garden news-getting that morning boost

GARDEN NEWS-GETTING THAT MORNING BOOST

our garden manager bh took this photo this week and sent it to me
the purple things are the berries on a red malabar spinach
at the end of the season when it starts to get cooler the malabar starts shutting down
the leaves get thicker and smaller and discolored like the leaves on a fall tree

the berries have a juicy insides
i read where you can use it to dye stuff
its almost a darker lavender color when used

i get asked a lot can you eat the berries
i know birds like to hang on the vine and eat them

the berries eventually will dry up and fall to the ground
this vine will produce a ton of small vines next spring
we pull them and eat the fresh leaves as the vine grows
we also repot the new plants for our spring plant sale

i did read this year that you can eat the seeds
i dont plan to eat them
ill leave that to the birds

this plant the red malabar and the green malabar has produced bags and bags of spinach leaves for donations
small leaves work well in salads with other greens
larger leaves work well in casseroles stews soups etc
the larger leaves tend to have more fluid in them

we plan to plant another row next year for donations

i read this article recently linked here
after reading it i realized that i was doing this but didnt realize why

i also watched this video below on the optimal morning routine
now i understand why this all feels good

each morning the sun rises and peaks over the condos across our courtyard
then
there is this almost sudden rush of sunlight into our condo windows
i commonly will stand in front of the window and feel the warmth from the sun
i feel the sunlight brighten up the room
i always feel energized after standing there with my eyes closed and my arms stretched out
like i was welcoming an alien spaceship from above
then
i get dressed in my gardening gear
and
head to my garden
there i am usually by myself
its quiet except for traffic on the nearby road
but
the chickens greet me with excitement
they just want their chicken scratch
the birds start chirping like they have been waiting for me to get there

as the sun rises higher in the sky
it hits the distant mountains
if its a good day there are willowy tufts of clouds around the mountains
then
the sun on the mountains runs down the mountains
until
it hits me in the garden
my second jolt of sunlight for the day
i feel like a turtle or lizard thats sunning in the sun
it sort of energizes me

that hour from the time the sun hits me in the condo to when the sun hits me in the garden
is
almost like taking a shot of expresso
i feel the best i usually feel all day
apparently this causes a release of dopamine and a boost of cortisol

after i read the article and watched the video below now i understand

an aside here
dear my wife she
watch all the video

so
i get that morning boost
its my way to get high

i must say its addictive

the video explains why i feel that way
why i feel like i have to go to the garden everyday

can you say dopamine adrenaline cortisol testosterone melatonin boost and other body chemicals

i guess i am a garden addict
