alzheimers news-he left his heart in san francisco

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-HE LEFT HIS HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO

thats the iconic song that tony bennett is known for
now he will be known for something else
joining the ranks of these other celebrities who either have alzheimers or died from alzheimers

tony bennett
glenn campbell
pery como
tony dorsey
norman rockwell
ronald reagan
barry goldwater
rosa parks
margaret thatcher
gordie howe
sugar ray robinson
pat summitt
charles bronson
rita hayworth
charleston heston
burgess meredith
oto preminger
and
the list goes on and on

recently tony bennetts name was added to this list
many of us saw him on those specials on tv in the last few years making his comeback
we saw him sing songs with lady gaga

this article linked here  titled tony bennets battle with alzhiemer tells of he and lady gaga making their album together in 2011 then other albums later
he had alzheimers disease then
it has progressed a lot since then
but
he still sings and rehearses
his neurologist recommends it

many of you have seen the video of the elderly gentleman with alzheimers who is wheelchair bond and is mostly uncommunicative who when music he used to love is played on his earphones he becomes wide eyed and smiles and you can tell he has come alive

music does that
it activates so many parts of the brain that have been isolated by the disease
that's why
tony bennnetts neurologist recommends he continue his music

those of us who saw glenn campbells documentary of him performing as his alzheimers disease progressed could see the difference singing and playing music made on glenn campbell

recently i was sitting and holding mr n my six month old grandson
there was music playing in the background at their house
which is frequently on there
i was thinking i wonder what effect that has on his developing brain
it has to be a good thing

so it is when our brain gets older
listening to our favorite music can be a good thing

so tony bennett left his heart in san francisco
but
sadly his brain is slowly fading being gradually muffled
until
it will all be left somewhere else gone destroyed forever

so that what it is and what it does this alzheimers

maybe we all should be listening to music and singing the words out loud
