my story revisited #77-i am not done yet

MY STORY REVISITED #77-I AM NOT DONE YET

as i read this old blog below this morning i thought about all the alzheimers walks that my wife she and i have done over the last 10 years
our team the organicgreendoctor has rasied over $50,000 and donated it to the alzheimers cause
many of you have donated money to our team
thanks fo the support

this money has been used for alzheimers research alzheimers education caregiver support and for lobbying politicians to support alzheimers research and education

its money well spent
all of our donations we make personally are donated to the honor of

my mother who died from alzheimers

my younger brother who died from alzheimers

my father who may have had it

myself well my wife she always adds this one to the list

some years we would do 5 alzheimers walks a year
one we would do in little rock at the walk to end alzheimers there
we would walk on my younger brothers familys team with the family
this one i did more crying at than the others

many of the walks in central texas i was asked to speak a few minutes before the walks started
yes
every dang time
when i would get to talking about my mother and my younger brother having alzheimers and my having mci due to alzheimers i would always tear up and have to pause
looking out in the audience i could see a lot of folks tearing up and wiping their eyes
luckily i was always able to carry on

my first alzheimers walk here in santa barbara i was asked to speak as the representative of the group who has been diagnosed
my granddaughter ms b who was 3 at the time was in the audience
as i started talking she yelled out
granddaddy
i lost it right there but eventually recovered enough to finish

i do this since my story and how i am doing gives many of those in the audience
hope

they need hope

__________

DONE
we are done with our walks to end alzheimers
combining the three walks our team did we had
successful walks
we had a close to 50 people walk with our teams

i especially enjoyed talking to participants and listening
to their stories
many were tearful ones

this one family had family members who had the disease and
walked in the temple bell county walk every year
they raised more money than any other group

this last year one of the relatives made a quilt of the walk
tshirts for the last few years
now im not a quilt expert like dr bates from the suture for a living
blog or my rainwater brothers wife or my older brothers wife
but the quality of workmanship on this seemed
to be a top notch job

then when you talk to the family and listen to their story
it makes the quilt look even better
__________
please support your local alzheimers walks
most of the strides in alzheimers have occurred because of the funding from these walks
and the push the alzheimers organizations have provided to advance the alzhiemers cause

this last year during this covid 19 pandemic a lot of alzheimers patients died way too early from covid 19
lets not forget their battle with this fatal alzheimers disease
