early mild cognitive impairment(mci) amnestic type on december 21, 2010
this is a precursor to alzheimers disease
because of this diagnosis i have opted to stop practicing medicine
this blog will be about my journey with this disease

solar power, rainwater collection, and healthy living

alzheimers news-alzheimers new years resolutions

people fear these two diseases
alzheimers disease

if you fear alzheimers disease in your future
do these new years resolutions
just might slow down and maybe prevent the disease

i recently read an article linked here about these resolutions

here is what i learned some well all of them im doing
so i resolve to continue doing them all this year

you can slow down mental decline by doing these healthy things

if you smoke or vape then stop
smoking damages the lungs and damages the blood supply to the brain

if you drink too much then decrease your intake or stop all together
excessive drinking can lead to dementia

if you dont exercise start today
get out and move
walk bike swim run garden dance be active
exercise gets more blood and oxygen and nutrition to the brain
youll feel better doing it

if you dont eat right do the mediterranean or mind diets
if you like it its probably on the diet just do it in moderation

if you have a mental illness like depression or anxiety get it treated

if you have sleep issues like insomnia or sleep apnea get them treated
you need around 8 hours of sleep a night
for those with sleep apnea its impressive to see how low the oxygen level can get in those with this
these low levels kill off brain cells

if you arent challenging your brain do so
volunteer work write socialize read to keep the brain busy

if you cant hear or see good get it checked out
as you age this can isolate you and limit what you can do

if your numbers are wrong fix them
control your blood pressure control your diabetes control your cholesterol control your weight
get those 10,000 steps a day and eat right

these are my new years resolutions
ok so im doing them anyway
but i plan to continue doing them

if you see dementia in your future
now is the time to do something to slow it down

remember a treatment and or cure is coming so you will want to be doing everything thats right for your brain when it gets here
