican or democratic
or independent
dont let them bs you
its the devil

now this old guy
on medicare only
pays $2500 a year for his drugs
i researched all his meds for him
if he bought a lower price medicare part d thats d for drug plan
he pays $29 a month premiums
his total out of pocket cost for his drugs including these premiums
would be $940 a year

he folks is just one expensive non negotiable drug prescription
away from total financial ruin
or
what most folks do is they just dont fill the prescriptions

like the arthritis cream he was given that cost $200 a month
god forbid if he were to have to be on a cancer drug or
expensive heart drug or expensive arthritis drug
he would probably like in a third world country
just die

so luckily i understand the drugs
looking at his meds
he could change one to a cheaper generic drug
another the b12 shots he takes to a oral or sublingual b12
cost savings close to $500

so this old guy
could save maybe $2000 a year on his drugs
why on why is it this way

so folks this took me a doctor a few hours to figure this out
most folks dont have access to my knowledge
so they
these poor old folks
just keep getting skewered by our countries unfair drug prices

can we not ask that question of our politicians
who are running for president
there is no excuse for this
in our country

so
i ask again
why do we pay more for our drugs than any other country

there is no just answer

now ms b gma and i went to this movie this weekend called
brooklyn
its a movie about immigrants
yes immigrants
im sure youve heard a lot about immigrants lately
if you were listening to the tv or radio

i guess from what i hear listening to some news reports
and
especially to some politicians
that immigrants are bad things

now ms b
my historian brother has done dna analysis of all
of your aunts and uncles on my side of the family
now ms b
it seems that we are all immigrants
that part of you that comes from my lineage
there is no
native american blood
its all european like northern europe england and ireland
well theres some northern africa
and
some western africa
now that western africa dna got in there im sorry to say
if the story is known was not consensual
a dark spot on our history

so ms b
i am 100% immigrant ancestry
thats right
all of me

so ms b i feel sad today
does that make me a bad person
do i have to live in camps somewhere
not wanted by anyone


in this movie
i know youll like it whenever you see it
its a love story with sadness mixed in
a live story of decisions one has to make
a chance for a better life guaranteed by a dying relative
without violence
or
too much sex stuff
well just the right amount it seems
a real feel good old time movie

i see oscar nomination for the actress in the above picture
one of my new favorite actor singer favorites
that would be with adelle nora jones amy from the voice
and my former patient abbie
that just have it that i like to see in a young female

now in this movie
its is about seeking a better life
its about the irish
yes you got irish blood
and
some about the italians
yes you got italian blood in you
you little immigrant you

the irish during the time of the movie
were the mexicans of our modern time
the irish built the northeast
the bridges tunnels buildings
yes they were discriminated against
not as much now
just like the hispanic populations are now

im sure there were a lot of send them back to where
they came from sentiment
vicious im sure

but
who would have built all that stuff in that era
it wouldnt have got done

just like now
no food no roads no houses no buildings no bridges
