happy anniversary

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
tomorrow august 7 is a significant day
its the anniversary of my parents now deceased
its mr hudsons birthday tomorrow
he will be 1 year old
then
tomorrow will be the 9th anniversary of this blog

it started one day when i came in from my garden to cool off
there was a pbs show on this lady that started a blog because she was depressed
the blog eventually became a successful one for her
in fact she makes a 6 figure salary
her husband is her highest paid employee

i told my wife she
i can do that

below is a copy of my first blog

8-7-2010

well
my focus changed later that year
i was diagnosed with mci due to alzheimers disease
i had to discontinue work due to that diagnosis
i added alzheimers disease and my story to my blog topics

as of today
i have written 2231 blogs
i have had 849,973 pageviews of my blog

my life has changed in 9 years
my younger brother died from alzheimers
my two sons got married
i got a new granddaughter ms b
i got a new grandson mr h
he was recently on national tv and in most national newspapers and outlets as the face of chronic kidney disease
this exposure for him have resulted in several people wanting to be his kidney donor
my wife she retired
we sold our country n and moved only what we could stuff into two cars
it really changes your focus on things when  you unload all your stuff like this
we moved from 10 acres in the hill country near austin with a 3000 sq ft house and a 1200 sq ft barn and a 1000 sq ft garden
to
a 1000 sq ft one bedroom condo with a garage
it sure refocuses you

i have done a lot of volunteering in 9 years
habitat for humanity
alzheimers association
alzheimers texas
alzheimers los angeles
school gardens
meals on wheels
community gardens

ive done a lot of talks on alzheimers in the austin area and in the central california area
my favorite presentations are just q and a sessions where those in the audience ask the questions they really want answered

in those 9 years my memory has improved
my last lengthy memory testing session showed no evidence that i could tell of memory loss

just yesterday
my wife she and i spent almost 2 hours in the swimming pool with ms b and her friend and mr h all playing and enjoying the pool and our nice weather

we are quite content with our life here

i am quite content with my blog
i have had opportunities to monetize it and expand it over the last 9 years
i have chosen not to do so
since
i like doing the blog just because i like doing it
and
i know its good for me to be doing this writing every day
plus
i do reach a lot of people with information on alzheimers disease that i think have helped some of them get a diagnosis and maybe help them deal with the diagnosis in their families and friend

each friday i try to write on something on alzheimers news
each wednesday i am redoing all my alzheimers postings ive done as my version of a book on my story with each week being a short chapter
each week i try to write about gardening using my community garden plot and school garden as the source of the blog
each week i add topics as they pop into my head
sometimes its the spontaneous ones that are the most popular

my most popular blogs are the ones that i have written each december on the anniversary of my diagnosis as i revisit that each year sort of as an update on my status that year

yes
i hope when i write about this anniversary next year
that i will be as positive as i am now

i hope to be in a new alzheimers treatment study next year
mr hudson should have his new kidney by this time next year
a change in his life for the better

so
yes
im looking forward to writing this blog as i am now
and
enjoying our life here
