garden news-more produce and garden work

mr hudson update
he ran fever tuesday night real high and doesnt feel good
during the day his fever is lower but still present
as i write this i am awaiting a report from last night

they have done a extensive evaluation for his fever but so far no source has been found
cultures have been negative so far
he has had a lot of diagnostic testing also

his kidney function has remained normal though
he does have high blood pressure but that wasnt unexpected
he is on the same blood pressure medication he was on before to control that

they are gradually removing all the lines and tubes from him to see if they are the source of the fever
he did feel slightly better yesterday

each day when i go to the garden to volunteer i start out in my garden first
a well known organic gardener use to say its important to put your shadow in the garden every day
especially in the growing season
this allows me to keep up with my harvesting and to identify any diseases and pests that might show up
things like squash can get huge in just a few days which i found out last week after missing 2 days without checking on the squash
what was growing was a big zucchini squash that could feed a large family
i donated it to the garden and it will end up at a food kitchen or shelter

above is the harvest from early this week
a picked several green tomatoes off my sisterinlaw tomato since the off the mountain winds had blown down that vine for the third time
i decided after my third attempt this summer to restake it that it was coming out of the ground for sure
we will let them self ripen by wrapping them in newspapers for several days until they get nice and red and real juicy
they will taste almost vine ripened
the sungold cherry tomatoes are coming in heavy so i have to pick them almost every day
ms b loves them as does mr hudson and my wife she
also my early girls and celebrities are starting to come in also
my heirlooms cherokee purple and black krim are huge and will soon ripen
i cant wait
these tomatoes are what pays for my garden

early this week i made a pot of beans called billie beans or mayocoba or peruvan beans
above is a picture of the row of them i have planted
i leave them on the plants until the beans dry up then pick them and shell them to store as dried beans
these are our favorite beans

we call them billie beans since my motherinlaw use to send them to us in the mail as she would get a large supply of them at a local mexican food market

now when i cook them i try to add veggies from the garden
this time i added a container of chicken bone broth from the organic soup kitchen
i then added some curly kale and russian kale and malabar spinach and amaryth and swiss chard and celery all from my garden
thus increasing my nutrition in my beans

each week i get enough soups from the organic soup kitchen here locally for my noon meals
that add all these veggies and herbs and coconut oil and olive oil and other nutritions to their soups
ie im trying to duplicate what they do with their soups

so in that picture are green beans tatume squash zucchini squash red tomatoes and green tomatoes malabar spinach russian kale culy kale swiss chard amyaryth shashita peppers sweet banana peppers basil and celery

thats why i go to the garden is for this produce and of course for my sanity
