its been too long

ITS BEEN TOO LONG
we have been there now for over 15+ years
we have lost 6,828+ soldiers
we have lost an unknown number of soldiers to
suicide and drug overdose
we have thousands with ptsd that we and they
will be paying for for the rest of their lives
we have spent over a trillion dollars over there

why

so
what do we have to show for it
isis for one thing
now
i supported going to afghanistan to go get ben laden
but
i didnt expect us to still be there 16 years later
with
no end in site for our involvement there

now
iraq
thats a different story
dont think we should have been there in the first place
what a mess we made when we did

so
whats the endpoint here
what are our goals
when do we stop sending all our money and our kids
our sons our daughters our nephews our nieces
our uncles our aunts our fathers our mothers
over there
for what reason
i ask

i have thought about this more recently
since a relative joined the military
since friends kids joined the military
since i reviewed our familys history in regards
to the military

some wars are understandable
for us to fight
like in ww2
but
this one i dont know
i dont want these kids injured fighting over there

now
i am not trying
to be non patriotic
or
to be some antiwar person

i stand take off my hat and usually get a tear in my eyes
when the national anthem is sung at events

we have problems here at home
we need desperately to solve
lets try solving those first
before
we solve someone elses problems
or make them worse like in iraq

so
i say
its time
its been way to long
we arent going to win
like in viet nam
finally
we pulled out
got over it
moved on

that
bill clinton didnt inhale or had sex or didnt or didnt know what
is was or
george w snorted coke and drank too much when he was younger
or
obama used drugs when he was younger or that
he supports same sex marriage
(most of us dont care about this issue its time to move on to
these other important things)
or
mitt held somebody down in high school and cut his hair or he
put his dog on the top of his car and drove cross country
(well that does bother me some)
or
what religion they are
catholic protestant agnostic unitarian episcopalian
these are what past presidents have been
it doesnt matter
if mitt is mormon or even if obama was moslem which he isnt
hes a protestant
it doesnt matter

that stuff all doesn't matter when it comes to who we pick for president

here are the things that matter
religious freedom-we have to have it to survive here in the us
economy economy economy
jobs
education
womens health issues-they are the majority you know
child health
taxing those not taxed enough
control spending reasonably not on the backs of the poor and women and
children
control military spending
its time
its time for us to get out of afghanistan
we cant afford to be there any more
lets spend that money at home where its needed badly
we cant afford to lose any more soldiers over there
watched a national geographic special on the viet nam war
sure are some similarities
think a lot of americans are tired of us being there
its time

these are the things that i wish the candidates would discuss in this election
as
these are the things that really are important and need fixed

those other things dont matter

I WAS WRONG
when you do a blog its written posted and its there for
everyone to see
forever

last year in april i wrote that i thought the spurs were getting too
old and injured and that the spurs as we knew them were done
for the future

well i was wrong
here they are
all rested all injury free
the old guys are mixed in with a lot of younger guys who let
the old guys like duncan stay fresh legged

they are the turtles of the nba
they just keep plodding along with no one really paying attention
to them
the turtles will be up against the hares
sometimes the turtles win

yep i was wrong
spurs vs okla city is a possibility
definitely turtles vs the hares

TEN YEARS
its been a long ten years
my opinion was that we should never have been there in the
first place but should have focused all our attention on ben laden
and the taliban in afghanistan and got the job done there and then got
out of there
the afghanistan people through out history always win
theyll wait out whoever is invading them the taliban, russians, us etc
and eventually will win

the debate as to whether we should have ever gone into iraq will be
settled one day by the historians
i think history will show that we should not have gone there

but we committed ourselves so i think most americans supported the
troops once they got there though and most will be glad when we
are all gone from there

now we can focus out attention to afghanistan and our military
efforts back to where we should have been to get this job done

what a cost in american lives and cost to our economy these wars

we have several relatives and i have several friends and have several
former patients who have made this tour
i know that their families will be glad to have their kids back home

welcome home to all the troops
now maybe you can use your energies and knowledge to help fix
our economy
you may be our hope for the future
the get it done generation
