alzheimers news-these two classes of medications may help

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-THESE TWO CLASSES OF MEDICATIONS MAY HELP
Image result for organicgreendoctor
if i had been a nonmedical person when i read this article from usc i would have ran over to my medicine cabinet to see if i was on these drugs

since i am a retired medical person i knew that i was on both classes of these cardiovascular medications that may reduce dementia risk
the one medicine i was on that wasnt in the study is a sibling to the two they used

the saying
whats good for the heart is good for the brain
well
it applies to this study

its seems taking a statin for hyperlipidemia may help
a statin is a type of cholesterol medication that lowers the cholesterol in the body
by doing so it can slow down the progression of artery blockage
to the heart
and
to the brain
which reduces the incidence of heart disease and stroke

it seems that taking one of these for your hypertension may help
an ace inhibitor or an arb angiotensin receptor blocker blood pressure medicines are two classes of drugs that work via the kidney to control ones high blood pressure
by doing so it decreases the incidence of heart attack and stroke and kidney failure
it use to be that high blood pressure was the major cause of folks dying from heart disease
not any more

the names of ace inhibitors would be lisinopril or zesteril and enalapril or vasotec and benazepril or lotensin etal
names of arbs would be irbesartan or avapro and valsartan or diovan and losartan or cozaar etal
i take valsartan

the statins we know are lovastatin or mevaclor and simvastatin or zocor and pravastatin or pravachol and atorvastatin or lipitor and rosuvastatin or crestor
the ones used in this study were lovastatin and rosuvastatin
my guess is it doesnt matter which you use they all work similar and its effect on dementia would be about the same
i take atorvastatin

i have been on an arb blood pressure medicine and a statin now for over 10 years

when they looked at folks who took that combination they have found that it seemed to decrease the risk of dementia by 20%

so
think about this when you are offered blood pressure medicine and or a statin
you are probably saving yourself from a stroke or a heart attack and maybe just maybe
alzheimers disease

so
i think ill just keep taking mine
