those blood sucking mosquitoes

THOSE BLOOD SUCKING MOSQUITOES

since we have lived in santa barbara i dont think i have seen a mosquito here
now im not complaining
i sure dont miss them at all
i guess we dont have them much since we dont get rain from march until maybe october
so there is no standing water anywhere

when we lived at the country n we had to be vigilant to keep them under control
in my little ponds and water troughs i put either gold fish or got minnows from the river
they would keep the mosquito larva under control
we also added mosquito dunks in any standing water like the ponds as double protection
the mosquito dunks had a bacteria bt that kills the mosquito larva

we kept our drain pots for our plants on our patio and in the yard turned upside down so there would be no standing water

our rainwater tanks were closed or had a screen over any opening

if you let water accumulate anywhere those mosquitoes would find it and lay their eggs

now they loved my wife she and they would eat her alive
but for me they rarely went after me

so at certain times of the year in the late evenings we would stay inside

now mosquitoes carry diseases like malaria not much a problem in the us west nile virus zika several other types of encephalitis yellow fever and dengue fever

there are stories on how big those mosquitoes can be in arkansas texas and lousiana
it takes a shotgun with bird shot to shoot them out of the air

recently
ill link the article here
there were stories especially in louisiana where there was so much rain and flooding that the mosquitoes were forced out of the swamps and the rivers
where they attacked humans wild animals and farm animals

there were so many mosquitoes that attacked the animals that they sucked a lot of the blood out of them
some animals got wore out swatting at the mosquitoes all day long
leaving some farmers and ranchers with dead cows and horses

the deer were also found weakened and may were found dead

so far ive not seen a story where a human got drained of their blood
but
i cant tell you from experience from getting bitten by gobs of mosquitoes at one time so that when you swat them you are left with a big smear of your blood on your skin
it wouldnt take many of those big suckers i bet to make you anemic

pity lousiana since they are getting more rain with hurricane sally and i bet the blood sucking mosquitoes will only get worse

lets see which is worse

wildfires
or
blood sucking mosquitoes

i guess it would be wildfires since humans have lost their lives and their homes and businesses and whole towns along with lost animals
