garden news-george in the banana grove

GARDEN NEWS-GEORGE IN THE BANANA GROVE

if you look real close in this picture or if you enlarge it you will see sitting on the limb covered up partially by the leaves a monkey sitting on the limb sort of waving at you
that monkey has  a name
its george

in our garden on one side in our orchard we have a grove of bananas
my guess is there are around 20-30 banana trees
all at different stages of growth

also hanging from the banana trees are these bunches of bananas usually at different stages of growth
each bunch has about 20-30 bananas in them
they grow hanging down low to the ground or real high up in the banana grove trees

each bunch will have this large purplish bananas flower hanging from the bottom of the bunch
when i say large flower i mean large

kids when they tour and see the banana flowers are amazed at their size and love to pick up the banana flower leaves and if possible to smell the banana flower on a low hanging bunch

almost all the kids like to go through the banana grove
its on the side of a hill
there is a trail at the base of the hill that goes through the area
there is a 16 step stairs at the end to climb to get back to the level of the garden
if the kids are lucky there will be a bunch of bananas hanging down from a banana tree so they can touch and if lucky pick a ripe banana

these as i say and many who taste them say these are the best bananas we have ever tasted

before the covid pandemic we use to have classes of 10-20 kids come through the garden for educational classes

the end of the class involved walking through the banana grove
of course
by then they are pretty rowdy those k-3 kids
so
since commonly i was the one that toured them through the banana grove
so
i came up with this story for the kids
i would say
now you need to stay on the path and be real quiet since the last group said they saw a monkey in the banana trees
so
i would distract them by having them look up at the bananas high in the trees
then
i would lean over and shake an easily shaking banana tree
i will admit it sounded like a monkey had just jumped from one tree to the next

the kids got real quiet and remained quite attentive the rest of the tour

it was the squirrel squirrel technique if you know what i mean

so
when ms b and mr hudson come to the garden they always want to go to the big pepper tree at the edge of the orchard then walk through the banana grove

ok so i did hint there might be a monkey in the grove

they loved it
then
my wife she found a monkey at the thrift shop
the next thing i know its way up in a banana tree

they loved the monkey we named george
however
either the high high winds blew george from the tree
or
i forgot to take in account the trees were growing on a side of the hill
so
if you hiked down the hill you could if you were tall reach up an grab george
so
he disappeared

then
my wife she again found georges brother at a thrift store
when i wasnt looking george climbed up that tree and sat down on the limb
waiting to wave at those kids as they passed by
now safely wired into place 12 foot off the ground

now
i cant wait for ms b and mr hudson and mr n to see him up there awaiving at them
and
i cant wait for other kids to enjoy him also

i just hope he doesnt eat all our bananas
