mr hudson update and alzheimers news-aducanumab in the news

MR HUDSON UPDATE AND ALZHEIMERS NEWS-ADUCANUMAB IN THE NEWS
Image result for organicgreendoctor
mr hudson continues to progress in his recovery
his new kidney is still working normally
he had his central line removed and a picc line put in so he could get ivs if needed and have his labs drawn from the line
he was able to sit up in mom and dads arms yesterday
he looks good and his surgical area looks good also
of course he is still cute
he should be moved probably from the ped icu over the weekend
we will find out later this morning

my drug aducanumab was in the news again
aducanumab is an antibody given iv that attacks amyloid in the brain
amyloid accumulates in the brains of patients with alzheimers
when given it removes amyloid from the brain
the hope is that by doing that it will slow down the progression of alzheimers disease

i was in the biogen aducanumab study for 25 months first at ut southwestern in dallas then later at ucla
i as it turned out got 18 doses of placebo and 7 doses of the real drug
then the study was halted and reevaluated

when looking at all the data collected in the study those who got around 12 months of aducanumab higher dose had most of the measurable amyloid seen on amyvid pet scans removed
also the tau protein seen in the brain was decreased
tau proteins unravel in the nerve cells and get deposited as tangles in the brain
this usually starts after amyloid accumulates

there was also less decline in memory and in activities of daily living in those who got the higher dose of aducanumab

the study was to be restarted this spring but the covid 19 stopped it for awhile
i was suppose to restart in may but for now that has been postponed

biogen announced this week that they are filing with the fda for expedited approval for use in treating alzheimers patients
the fda has 60 days to allow the filing
if its oked the biogen folks will proceed with seeking the final approval
then
if it is approved it will become available for use for alzheimers disease especially in patients with mild cognitive impairment due to alzheimers and early alzheimers
if approved i would qualify and would probably start taking it as regular probably monthly infusions
these infusions would be given long term

i am hoping that the study will restart at ucla and i can start receiving these infusions early before it gets approved by being in the biogen aducanumab study when it is reactivated

another set of good news this week for us
